This is the video that made me subscribe. I was on a job in the middle of nowhere at a old womans house, and she said she had caught a baby bull snake on a glue trap she has in her basement because of her mouse problem. She told me it had been about 4 days and she just threw the glue trap outside. Well as I was wrapping up for the day I saw something in the tall grass and figured I grab it and throw it away because it looked like trash. Well it was the glue trap and a little snake was on it, went to pet her because I felt bad and figured she was dead... but no there was movement so I took the snake home with me on that blue trap, got her free. Had a small thing of water next to me and she started drinking out of it while I was holding her still. Never had that before, but stuck to something in the summer heat for 4 days I would be thirsty as well. Picked up and tank and everything else needed that I looked up that would make her happy. Now whenever I go near her she starts smelling, when I put my hand in the tank and say baby and move my fingers she comes and climbs up on me and just hangs out on me. She's a sweetheart. So thank you for you reptile videos

+Karl Unterreiner That's such a sweet story Karl. Thank you for the comment and for saving that baby bullsnake. Glue traps are honestly evil things that only cause a very torturous death for the animals caught on them. I'm glad you're a viewer, thank you for watching and loving reptiles!!

One of my absolute favorite native constrictors. Beautiful and it's fantastic to know that she has lived for so long. Thank you for sharing about her. Thumbs UP. We really need natural rodent predators like this and it's always so unfortunate when people kill them while hunting or fishing.

I love the genus Pituophis. My only reptile is a Northern Pine Snake. He's fun to hang out with and doesn't hiss when handled. If you surprise him in his cage, you'll hear about it. Going out for walks is almost impossible since he will remain motionless on the grass as well as spend most of his time looking for a hole.

Hey Bruce, longest i measured in Alberta for science purposes was 6'8". Not many reach that size up here as far as we know, but on the other hand, there's a lot of country out there and a lot of bullsnakes never seen by human eyes i suspect! I have measured plenty 6' and just over in Alberta.

The kids freak out when they see one, but I have taught them all to just leave them be and enjoy from a distance because they are harmless ☺ Now Diamondbacks, I chase those guys away when they come in, but bulls are welcome to stay. I mean, most snakes are very chill animals if you actually look them up. Very few species of snakes are agressive
@ABonafideSkeleton
@ABonafideSkeleton 8 лет назад
Constrictors are incredibly chilled out snakes, the only way to get bitten by one is to either scare them or have them get confused and mistake your fingers for food. King snakes, ball pythons and corn snakes are all non venomous and do make good pets, I think hognosed snakes are mildly venomous (nothing lethal, worst that will happen is that you'll feel unwell) but they're also very chill. Although the most important thing to remember about snakes is that a snake will not love you, they don't form attachments like cats and dogs do, with snakes it's more a case of them tolerating you stroking them and holding them. But they're still nice pets to own, they're very relaxing to hold and despite them not quite having that spark that a lot of other domestic animals have and they're very curious and inquisitive creatures that have a lot of character to them.

@burningroses2399
@burningroses2399 4 года назад
They can be. The only thing is, these are larger snakes. Females can get to seven feet and if you can't comfortably handle that then you shouldn't invest in the breed. They don't have high humidity requirements but still need a proper tank/set-up. They do have a large appetite so you need a reliable source of rodents (not just mice but also rats. Mice are high in fat). They will get a lot and demand food from you, but you can't overfeed them. One large rat, once a week, for a full-grown adult would be good, but that info can still change depending on situations. Bullsnakes are native to America and many states have different sub-species, so if you live in The States then they shouldn't be restricted. However, because females get big, there might be laws against that size in your city. One of the main drawbacks of bulls is..their name. Like in other animals, anything named with "bull" tends to have a temper. I really don't think these guys are that bad, but you need to get one captive-bred and as a baby. As a baby, you have to handle them frequently and for a long period of time. They will be nippy and hissy, but if you handle them, they will calm down. If you don't do this or are too afraid of the tiny snake hissing at you when its a baby, you will have a four foot + snake later on that will not tolerate human contact. It's better to get bit by a baby that doesn't have developed teeth compared to an adult with actual teeth. This is why bulls aren't recommended as new snakes. They are wonderful, gorgeous, and great natured, but if you don't have experience with dealing with a snake's attitude or know their body language, then you're not going to be able to properly take of them.

I don’t think they’re good for beginners, they get huge and they are sometimes very aggressive. I’d recommend something with less of an attitude for a beginner. Especially if you have no background with snakes. I know this was 2 years ago but I felt like saying this lmao. I have multiple snakes of my own and I’d rate corn snake the best snake.

I wouldn't say they r mean, more so defensive! think about it, a potential predator 10 times your size walks up on u u would probably try to scare it off to! that's all the snake is doing! just leave it room and it'll likely head off somewhere away from u

I've had a bull snake for almost 3-4 months, how are you able to hold it so well? I heard they don't like to be held at all, i've tried hook and without hook, maybe sometimes very rarely he'll let me put my hand in there and he'll just glide across it.

also kingsnakes and milksnakes are some good beginners choices. I actually wouldn't recommend a ball python or a hognose, because they can both be picky eaters and will go on feeding strike. Also hognose snakes often go thru a pissy phase where they become agressive and bluff strike and hiss for a month or 2

I grew up in west ND, where the bullsnake and the Plains Garter snake are really the only common snakes to be found... and would catch a few bullsnakes each summer to keep as pets for a month or two at a time. i only had one adult that was exceptionally tame and docile; the rest were almost universally aggressive.

How do you walk a snake? Just let it slither on the ground? Does she have a leash or harness or something?

You just let it slither on the ground. You still have to watch it, of course

I took my lovely reptile on walks in my neck so she could get some fresh air. She just chilled there and was really curious about the world. :)

if u want to know about venomous snakes there's a really cool new tool called Google!!! simply ask venomous snakes in your state/country! it helped me out a lot I can identify most snakes in my state now! I can easily identify the venomous ones! it helps that I have only 2 kinds of venomous snakes in my state out of 48 different species of snakes

Beau's patterning is absolutely beautiful it's very Leopardesque in away x3 and what do you mean by taking Beau out for a walk is that letting her out in the garden to slither about or something else?

Any chance I would stumble upon one in Wisconsin and if I do would I have reason to run away?
@e-reptiledysfunction2243

I'm not sure if they r n Wisconsin, they r found throughout a good portion of the USA, u could always Google it! for ur next question no u have no need to run away! any snake u meet up with wants to get away from u just as much as u want away from them! just give them plenty of room to get away and u won't have a problem
