Regulars will by now know that I can't answer all the comments, but always read them...so keep 'em coming! :) If you liked my offering..please THUMB UP - leave some kind feedback, and if you're new here and like what you've seen - please SUBSCRIBE (it's absolutely free of charge!) ..to be notified of new uploads!...and please SHARE my videos with family & friends who you think might enjoy such offerings. This will help me and help my channel to grow! I appreciate your support! Also new - many have suggested that I open a funding account, I have always been reluctant to do so; as I didn't want to be thought as an 'e-beggar' ...but as RU-vid's censorship controls are starting to affect channels with horror content like mine...therefore the revenue is cut off! ...and because I'd like to devote more time to these videos....donations are welcomed :) (link at the end of video or under description) There’s more! - I've been considering organising give-aways, where some lucky viewer gets a curious object from my travels & explorations. I would love suggestions on how the give-way should be run...maybe like a competition; but I want it to be fair for both newcomers & regulars. Would love to hear your ideas!
ObsoleteOddity I just thought I would let you know.... I love your stories. The ones that are narrated I can listen to them at work. I'm a housekeeper so it works out pretty good for me. then I go back and watch them later. IF I could listen to them for a full 8hrs I would. The only reason I can't is cuz I don't think you have THAT many stories. I wouldn't be sad if you had a million stories!!!
ObsoleteOddity I was the first person to ask you to do the voice overs of the old silent ones and I am so glad you decided to do them. I am asking to please keep the text slide as well because I am also hard of hearing and I have the words to back up to make sure I heard it correctly. I have to used closed captioning on my TV. I think the two together are a great combo! Keep up the amazing work. I am a historian if you would like to collaborate on anything please let me know!
Just a thought on the giveaways, since you do urban exploring as well as the historical features, so wouldn't something like a little treasure hunt be fun ? You could choose a list of objects and/or items for participants to look for, scattered throughout your videos. Participants can take screenshots of the listed items and post them on your facebook page and you would pick the winner from a list of correct entries using a Random Number Generator ? Just an idea ! Cannot wait to see what you come up with !!
That's actually a very good suggestion Tiffany! I like the idea of hiding something in my video to viewers to find. But any suggestions on how the random number generator would work? How would I know who's who? :)
I'd say that when participants enter you can just number them as they come in and then go to a RNG website, input the number of entries and click generate, and the number generated is the winner !
The text slides are necessary for people like me, with hearing loss. I was surprised and pleased, however, to hear that you are, as I thought, Australian, but with considerable English influence in your speech. As always, superlative video!
BEFORE I could watch this presentation I was asked by RU-vid if I was offended by it...I selected the NO box. I was asked Why? I selected the INFORMATIVE & ENTERTAINING boxes. I truly enjoy your work, keep up the good work!
I find both the modulation of your voice, and your accent very soothing! The fact that you're obviously well educated and not at all dramatic makes me very happy. No screaming, nothing for attention seeking, and proper English. So very rare, anymore. Thank you :-)
I hope I'm not the only one who finds it hilarious that back then "Dick the Dandy Killer" was a badass nickname 😂 Once again great job! I love these forgotten pieces of history being brought back to life, sad as they may be.
If duels were still legal soy boys would be challenged all day. I mean they would cowardly nit accept the duel and be 'posted' everywhere. Kind of like now as memes
I absolutely love your voice! And I do vote to keep the slides with text. I struggle to hear every word pronounced because I am hard of hearing. Thanks for redoing these, because your voice is so magical over the videos!!!
Please keep the text slides. I am one of the hearing impaired (not deaf) subscribers, and while I love your accent (very Karloff), I do appreciate the text. The stories are fascinating. Thanks.
Karen Appleby Karloff was from India and spent a lot of his time in England, living there from late childhood. I don't hear Karloff in this voice but that's just my opinion.
Loved the story! I was in a local theater production of Annie... as Miss Hannigan...I was awesome... there is a song in the show referring to Beau Brummell... just a sweet memory of the show... 😐
Hi! I would have guessed you were English! Perhaps from your parents influence your accent leans on the English side! I really enjoy your odd stories very much! I love the way you narrate! I think you should keep the text with the stories. Be careful not to block the old pictures thiugh.
As far as negative comments about these videos, My parents taught me "if you don't have something nice to say, keep your trap shut!"! 😆 I myself love every thing about these videos! I only found them a few days ago and I am completely addicted! I have always been very interested in old stories, old crimes, old things, and even elder folks! These are a perfect mix of many of my favorite things! Absolutely awesome! Thank you for your time and efforts! I vote you don't change a thing! Everyone should be able to enjoy your stories!
Thank you so much for reaching out with your lovely message. I'm very touched that my videos have had such a positive effect on you. Such wonderful feedback makes the time and effort well worthwhile. Bless you for that Best regards Oddie
@@ObsoleteOddity Very sweet reply! I had just heard you say at the close of an earlier video that you were having difficulty responding to so many of your fans comments... Understandably so! So thank you for taking the time! 😊 I am so looking forward to watching much more in the future!
I eat this stuff up!! History, with a little "naughtiness" conveyed in that powerful voice...oh, I'm IN! I don't know why I haven't found you before but better late than never. Thank You so much.
Dear Oddie. You are a fantastic Narrator, and a greater storyteller. I, like so many whom have found their way onto your channel, have been delighted by your videos! You have found a very artistic way to bring these intriguing and peculiar histories to light. I imagine you sifting through stacks of old newspaper, dusty books, and forgotten microfiche in some somber basement library. I can’t help but be a little envious, though I imagine that all of this takes a ridiculous amount of time to do, I am grateful to you for bringing this to RU-vid. After finding your channel, I have shared it with my own preteen daughter, whom like her mother, enjoys tales such as these, and I am glad that she has taken as much delight in this as I. What is better, is that I get to tell her that many of these stories are true. We have unofficially made this our bonding time together, watching your videos and giggling together. Thank you, thank you, thank you, so much for all that you do! I and my family shall continue to watched your new, and older videos for a long time to come!
What wonderful feedback - thank you so much! I can't reply to all the fabulous comments from my viewers..but from time to time, some catch my eye (& heart) I really like that my videos can help with the bonding with your daughter. That's so sweet :) Well I do have a lot of old books and my study is cluttered with old paintings, antique photos & curiosities, cool vintage items, etc....and sometimes if I spend too long here; our cat & dog wander in to let me know "enough" :)) ...I'm sure my wife sends them in, lol
Is there a book of Ollie Oddities? If so can you please tell me where I can purchase, and if it on disc that would be even better, I love your voice. Please let us know. Thanks.
I love your blog and applaud you. I want to be able to get CDS of your stories, I love stories like the ones that you present. I love your voice. Please do not stop.
i enjoy hearing the text read aloud. Also enjoy reading along. I vote for this format. As an older listener, I apologize for whomever is being rude to you. I would think they should know better. I am 66
Thanks for your kind feedback Shirley. Actually most of the older viewers are extremely kind & polite (like yourself) ...there's just a few bad apples, it's not a problem though :) I appreciate your lovely support & positive comment!
This is AWESOME! I've never seen anyone do a historical feature on Beau. I've been fascinated with him for over 20 years! MUCH appreciated! Learned a few new things.😊 Edit: New subscriber here and I can't get enough of your videos!! FABULOUS!
I don't know why but your voice is very soothing :)Especially when you act out the voices. You could be one of those narrators for audio books. I agree with the other comments saying to keep the text for the hearing impaired. Anyway keep up the good work!
I love hearing your old stories narrated. It is like hearing the story for the first time, again. I have always enjoyed your videos, and I appreciate that you left the words on the slide long enough to read and appreciate each story, like reading a good novel. (I could also pause the slide when needed!) Hearing your narration now adds to my enjoyment of each story, and I appreciate new details that I may have missed the first time around. I still go back and re-view older videos again, and never lose the appreciation and enjoyment that I felt when I first discovered your channel. I sincerely appreciate what you do. 💐 ( I think it is obvious that I would prefer that you keep the text slides as you narrate. I am able to watch and enjoy your videos as I hold my grand babies to sleep!)
ObsoleteOddity Thank you for what you do. You present stories of interest, and, may I add, present them with style and class. Your subscribers are pretty awesome, too! I have had several interesting conversations with your fans, one of whom introduced me to the wonderful movie "Grand Budapest Hotel," for which I am eternally grateful! Please keep doing what you do. I have introduced my oldest grandson to your channel, and we have cuddle time and listen to your stories, and have discussions that leave me in awe at the amount of insight, compassion and comprehension exhibited by this amazing young human. We look forward to every new video that you post. 💐
@@scruffy281 unfortunately that is true. We are given the choices to chose our own paths. How unfortunate that few people really look into everything deeply before making their choices, and how it will impact their family and or friends.
What an appalling end. The nuns were kind and brave. Syphilis back then was very frightening. A book on diseases, "The sick rose"(?) with the original medical illustrations, showed how it would disfigure the face and body. Incurable today as it was then, but better controlled today.
Keep the text please O.O. - Your images are wonderful, the text enhances, the pace is ideal and now your excellent narrative perfects the presentation! Please keep going your own way. Many Thanks, I'm so lucky to have stumbled across your channel.
I love your work and feel that by you uncovering so many of these old cases that you may be helping them to move on and by telling their stories it keeps them to be remembered and loved .. I know they must feel it.. God bless you..
Long overdue, but I 100% agree that the text slides should stay. It would be such a shame if people with hearing difficulties could no longer enjoy your wonderful videos. History is endlessly fascinating (and it certainly helps that you bring it to life so well); there are so many mysteries yet waiting to be discovered, and these strange and fascinating chapters deserve to be viewed by as wide an audience as possible.
I found you yesterday, and as I play RU-vid while I work, I had to stop with your past videos when I worked backwards to your "first talky." I know it might be frustrating to your older subscribers to see old stories repeated rather than new ones added to the list, but as a new subscriber who can't read the slides while I play the video, I really want you to know how much I appreciate it.
I'm honestly baffled that people would be rude to you. You work is always very detailed and interesting and you carry yourself so professionally. Some people just have no taste or humanity!
Thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback my friend :) I get abused on a daily basis by trolls, but happily they are in the extreme minority.
Thanks for the re-edit. I recently discovered you and have voraciously been watching all of the older stories. Beautifully done. Before the actual vote, I have to say that while I love the pictures, I don't mind the text.
Realizing this is two years ago. I am so happy you went and redid these! Also, glad you kept the text slides. I think I have hit binge mode!! Love your stories. Oh, I knew you were Australian the first time I heard you speak. Live Aussies accents, and you have said mate several times. Thank you for your stories
NO NO NO, I love the way you do these, Audio , text slides and some photos, I have started binge watching/listening to these recently. Please keep up the good work.
my husband doesn't "hear" English but reads it quite well - so your slides are a help when I'm not around to translate for him. love your channel - keep up the great work :)
Thank you for the narration as I am legally blind so reading the texts at times can be difficult. I would keep the texts though for the hearing impaired. Again thanks for narrating and I like your accent as I too am Australian but have only one British parent and I live in the USA.
Yay! I pulled Australian from your accent! To your question, I prefer the text slides with narration and photos. Love you Oddie! I'm new to your channel, a few weeks, but I tell everyone about you!
Yes, forget those haters.. I really enjoy your accent and voice. I’m in Québec, Montréal, West Island. I have started watching your site and I enjoy it because of your voice, it is so pleasant . I love how you do the parts where your speak as that person you are reading of.. especially if it’s a woman.. lol keep up the great work.
I LOVE you narrating with text! Keep em coming.. Your voice is soothing and am absolute delight to listen too! I just subscribed because of this.. Amazing sir! Thank you..
ObsoleteOddity - Thank you for Beau Brummel history. This is one of the items you hear about and make a mental note to read, or watch the history of , then lose the note. To finally hear and see it with your smooth melodious voice and thoroughness of Beau's history, is a joy this day. Great French au revoir you gave. No vote for the plates you spoke of, Your presentations are as you like it, so do we . You are a rarity .
Hello Sir. I am your new subscribber. Through your video, i learn to polish my English pronunciation , spelling and vocabulary. I am so grateful. Thank you for being so wonderful story teller. God bless you. :)
@@rosyclaire Unless you're a native or you have traveled there, any English speaker will use common pronunciation. Same thing with French names with nasals, but thanks for your info.
Thanks so much for the stories. I've just discovered your YT account and it's become my night time listening before I go to sleep, so I loove the narrated ones! Keep up the good work :-)
Personally, my vote is text, narration, and slide presentation. Really enjoy listening to your voice. Thank you for doing these interesting historical subjects, and mysteries. History buffs, like myself, can never get enough stories!!
This was like watching this for the first time Once again ,I was transported. I could listen for hours. And thank you for answering questions I wanted to know but didn't want to ask💞. I think,in my humble opinion that you should keep the text.Everything is so artfully done.
Dearest Oddie, I just discovered you this month. It was instant love. Thank you for your time and talent. I'm hoping the text stays with the narrative. It makes for a living story. Blessings to you.
Nice job with the vids! You keep me glued to the story right through till the end.Switzerland has stunning natural beauty!I have been to Lucerne,on my way to Milano from Amstterdam.I drove, it was cool. Thanks!!!
A story that could only be properly narrated with a British accent, with a hint of Aussie mixed in. Yeah, I've got my cup of Earl Grey, wearing my stylish smoking jacket, and sitting in the study.
I am really grateful for the narration. I eyes are not to good anymore. I enjoy your voice it is a little exotic and soothing to me. The stories are facinating and I have never heard them. V
I'm so glad your doing the narrations now. glad your going back and doing the narrations on older ones you've done love listening to you! Your one of my favorite channels! 😀
What a treacherous end! I don't wish that on my worst enemy! Thank you for that mesmerizing story 🎉 keep narrating, your voice is amazing and love the sound effects!
Oh, Joy! Another video from Oddie is like a gift from a friend. This great-grandma votes for keeping the text along with the spoken word. Not only is it helpful for those of us with hearing impairment, but I believe it may help those who may be learning to speak & read English (or American or Australian.... LOL!) Keep it Creepy, Oddie. We love you!
Please keep things the way the way they are.... I love your story telling...love your accent! The texts, the slides, oh, please keep as is, if I missed something you said I can look at the text. I have a chronic illness and am not able to read the way I use to, listening to you brings me happiness, thank you!
I know this has been up for a long while, but, please, don't ever change anything. It may seen odd, but, I find your narration very relaxing, quite calming, really. The text helps me understand something that can be hard for me to hear, at times, since my husband and I are listening while riding in a tractor trailer, going across the country.
just discovered your channel please keep text and narration both beneficial to me. Also love listening to your voice. Thank you for your channel and the hard work that goes into your vids.
Oh Oddy, so sad...even if he was rude and owed ALOT of money to people he didn't deserve to die like that....please don't change a thing on your channel!! It's the BEST I've ever seen and heard. Your graphics are outstanding as is your storytelling and stories!! I'm hooked! I will Always have your back and of course you have that many subscribers, your the Ultimate! Tysm for sharing this Sweetie and as always, Namaste. I'm Addicted💯💯💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏💜
Thank you. I love everything you do. You do such a beautiful job. A story where his inheritance mistakeningly gave him a sense of superiority and arrogance. So he possibly felt the world owed him ... love and thank you. Ive never met an Australian I didn't love. Super people. Salt of the Earth. Thank You.
I just knew that was an Australian accent! I doubted myself because I felt like you lived somewhere in Europe! I love your voice and you could be a professional narrator! I don't speak French although I have traveled in Europe and went to parts of France, such as Paris, Swizterland, Italy and Germany during the 1990's. Loved every moment of my travels! I think you speak French perfectly - lol - but I wouldn't know the difference. I do love your voice and it doesn't sound "on the cheap" to me, you really sound like a Pro!
French Canadian from northern Ontario. I just want to say that your friendship is pretty darn good, you roll those r's à la perfection. I enjoyed both watching and listening to your videos I’m actually doing my nails right now, LOL, I would keep it as is I am simply because of the amount of work that went into making the sides and the videos already. Your compassion and forethought for people who have hearing issues shows a great deal of your heart and how kind and thoughtful it is. I find your narrations Very soothing and I love how regardless which video you watch however horrible the events might be you walk off or work out whatever learning something and the way you describe it so respectfully and
posted before I was done . You walked away from the videos feeling bad for the people involved but also thankful for modern comfort I think. So as we would say in French up here Lâche pas la patate son pére! Which translates to don’t stop Daddio and this would be this would’ve been used a few years back and I know the accent on the E is on the wrong way but this is northern Ontario dialect so do you abundantly plus blast plus plus works too and auto translate you know auto dictate whatever just do you have a great night and please keep posting these videos they are amazing and thank you for posting them I’m gonna go get a backho for the whole I’m digging now see you later
Yassss all my yes! Im new (5/24/17) but this channel is all i want and more! Old cases, creepy or real sad content and interesting topics! Im looking forward to mkre of your re narrated stuff and me and my roommate will patiently wait. Thanks and more power!
Nice...Aussie! I'm so glad you are narrating your silent videos! I say keep the slides bc there are people who do not hear and reading these, well it's the best of both worlds!! You rock!!
Hello there I am trying to watch all your uploads . Tonite I will watch this too , thanks for narrating , love your voice and everything . Keep up the good work , love all the way from Malta 🇲🇹
I often make the mistake of falling asleep listening to your voice because it is extremely relaxing and soothing. Then the content gives me nightmares. It is totally worth it. Thank you!!
I am visually impaired, so I admit that I don't always read the text. However, it can be helpful to some to have the text. Really, it's up to your preference~ Either way, I am so happy to have found your channel, and I look forward to viewing even more. Thank you for your kindness.
Wonderful storytelling...I am so glad I found your channel! Thank you for taking the time to make these interesting videos. I've hooked my laptop to my TV and it's like watching good, short movies! And I enjoy your short commentaries at the end of the videos I've seen so far. As I and many others have mentioned, you have a great storytelling persona & voice.
Thank you for making such intriguing, fascinating and tragic videos. I absolutely adore your voice! It's a bit dark but also sympathetic. Don't change a thing! I dig the text and like I said above, your narration is fantastic! Keep on making them and I'll keep listening ✌️💙✨
Thank you so much for your narrating abilities. I can no longer see the small print and a lot of times I will scroll past things because of it. YOu also have the voice for it
Certainly got your back Oddity. Enjoying so very much of all that I have watched so far. More interesting than many things I have watched on RU-vid because the way you have put it all together. The reading you do. Excellent sir, once again I thank. 😷🙏♥️💛💚
