As the "Areca" is a main commercial crop of coastal and highland areas, we, the Areca farmers use different parts of areca tree, in our day today activities. So, there are varieties of uses of areca leaves. Some of the sustainable uses of areca leaf are presented in this video. Villege people use areca leaves in different formats. My uncle Mr. Laxminarayana bhat, has experience in preparing different crafts out of these areca leaves. I spent few hours with him to learn somany things.
We always use these areca leaves as it is, to carry things (fruits & vegetables) from farm to home. Similarly, these are used like a tray, while cutting vegetables as you see in our videos.
Broader leaves have more benefits like village people use them to hold their infants (1-2 month old babies) and even the leaves with palm branches used to play with kids (as shown at the end of the video).
Other usages of areca leaves are, preparing caps which are used while carrying heavy goods.
* Similarly, areca leaves cones are used for collecting items like arecanuts, mangoes, cashews etc. From farm.
* Areca leaves can also be used for having the meals (instead of banana leaves).
*Areca leaves fan can also be prepared. There are 2 types of areca leaves' handy fans are shown.
So these all products are eco friendly, thus village people blessed to use these items.
The purpose of this video is to create a documentary on different usages of areca leaves, that may be helpful for next generations. I think I included most of the things here, but some of them may have been skipped out. But I hope you enjoyed this video.
