I saw Beatlemania on Broadway, and I thought it was fantastic; and I am a drummer/singer/performer. Keep in mind that we are watching them on TV here with close ups, where you can tell that it is not the actual thing (except for Mitch who really did resemble Paul). When you were in the audience at the theatre, you just heard them (and other multi media clips, etc), but didn't really see their faces up close. Being in the audience watching this live from a distance, you could really appreciate and feel the magic and energy. Believe me, they were tremendous!
@@WaitintheWings haha thx makes sense to share with people on here! I was not even alive when the show happened hahaha but I've seen quite a few Beatle tribute bands. Two OG Beatlemania members (Tony Kishman & Tom Teely) I did see in the show "Classical Mystery Tour"; they still got it!
This was before i joined the original cast on September 9th, 1978 (Check out Mitch & Cast to the right) I was at the Winter Garden yesterday. Now it's "Back to the Future". I would have gone in but it wasn't the Movie!
I was in high school in California then and I had the whole song lineup for the show on a cassette but with the original recordings. I wrote to the producers about possibly getting an audition and for the life of me I can’t remember the response (I did get one with Beatlemania letterhead). They had several casts over the couple years they did this (which I’m sure most people know); Marshall Crenshaw did the John Lennon part when I saw them in either San Francisco (I am pretty sure at the Orpheum) or the show I saw at the Concord Pavilion (my god Crenshaw is 70 now). Anyway I had learned the guitar parts for playing George well and I could sing his nasal-delivery songs, and definitely at least as well as the guys playing it in these shows, but it wasn’t realistic that I’d be able to actually do this at the time- I couldn't just leave school, I guess I assumed it would run a lot longer until Apple Corps. lawsuit effectively shut them down. But from the many stories I read of the participants, sounded like a lot of them didn’t actually do a lot of prep and were accepted. Lower standards back then, and Beatle tributes in the years since are far more exacting. Weissman got away with a right handed “Paul” back then but no tribute worth their salt would try that today. And the soundtrack to the show was pretty awful. Yes I owned it. 😂
They kept everybody in the dark about what this was all about. not even the cast knew. they didnt wwant work getting out about the show. and it worked, it just opened, out of the blue. it killed nation wide. i say it 4 times, twice at the blackstone in chicago and then there was a touring version that i saw . i really dont know why this show isnt at vegas, it was for a while.
ese paul es identico, demas podria tocar con los verdaderos beatles y yo no me daria cuenta es genial el parecido...hasta la voz si perfeccionara el acento de liverpool queda perfecto.
James Glaser no... actually he was left handed but growing up was trained by society to do things right handed. Including bass... eventually he did learn to do some stuff on bass as a lefty. (After beagle mania)
