Oh wow, I played this as a kid. I forgot the name of it and I kept on trying to remember it every once in a while. All I remembered was the first level being a snow slide thingy and the transformation into the big buff guy. It was not enough to find it for the last few years. That was unexpected. Thank you for that. One of the games from my childhood was found.

I'm a big Tonic Trouble fan, but I'd say this was a fair recap. Props for going through it twice! A couple of anecdotes: * This N64 version is near identical to the Windows version that was sold in stores in 1999, but there was a 1997 promotional version for the PC, which had continous enviroments instead of the challenge rooms seen here. Appearently most of that work had to be scrapped due to hardware limitations of the time. The final product was clearly rushed as a result. * The popcorn machines, depending on region and console could also be seen draped in Nestle Crunch and Lion branding. The 1997 version had a unbranded Elvis/Johnny Bravo lookin mascot. None of the versions explain why popcorn/chocolate works like spinach in this world. * For the four head puzzle in the pyramid, the correct order was inscribed in the ceiling. Most people I've seen play this have missed that. The 1997 version mercifully made it a game of Simon. Good luck on your venture. You'll need it!

@roostergamerbubsy3d
@roostergamerbubsy3d Год назад
@@anthonylombardo1261 there were 3D platformers before Super Mario 64. For example, Bug! for Sega Saturn (1995), Jumping Flash, Alpha Waves for MS-DOS (1990), etc. Even the concept of an open-space 3D platformer wasn't original to Super Mario 64. For example, Bubsy 3D for PS1 (an incredibly underrated and fantastic platformer btw, unlike what critics say), although it got released after SM64, was in development before Mario.

Just found your series. Keep it on youtube. Views are good now but I promise you, over the years these videos will just rack up the views, you edited them wonderfully and you show enough of the game while not being overly long/boring. Long videos for bigger games are great. Short videos for racing/sports games are perfect. I had an N64 growing up, and although i would come to regret not getting a Playstation like my best friend, at least between the two of us we had both systems and it generated a lot of fun for us.

I like that you're honest about how much you enjoy what you're playing. With a few QoL improvements this seems like it wouldn't be such a bad game. 3D platformers have so many inherently annoying aspects to them, not least of all the actual platforming, camera management, etc. I love this era of gaming where production values were a bit hit and miss and developers were open to experimenting with weird advertising tie-ins.

Probably Tonic Trouble was more famous in Europe than in US, specially BEFORE its launch. I remember MANY previews about Tonic Trouble and its presence in articles of game expos, during years, in European game magazines (general or Nintendo specific). When finally appeared... the rates were a kind of disappointment: Not near to Banjo Kazooie or the soon to be released Rayman 2. Starshot: Space Circus Fever (another french company game) was ANOTHER case similar to Tonic Trouble: Very hyped 3D platform during years/months in the european magazines... but the final product was also another "disappointment". I suppose you'll discover sooner or later. Was that era when everyone wanted to do the next "Super Mario 64". Impressive your dedication to beat all the games for the system, by the way.
