Beautiful Rusty Switcblade Knife Restoration 

On a scale of 1 to 10, that’s an 11. I restore knives & have learned a lot of tricks from watching this talented man’s videos. 99.999% of people would’ve thrown that knife in the trash. Thanks for restoring these historic beauties… 👍😎👍

I’m with Knife Knut I would give it way higher than a 10. I’m not sure I would have trashed it but it would have been in a box rusty until my kids put me into a home for the old. You should show some of the places your items end up. I know you said many are in museums.

I really like the colors within that new bakelite. I will say that the knife looks older than the 1970s. I honestly was thinking the late 1940s or very early 1960s. Either way I give you a 12 out of 10.

Abalone shell would be so pretty

Before reading your description, I would have guessed the knife is from the 1920s or 30s - the main heyday of automatic knives as art objects. After GIs "collected" a lot of them during WWII, quality went down to meet a new market demand. Of course, then you had a lot of knives in the pockets of hard-drinking young adults and so we get a lot of states issuing prohibitions on the type to cut down on the number of bar fights. Regardless of history - this came out as a great piece in the end.

So close to a 10 it’s beautiful but why not heat treat the blade? Also strengthen the spring so if flicks faster
