At least its pretty cool to see flashbacks of when the beast was still human.

Josh Allen Yes. And for as unnecessary as Jungle Book 2 was, I also thought it was pretty neat seeing how he lived his life in the village, the village that we had previously only seen from the outside.

@joyunicycle
@joyunicycle 8 лет назад
***** In a forced way they try to teach about being sorry, respect, working together, and how not everything's not as it seems. Not bad morals, if done right, but this movie didn't try at all on the story (or stories), it's all rushed and cliched, Belle is the only moral compass, and good grief the characters learning (including the Beast) are crappy, underdeveloped, and so unlikable that we often forget that we loved them in the first place, and don't need to learn it. It was all forced. And I think Carebears would have stronger morals than that film. It's that bad.

Forte is in my opinion the only reason to see this movie. Tim's voice acting is amazing, and the way his character is animated really makes him into the most notable character in the film from a visual perspective, that and the fact that he is a giant organ. While his point of view on his enchanted condition is a bit weird, I still think that he is a far better villain than Gaston. Gaston was a whiny bully, while Forte just wanted to be appreciated.

As cheesy as this midquel is, I'd definitely take it over Belle's Magical World any day simply because of the villain being voiced by Tim Curry and the fact that it's by FAR the least awful of the direct-to-video movies. A well balanced review.
@davidgraziano6235
@davidgraziano6235 7 лет назад
This, as the least awful? This is one of the worst of all of them. Bottom 5 easy. Yes the third one is worse, but that's like comparing World War 1 to World War II, you lose either way.
@bunnychu15
@bunnychu15 7 лет назад
Crystal Master Umm...(points to comment) Please read what I actually said before getting all defensive and snapping at me? ^^; To clarify, when I said this movie was "by FAR the least awful of the direct-to-video movies," I was putting the emphasis on how BAD it was. Out of all the garbage my parents bought me when I was younger, the only two I even bothered keeping (let alone remotely liked) were the two Lion King sequels (and yes, I'm aware 1 1/2 is basically Timon and Pumbaa the movie, but it at least kept to the "Shakespeare-esque plot with animals" of the other two in its canon.) Tim Curry as the organ and Bernadette Peters as the ornament were pretty much the ONLY redeeming qualities of this movie, the only reason I'd take this shoved down my throat over Belle's Magical World (I have little cousins who don't know any better.) This was one of the many my parents bought for me when I was little because "oh a cheap direct to video Disney movie she can watch while we're gone" and I remember selling it when I was old enough to realize that it wasn't worth my time, let alone anywhere NEAR as good as the original (which other than Lion King is my favorite animated Disney film.)

I don't think I'd necessarily call this film "harmless," Doug. Especially with that gut-churning scene with Belle in the dungeon... In recent years, because the Internet is overly critical of everything, some of us Beauty & the Beast fans have had to defend the original against accusations that Belle has Stockholm Syndrome and Beast is an abusive boyfriend. Which isn't quite true. When Beast throws a tantrum, Belle LEAVES. But then she gets attacked by wolves and rescued by Beast and since it would've been a cold move on her part to leave him to die in the snow, she does take him back to the castle to fix him up. He does try pinning the blame on her... and she REFUSES to take that shit, calling him on his bullshit while also thanking him for saving her life. It's the beginning of Beast's long path to redemption, realizing that he can't just be a bully to his servants or others to cope with his crappy circumstances. However... with The Enchanted Christmas, all we ever see is Beast throwing tantrum after tantrum... and Belle doing practically EVERY Mary Sue thing in the book to make him happy. The flanderization of their characters is a huge flaw in this movie. You know how there's that generic impression of what Disney princesses and princes are like? It's funny how Beauty & the Beast subverted many of those, while the sequel The Enchanted Christmas embraced many of them. Belle in The Enchanted Christmas is DEFINITELY Stockholm Syndrome incarnate, and the special failed to give Beast a number of redeeming qualities. For fuck's sake, just for trying to chop down a Christmas tree, almost drowning, and disobeying his orders to not leave the castle (even to do something to please him), he throws her in the fucking dungeon. Yeah... I'm sure that's gonna help her hypothermia, Beast. Beast: "You said you'd never leave." Belle: "I wasn't trying to leave. I was trying to make you happy." WHAT. THE. FUCK. DISNEY?
@DWAkhaten
@DWAkhaten 8 лет назад
+James Scott Yeah, that scene was so wrong! Beauty and the Beast is already an uncomfortable movie for me to watch, and these sequels aren't helping! The Enchanted Christmas and Belle's Magical World are the only two Disney movies I get upset about, and that's because they're aimed at children. Why would Disney make an abusive relationship (or at the very least, an abusive friendship) something kids are supposed to root for? People always talk about how the sequels were half-assed, but how could anyone with any sort of moral compass be so thoughtless?

So it was Christmas when Belle was staying at the castle. How long was she there for? How long did it take Gaston to put his plan into action when he thought of it not long after Maurice returned? How long was Lefou outside Belle's house? As far as I'm concerned I don't consider this film or Belle's Magical World canon. I mean what is canon, Beauty and the Beast was just one movie with no good follow ups.

As someone who admittedly grew up with this film, I agree with you. It's certainly not as amazing as the original and Belle & Beast's relationship did kinda get the shaft since they spend most of the movie apart, but there are still things to like about it. And if you watch the behind-the-scenes featurette, there was clearly some effort being put into this movie, especially with the score and animation. And I love how excited the actors clearly were to be playing these characters again, and that Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters were happy to be on board as well (Tim in particular). Could Enchanted Christmas have been a lot better? Absolutely. But it's still WAY more watchable than Belle's Magical World (blah).

Not only is Beauty and the Beast my favourite Disney Movie, but it's one of my favourite Movies in general. After watching this movie, all I could say was, "How dare they try to cash in on such a timeless masterpiece." However, the one and only good thing in this movie is as Doug said, Tim Curry.

"Stories" is still my favorite animated Disney songs. I know that there are better and bigger songs but It just speaks to me more. Although I had yet to see the original at the time. But even after I saw it I still loved "Stories". ...still my favorite. ....You can't change it....nope. Favorite.

As a kid, the organ absolutely terrified me and my siblings! Now as an adult, I find the character design more disturbing than scary. I haven't watched this movie in ages, but if I were to watch it again I'd probably agree with Doug here.

I actualy don't find the music that "half-assed", when Belle sang "stories", I confess this song really pushes my buttons correctly, and Forte is one of my favourite villains because..heck, his design, his voice, his concept... For all the direct-to-dvd releases Disney made, this is my favourite.

Am I the only one who saw Disney sequels before seeing the originals as a kid? I feel sorry for those who had their parents show them the sequels before the original classics. This is a movie I was kinda embarrassed in seeing as a kid, but at least it's not as bad as many other sequels. Also I didn't know Tim Curry was the Organ! Merry Christmas guys!

I remember, being younger, being rather scared of the organ. He was huge, he was imposing, and he was loud. He just had this really powerful presence on screen. Even the only name they call him, "maestro," of course being the guy in charge of the orchestra, has an indication of his power. He was the master, even having sway over the actual master of the estate. Pretty neat villain.

I personally love this movie and still do. Honestly I see the points given for its flaw on the other side of the aisle here but there's just something very touching about this film that is always a joy to watch every year. Even til this day I can't figure out 100% why. We like what we like I suppose :)

One thing thats makes this better then most DVD Disney sequels is that it's a single story. So many of them were odd 3 part stories. Oddest was the tarzan and Jane since there was a Disney Tarzan series (a good watch by the way)

One thing you gotta give credit, unlike the first movie, this one actually tries to show us what happened the day the castle and its inhabitants are cursed, which we are never shown in the first film, so its got that going for it at least. Also, Tim Curry. Because Tim Curry always is AWESOME when he plays a villain.
