The girl on the left said she had to wear that brands foundation so I’m assuming she worked at MAC. The other girl said her store didn’t have sales so I’m assuming Sephora

I will literally never forget the nice Nars lady who took her time to find the right shade for me. As someome who has tried makeup in the past and was put off from it due to never finding my shade. I was so happy! Honestly beauty shop employees can change people's confidence for the better!

When I worked at Sephora I saw this rich lady open an item and take it out of the box and put it in her purse. I told her , “ the cashiers need that box to ring you up.” She bee lined it out of the store.

Who even has confidence to try and return a foundation or lipstick that's nearly empty 😂😂

Getting free make-up is the dream, but having to be polite to people who are stealing in the store you work in must've been so hard!

I hated not being able to go after the people who stole from Sephora... also I had a child go thru the entire makeup forever artist shadows and literally took their toy car and smashed every single one of them and the mom just laughed- we told her he just smashed hundreds of dollars worth of products and she just went well I'm not paying for them. I loved that Sephora taught us skincare and color and we could help clients with what they actually needed not whatever influencers are pushing.

I would love to get paid for taking home bags of free makeup tho

Haha the worst thing I ever saw working at a beauty store is people that would apply the lipstick directly onto their lips... literally 20 people applying the same lipstick each day. Gross!

My favorite part about working at Ulta was when customers would ask for my product recommendations or what I was wearing, I loved helping them find something new to enjoy. Also seeing the brand new displays and being able to swatch before most people was super fun. I loved seeing what products people bought and chatting with them about it.

I never go to sephora anymore because the people who work there are always soo rude and I’ve noticed they always want to help the people who come in with makeup as opposed to people who don’t have any makeup on which is just really weird in my opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sephora employees treat you like garbage (or just ignore you altogether), if you go in wearing no makeup.

Totally different in germany - when you see someone stealing, you ask them to go to the back with you AND you call the police if they don`t work with you PLUS these persons will be banned from the shop at least for a year. And if you destroy something on purpose or you don`t watch your child, they will make you pay. 😅 And here you can`t return something you have used just because you didn`t like it. You have 14 days to return something, it has to be new! Only by a little little chance you can return something used. AND even in the case of an allergy to a product, most times you only get a gift card in the value of your product. You barely get your money back, unless it is new, not opened, you have the recipe and come in time. 😅

The return policy in America is sooo strange to me :D You could never just return an used up product to any store in Europe and honestly I think it is fair. How they accept the used products and return the money is a mystery to me :D It is such a loss for the company

I only have one Sephora close to me and the employees won’t talk to me unless I have a full face on and sometimes I would come without makeup and with makeup to see if they would interact, the only interact when I have makeup on to compliment me. I don’t think I have ever received help at all at Sephora and when I need help they just ignore me so I try to look around and find everything myself

I was at a Sephora one time in Australia and this 14 yr old girl was trying to return her font foundation for a new shade and thankfully they realise she had taken half out and mixed it with sunscreen. When they called her out and asked if she still wanted the new shade she said no. The whole thing was pretty funny to me but cannot believe someone could do that and not feel guilty.

Every time I've asked for a recommendation or shade match at sephora they suggest YSL or Marc Jacobs 🤑

I think makeup store’s standards have lowered. Ever since i stopped working at them it’s seems like the newer people know what’s popular but don’t know how to cater to a customers needs or even color match correctly.

I know that the workers judge your makeup ability based on what you're wearing at the moment, and that makes sense. It's just frustrating when I go into makeup stores barefaced because it's a bit day and the workers there treat me like I'm stupid and never wear makeup. Now I always try and only go in when I'm wearing a full face, as this is the only time when they treat me like I know what I'm doing or leave me alone

I walked into a Saphora once and this was when I was going through my emo phase for my makeup was like full raccoon eyes and my friend wanted me to change it meeting her parents cause her parents were very strict people and we asked one of employees if she could just do my makeup for free and she did which was pretty cool.

In my country you are not able to return un sealed Beaty products so even if the person at the beauty counter sold you a miss matched foundation or something breaks you out, you’re stuck with it.

I used to work at Ulta and there were some good things and pros to working there, but also a lot of cons. The store I worked for was brand new in my area so all of the employees helped set it up. Orientation and training was interesting... I felt like I wasn't trained well at all for the job, the actual cashiering part. I had to learn a lot of things on the fly and figure them out on my own on the job and I looked like a dork in front of guests because I didn't know what I was doing. Customers ranged from really nice and friendly to rude and entitled which for me, the customer service aspect of the job was the most difficult part because it's hard to be gracious and patient when someone is yelling at you for something you can't control. The discounts were great and my coworkers were really nice, but the atmosphere is very gossipy and strange. Most people were awkard around me because I am disabled and used a walker to help me get through shifts, but my managers were accomodating and kind. Overall, working at a beauty store gave me invaluable work and life experineces which I am thankful for.

They both seem so sweet and down to earth humans. Why dont i ever find any as good as them?? All sales assistants i met are just nasty and judge you for no reason

I went to a pretty expensive makeup store. I had a gift card for a pretty high amount. It included a makeover and makeup(I got to pick products after the makeover at the same value as the gift card). The makeup artist had purple blush, contour, eyeshadow and lip. I looked soooo fake after. Like an inch of foundation deep. I'm glad that shop closed.

I love Sephora/Ulta, but when I walk in there, I get no attention. I feel like since i’m a boy that wears concealer, no one cares about me. It’s a little annoying cause if I have questions, I feel as if i’m mostly blown off like I don’t matter. I know not everyone’s like this! I’ve made some “friends” that worked at sephora through shopping there, but definitely people seems to target people who look like they’ll buy things.

The biggest thing that sucks working in beauty ( specifically hair is my store) is that people think im trying to scam them. majority of our hair products only work if you do the entire shampoo,cond, treatment etc bc they each do a different thing. but no one wants to buy the whole set and then assume im just trying to make a sale :') rip my mental health everyday lol

okay so, i’ve never worked at a makeup store or consider myself a MUA but i love makeup and i’m kinda good at it so my friends and my sisters and their friends always ask me to do their makeup and i HATE when i ask them “like uhm so what do you want” and they’re always like “uhh idk shouldn’t YOU know?” no idk i’m not you we probably don’t have the same taste just give an idea of what you want, and also not everyone has the same eye shape so if you see a look online it may not look the same on you
