Should go down stream a few kilometers for before and after flow videos, or even catch upto the start of the big flow. Do these drain into a local river or ocean near by?
@Kenislovas
@Kenislovas Год назад
I saw myself several times the flow downstream. It's not looks like a big flood, the water level gets a bit higher and that's it, not worth to make it :) And water flows in to the river and finally meets the sea after ± 100 km.

Nice work as usual. If you don't mind a small technical suggestion, can you try adding a polarizing filter to the upstream camera? That will remove the reflection of the sky and will allow a better view of what's happening with the dam underwater.

Have you ever considered digging out the shoulders of the Dam first? The Shoulders are what anchors it to the bank & give it so much of its strength Could the flowing water & erosion on the shoulders destabilize the dam enough to fold it over?
@Kenislovas
@Kenislovas Год назад
Hi, I had removal yesterday. I weaken shoulders removed all front, but dam didn't collapse.. So all cases is different.. Dam structure plays the role.

We have several expressions in English (American): "that's water UNDER the bridge" of (less frequently used) "that's water OVER the dam." The first idiom means it's past, it's history, not much can be done now. The second idiom infers the reservoir is full, not a good situation, trouble is brewing if immediate action isn't taken. More serious forms of expression are "water OVER the bridge" (severe flooding) or "water UNDER the dam" --. suggesting imminent catastrophe.

As much water as was pouring over the top of the dam, there's just so much more! Usually by this point you're able to walk out on top of the base of the dam, on top of all the mud, but with this one the water is still rushing too fast for it to be safe! I'm 21:53 so glad you're careful. Your family and all the rest of us want you around for a long time to come! You are the best!!!

4:20 would it not be helpfull to destroy the back support of the dam(removing mud from the high side by loosening it up and let the water take it), so there is more pressure against the dam. i think it will make a better collapse. just use a longer rake(like 1m longer and an extra crossbar(20:20 shows why you need a l;onger rake)) so you don't stand in the waterflow when it goes.

I’ve read the comments made so far and would like to add my thoughts. It seems we viewers like the dramatic big collapses, so how to achieve them? I went back to the 2 big collapse videos and analyzed them. The common thing was the sides/shoulders giving way so the center ‘folded’ over. Well, you can arrange that! My theory is to weaken the entire base of the width, removing material until it’s slightly concave from the top lip. That will encourage the ‘fold over’. Next, on the far shoulder, remove material vertically from the bottom up. You’re knowledgeable enough to understand when you’re near ‘critical mass’; stop a bit before that, but leaking water will be good. Then repeat the vertical removal of material, bottom to top, on the near side, this time reaching ‘critical mass’. The weakened (near) side should wash away and start the center to folding over; that will pull the far side loose quickly and the show should be amazing. Of course, you’ll need to be alert and ready to get out of harm’s way, but you’ll know that, too. So, here’s to more great dam removals, big and small! Your SW WI USA widow fan ❤!
