What we got up to in this video...
Pictures do not do this place justice! Just wow!
We left Manila for the mountain province of Banaue, we took an overnight bus and arrived around 4:30am it was cold, but we are used to this back in the UK which was actually quite a nice change for us compared to the heat. We took a day tour to visit the Batad rice terraces and Tappiya falls. We had a fantastic day of trekking with our local guide James he explained about the history of the rice terraces and the village.
We really enjoyed our day in the mountains and seeing the most beautiful rice terraces we have seen yet.
We hoped you enjoyed this video and if you did then please show us some support by subscribing to our channel and being part of the on the move community!

We LOVED our trip to The Philippines and we went to 14 different places in total from going all the way up North to Vigan, to the islands down South with the bluest water we have ever seen! 🇵🇭 We enjoyed many adventures together in this beautiful country and tried as much food as we could fit in too! We would really appreciate any recommendations and ideas for our next trip, anything we missed? Where do you think we’d enjoy exploring next? James made your money worth , its not just a trek , but introduces the beetle nut chewing which makes your teeth strong , and the self-sufficient pounding of rice for family consumption . It retains more of its nutrients than rice mill . And that traditional house!!! I sit for an hour in the corner of it , just immersing myself on its tranquility & spectacular view ( betwern 4-5 pm ) . Someday , i will visit Batad again.
@jhunneoyiesariapanliliogar2033
It's betel nut dear. And whoever told you that chewing that nut is good for your teeth is lying. On the contrary, regular chewing of betel nuts causes tooth decay, and gum disease and can also lead to oral cancer. Don't take my word for it, you can research and find it out yourself. In this time and age of advanced technology and increasing knowledge, I expect people to be a bit more responsible in blurting out things and not just rely on old beliefs, sayings, and obsolete knowledge. We have to constantly upgrade our understanding of things to keep abreast with time.

Oh… now I miss home. Last time I went to Batad was 14 years ago. They say if you are from an area, you tend to miss out on what other people see… I grew up in Ifugao and I’m still in awe everytime I see it. Perhaps it’s because we attribute it more as our link to our ancestors just imagining how they carried those rocks from the bottom of the mountain to create those terraces without any tools. As for the betel nut chewing, this is mostly in the Ifugao region. It does not have any particular health benefits but it is like having coffee and cigarette after a big meal but without the risk of lung cancer. 😂 And because of the lime, you rarely see plaque in their teeth but it does harm the gums overtime. People say the Banaue rice terraces is the 8th wonder of the world, although not officially, as a UNESCO heritage site, it is still a place worth visiting.

Again, great shots esp. the drone footage. :) But yeah, the terraces would have looked better if the rice hasn't been harvested yet and are still green. But still looks awesome I know it's hot but things really look way better when the sun is out. About the age. i think historians are now contesting that they are millennia old but only centuries old. But it doesn't matter. They're still awesome and the Banaue terraces are actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plus it's the site that was used for the Thanos ending scene in the Avengers. :)

Hey guys, i just saw a vlog earlier on a place here called BILIRAN which is a small island province in the Visayas region. The beauty of the place just blew me away. It's off the beaten track and not touristy, so if you want that kind of setting with island beaches and beautiful falls, you might want to consider it. Check out the video: HAWAII OF THE PHILIPPINES - BILIRAN ISLAND by Jumping Places And someone here also suggested TAGAYTAY. Yes, i think you should also visit it before you head to the southern islands. Tagaytay is only about 3 hrs drive south of Manila. It has the famous TAAL VOLCANO within a lake. The other popular places to visit there are SKY RANCH AMUSEMENT PARK, TWIN LAKES (my favorite), and CROSSWINDS RESORT (mini Switzerland). :)

Wow! I admire how you filmed how to chew "Nga-Nga" my grandma used to chew that, instead of cigarette or cigar that was their favorite past time. I remember I was only 5 yrs old and my brother was 13, and we stole some if it, chew it and we got high and felt so dizzy. 😅🤣. Proud to be born and raised in The Philippines, but I haven't been too Banaue, only in Baguio. I want to visit there someday.

May I correct, it is particular only in Banaue, there are different types of houses in the Philippines, depends on the regions around Philippines, but the most distinct is "bahay kubo" 💖🇵🇭👍

As a Filipino, I've never been there. I just saw it on the picture. I know it's just there but never try visiting it. Those rice terraces was built 2000 yrs ago by the native people by just using their bare hands. It get cold there during the night 5 degrees specially month of December to February.

I, once tried that gigantic mortar and pestle after seeing a young local girl use it. It’s really heavy!! I couldn’t even lift it and pound for over 5x haha but it was a nice experience. Glad you’re enjoying your stay here! Stay safe!

The betel nut shown here by the guide has a “feel good” and alertness effects. It’s popular among South East Asians among the village older people.

Now I saw how the igorot people prepare the beetle nut before chewing it. Wow, thanks for your video I learned something from my fellow Filipino. Thats why Igorots have brown teeth and tongue bec of chweing beetle nut.
@Kafagway
@Kafagway Год назад
Actually, it’s deep red. 😂 and this is only particular to Ifugao. Not everyone in Cordillera (Igorot land) chews betel nut so let’s not make a generalization as not to upset the other tribes. 😉

Betel nut is the most addictive fruit. It is also chewed by many Pacific islanders. The first time I chewed it out curiosity was when I saw my grandma chewing it then I ask if I can chew also my grandma just smiled and gave all the sangkap/ ingredients to me After chewing them all I feel like the world is turning around. I spit it all from my mouth and sit down because I feel like falling to the ground. My grandma said that's what you feel if chew it for the first time.
