Take a trip through the Buller gorge as seen from the front of a West Coast Coal Train. Enjoy the rumble of the DXC Locomotive pulling 30 wagons.
4K 50fps recording on a GoPro 10. Train driver's view, locomotive engineer's view, engine driver's view.

After decades of travelling by road opposite the railway line, allowing me to travel with the driver's view fulfills my dreams. I am grateful and thankful to you for uploading this wonderful film..

It's beautiful through there needs a passenger train through there as well for visitors and locals alike between the coal trains and I reckon it would be full.

Must be a lot of maintenance involved - soft ground , heavy rain , erosion , earth tremors .. but spectacular scenery. I've been through there on the motorbike 40yrs ago and didn't know the railway existed .

I thought this train took off from near the old packing plant, but then later I see the Buller River to your left, which indicated you were travelling towards Westport. Confusing to me???

There are some long straight sections once the railway moves away from the river. With the actual speed locomotive engineer's view videos appearing on RU-vid it makes me think I should put my Otiria to Ontonga (when the battery went flat) GoPro video up. Anthony

Yeah for sure, I used to speed it up but people want to be a part of the ride at realtime speed. And the line for the entire gorge is limited to 40km/h at the moment, normal line speed for that section is still only 50km/h

Thanks a million. Great to see a piece of N.Z.West Coast. A bit different to the West Coast of Tassie. Cheers,Keith. 😊

At 60 minutes was that the Cascade Creek bridge, where there used to be a siding for coal LA's to be shunted to the bins?

I've lived in both, would have to say both islands have beautiful places, the Southern Alps in the South Island are pretty spectacular though

hi where did this video start from certainly not inangahua ,towards westport to much flat ground at the start was it stillwater
@samocooper9070
@samocooper9070 8 месяцев назад
It was Inangahua station, the main road is around 500m to the left of the track, and joins the rail while passing over the river, the settlement is accessed via a rail over bridge shortly after.

More than 70years ago we travelled from Inangahua to Westport on the Vulcan railcars RM51-53. Never appreciated the scenery then as I do from this display.

Hi what is the track width gauge in NZ ???
@samocooper9070
@samocooper9070 3 месяца назад
Most countries of the world have a “standard gauge” of 1,435mm. New Zealand's track gauge is only 1,067mm, so is quite narrow in comparison.

Excellent! Where is the start point?
@samocooper9070
@samocooper9070 2 года назад
Inangahua warrant station, the buildings on the right was a mill serviced by the rail many years ago

Happens a lot, although it's not that fun, muddy water and pouring rain. Hey thanks for checking out the video😊
