All of his videos have the same editing quality, he must have some knowledge on cinematography, maybe even some formal education on it because it is simply amazing, he's got the perfect setting too.
That was not only beautiful, but funny and inspiring. Thank you, Paul. Made my day. This is the anniversary of my Mom's passing, and I am sitting here playing these chords to her. With love.
Definitely resonates a warm vibe from his color choices, lighting to his voice and especially his playing. Does a fantastic job of making listeners comfortable. Can’t imagine being his student learning at his place!
SIR slowly I am starting to believe that your not only awesome at guitar and teaching but also at *Editing*. Hands down one of best guitar videos I have ever seen.
I am 57 years old and have been playing metal for most of my life Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, ETC. you have peaked my curiosity to pick up my acoustic again. Beautiful acoustic chords. I can hear an original song in my head with the chords you just showed me. I think my lady would rather hear that. I might get lucky!
I'd certainly agree! AND I must add that there is a second Bob Ross of guitar RU-vid that I highly recommend--my buddy @EricHaugen got called the Bob Ross of guitar instruction by none other than the Recording Academy on a World Guitar Day article from a few years ago: "Haugen's material is daring and inventive, his channel is warm and inviting, and his teaching approach is relaxed yet empowering - think Bob Ross for guitarists." It's great watching their videos back to back...all we need now are some happy trees and squirrels to start popping up in these videos!!
I just want to say Paul, I've been playing the guitar for 17 years, and in the last few years, my skill has exponentially grown. Well, more like the way that I think about playing the guitar has grown, and I attribute a lot of my success to you. Thank you very much good sir!
I can't explain how much Paul's videos have helped my playing. I was years deep down the rabbit hole of shred guitar playing when I discovered this channel. I was floored by how Paul is able to play some of the most basic guitar material and make it sound absolutely gorgeous and perfect. To me, watching this video is beyond impressive. It's forced me to take a step back and remember the two most important aspects of the instrument - playing things that sound good and are tasteful and also buying lots and lots of very expensive guitars.
Inspirational….I am a beginner in many ways….but even I try some of these chords…the happiness in actually managing some of these chords is magical…and sets me up to jam along with my favourite bands…..thank you
I accidentally learned A minor and D minor. A minor when I put my fingers in a random position. D minor when I was learning a Ghoultown song, and I played the riff as a chord.
Like seriously... Out of all the youtubers this guy really knows what he is doing... He recreates, innovates and puts up a soothing feeling from this instrument...
I am actually "inventing" "new" chords by just moving shapes over the fretboard and trying how and where do they sound right with/without some open strings and it is real fun. Paul is the master who than name them and explain all the theory and give me a new inspiration for which I am very grateful. BTW: fantastic idea of two Pauls each one in other's notebook, respect! :)
There are lots and lots of “generalisable” shapes on the guitar, So long as you know what note is the root note of the 3 you’re playing, And you know your intervals, You can know what chord you’re playing and not just by ear, Having a sense of major and minor, Sus, dim, and aug chords shapes and which ones I can generalise to other parts of the neck really helped. So like knowing that you can generalise a shape all the way along the neck, Knowing it will produce the same chord type all away along the neck, But the only thing that changes is the notes under your fingers, Making it a different chord, But because your fingers haven’t changed shape, The intervals that make up the chord are still the same, just the notes that make up the chord is different,
I have to comment on your course, "Next Level Playing". It has really given my guitar playing the boost it needed to be able to improvise over chord progressions. I still use the Bonus Pack tracks when I practice to get myself loose and focused. It is worth every penny!
Wow!!!! Thank you for not only the education, but for slowly demonstrating truly beautiful chords and chord progressions. It’s really nice to see a video of actual chords that sound sad/happy and overall beautiful. You sir, are phenomenal!
One of my absolute favorite little pieces of sound is a regular C to a Csus2/B, played on the 4 lowest strings (I normally tune the low E string down a whole step to make the Csus2/B easier to play). Sounds heavenly on the telecaster with reverb and the tone knob turned 40-50% down.
Best guitar teacher in the world! You explain things so clearly, simply and logically even a dumb ass like me can get it. The camera work and sound are excellent. Love the whole "talking to yourself" gag! Seriously, Paul Davids is the best guitar teacher on the net or anywhere else!!!
Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos. As a bass player of 16 years I have tried picking up a 6 string many times over the years and very quickly given up trying to learn chords as my hands would never quite get the hang of different chord shapes and would fatigue surprisingly quickly. After my wife and I had our daughter I desperately wanted to learn to play some songs on acoustic that I can sing to her. After finding your channel and seeing the pure joy and excitement you get even playing simple chord progressions I am glad to say I pushed through the initial wall that has blocked me so many times before and am developing my guitar playing at a rapid rate. So thanks again Paul without your videos and passion for the craft I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am now.
(Not looking for sympathy) Today was a really, really tough day for me. Watching this video, indulging in the music and learning these chords just made me simply at peace. Thank you, kind sir. You were put on this world for a reason.
Hi!! It’s tough for everyone right now, we’re all in the same boat; I’m from Wisconsin by the way. I’ve been diving into guitar more than ever just to get my mind off things.
Beautiful chords man. For those of us who are musical instruments all our own, and you know who you are and know what I mean, this hits somewhere extremely deep. Music is such a beautiful gift God gave to us. Thank you sir for sharing your gift with us. Don't forget to thank God everyday for the things He has given.
When I hear this playing, I think of something Stanley Jordan said: play a little, then listen... the next part will suggest itself to your mind. Play that, then listen some more
Brilliant,he shares his gold, his tutorals are best.I play guitar for 45 years,my band realeased 10 albuma, now solo career,I write music and lyrics,my band played as opening for David Bowie in front of 40.000 people in Zagreb back in 1990,etc,etc. But I still learn,I played classical ,never wanted to learn chord progressions in fear that in would ruin my crativity, but maybe I am wrong.Paul is master, often for me some chord suound is starting point ,the sparkle to a song.Recently I had a song that was often played on the radio in Croatia with only 2 beutyfull chords.I will share them on my channel, although I dont have time to be a proffesional youtuber. This video inspired me to do this, thanks Paul.
I just found "Sugar Coated" on Spotify. Paul, why are none of your RU-vid videos performance vids? The beginning of this video is so pretty that I just want to hear you play that guitar and float off into space. I love your lessons and I am playing and practicing again after many years off. But man, you need to get some more songs out into the world. Keep up the great work and the great channel.
This is definitely the best video I ever seen in my whole life about chords, you are the master of matching sounds together, your taste is perfect, the best sound expert
For me even as a metalhead who loves my explorer guitars and v's .. my first guitar ist still the most beautiful guitar for clean sound ... my stratocaster played with the neck pickup is just wonderful imo ♡ Thanks for sharing those chords and riffs.. I definitely try them next time I'm jamming and vibing on my guitar ^^ Well done and cheers! :)
Just figured out this kinda mu major chord that sounds cool with the b and e open. LowE -7 (ring) A-4 (index/pointer) D-7 (pinkie) G-6 (middle) B-0 highE-0
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I always enjoy your lessons, jokes and your wonderful accent. But when you reveal such a beautiful things it touches strings of my heart and I regret RU-vid does not have button 10 or even 100 likes :) Thank you one more time!
When you saw yourself weep and tried to console yourself with a sincere "Stay strong man" is the moment I began to weep... Wish we all loved ourselves as much.
If you take a regular C chord and slide it up 2 frets and add your thumb to 3rd fret of E string it makes a really nice Gmaj7 chord, and you can also add pinky on 5th of high e string for a different sound
I think that chords are just giving a emotion to you. Theory is hard to explain why we should use them. Let we study what chords can attract us. (Don't mind the chord name...
This philosophy reminds me of how U2`s Edge plays .. i saw a documentary once where he said that he`ll take a conventional chord shape and "play" with it to make it sound kinda different and new ..cheers anyways great vid !
So wow. I discovered the C-add9 and D-add9/11 years ago, and recorded a little two chord song for my friend with a little pocket recorder while waiting for him to show up. Right before he showed up I was searching for a chord that would complete the feeling I was looking for. Fast forward to now (and 9:45). I've been having a troubled relationship with my friend for years, we haven't talked in quite a while, and I've been thinking about how to talk to him about everything. Then comes that Emadd9 and it all starts flooding back in. That's it. The missing piece. What I need to say, how to convey it. Words, chords, lyrics. I wrote him a song. I'm sitting here in a pool of my own tears and staring at what I've made for him, all because of one chord. I'm going to talk to him soon. I'm going to try and bridge the distance. I sincerely apologize for being so dramatic in a RU-vid comment, but this video may have just changed my life. Thank you.
