"I don't know what's scarier. The fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to run a sword through my heart, or that sometimes I just wanna let 'em." Not gonna lie, that line broke me. I did not expect them to go that deep.
Indeed. It’s also crazy to think that the kingdom, the Institute and basically everything that the people know from birth was all built on a lie and that Nimona, for being the famed monster that led the foundation of this propaganda, witnessed how the area has grown into what it is now. Even when seeing it with their own eyes, the Director refused to accept that Nimona was never a threat to them and stand out because she was believed in their cause of the entirety of her heart. That devotion can easily turn into ignorance and blind hatred; makes it very dangerous.
Ngl I was stoked to see the thumbnail pop up on my home page. I feel like your biggest strength as a reactor is your ability to connect narratives to real world events in your own ridiculously eloquent manner and I was pretty sure the thematic elements in this movie would give you the perfect opportunity. Needless to say I was not disappointed 💜
I love Nimona so much! Also it’s based on a graphic novel written by the creator of Netflix’s she Ra. But the plot and characters go in completely different directions, which I really like. It makes it so both of them can stand more on their own.
This is one of those cases where a movie changes the plot from the original book, and people DON'T complain about it lol Probably because it still keeps the same charm as the graphic novel, including the LGBT representation, which is wonderful! It's always nice to see more people getting the chance to enjoy this film, it's such a gem
This is a case where it makes a lot of sense for a single movie coming from a serialized comic to change around some of the characterization and story for sure.
Nimona turned into a Phoenix when she flew at the cannon and that's why she was able to reform even after getting blown up with it, otherwise she probably would've actually died, considering that she was trying to do so by impaling her heart on the statue right before, so having her heart destroyed in the explosion would've totally taken her out too ToT
Shera reboot, yes please. I would looooove to hear your thoughts on the various backgrounds of the characters and how it informs their decisions. I think you'd have alot of intelligent discussion on this series.
Anyone else remember when Netflix put this movie on RU-vid for free?! I copied it as soon as I could and now I can watch it anytime, anywhere on any device all offline!
I love this movie this is one of my favorite queer+ films I have seen it is good! Rupaul is the male announcer. Nimona's shapeshifting is an allegory for being noncis- trans, mb, gender-fluid etc. Nimona is an adaptation of a graphic novel of the same name be ND Stevens they are the creator of she-ra
This and also the whole theme is queer, the struggle against institutional bigotry and the effects it has. This theme isn't exclusive to queerness of course, it can be applied to any oppressed group and any type of bigotry, but it is one of the central aspects of queer stories, so this movie is queer in every aspect, overtly and thematically
I’m so happy that you reacted to Nimona 💜💜. I was so excited to see your reaction and commentary, you always read so deeply and critically into stuff which is really nice. I saw a lot of people react to it and it was a little disappointing that the Queer themes and more deep topics passed right over their head. As always you never disappoint ✨
This movie is an amazing example of an adaptation truly understanding its source material. Because aside from the general idea of the world and characters, it's almost entirely different from the graphic novel. The plot's completely changed, character backstories, and even names have been altered (Ballister's last name used to be Blackheart, not Boldheart). But it's still *Nimona* at it's core
If you want to spend more time with them you should read the graphic novel its based on! The movie is actually very different from the comic and has a completely different plot, and I think it’s worth checking out. Both are flawed versions of the story but I think if you find the middle ground between the two there’s something really special there. It seems that the movie was originally more like the comic but after its production was cancelled and taken by Netflix an year later a lot of the plot was changed.
Nimona is a wonderful film, with some beautiful and important messages, themes and symbolism!! It's chaotic, but fun chaos! Lovely reaction as well. 🩷🖤✨️
