Doing the Saturday morning drain cleaning route. Today we go to a new location to remove a board from a culvert resulting in a great water flow. Also presented with a heavy log obstacle that needed the aid of the 4-wheeler to pull it out as well as an unexpected whirlpool.

@@BarrettFarms I’ve seeing on Post 10’s channel a site in Massachusetts where they’ve installed a triangular “trash rack” that the beavers can only build around and easily can be cleared if you’re in the water

Have you seen the Triangular Trash Rack that Massachusetts uses to stop beavers from clogging their culverts? Best idea out there, multiple videos of it on Post 10's channel. If the water overflows, it acts as a spillway. That way you don't have to worry about the way the beavers are blocking your fence like devices with the square gaps.

you just need a good beaver trapper ,it will never stop
@BarrettFarms
@BarrettFarms Год назад
True, although beavers will sometime move on if they get tired of being messed with, its rare. Trapping is about the only way to really address them.
@carriemcconnell8786
@carriemcconnell8786 Год назад
I was watching one of your older videos where a commenter asked why the beaver didn't reuse the materials. It is believed that even though it's there, the beavers think those materials are defective since they didn't hold the dam so they won't reuse it.
@BarrettFarms
@BarrettFarms Год назад
Beavers certainly don't cut corners. They seem to have their process they follow for sourcing and storing food and supplies and don't deviate from it just to save a little time. They are also quite intelligent and very cautious of things humans do like setting traps and piling up sticks.

May I suggest you use something like a magnet fishing hook( or something like it) tied to rope to pull leaves out that you can't reach. Possibly add some weight to loosen dirt. I am sure on the farm you have something to rig up👍 Well done on all the work you have done

If people would only understand that if you put Culver’s in a wooded location that there would be potential for leaves and sticks to block the path of the water flow through it or possibilities for a beaver to block it so prepare yourself for that situation
@bobh6728
@bobh6728 Год назад
How did that board get there? Looks like it was put there intentionally. Or maybe it just happened to get blown there.
@BarrettFarms
@BarrettFarms Год назад
My guess is intentionally put there by people who wanted to hunt one of the nearby fields and was intended to hold back water and flood a field. No biggie but the responsible thing to do is promptly remove it when the season is over. That usually doesn't happen.

You said it wasn't a beaver dam so how does mother nature pack the leaves and stick debris with mud after clogging it up with leaves ?
@BarrettFarms
@BarrettFarms Год назад
Not sure off hand without going back and watching but I would guess I was talking about one of the far west grates. Those are the two that a couple months ago that seemed like they were mainly clogging with debris in the water and the beavers didn't have to do much. I am sure they contributed a little but nothing like they do at the other dam sites. The colony has probably grown as the activity we see at all the locations is the work of beavers.

The beaver who has blocked the drain griddle will go in berserker rage. But the guy who has destroyed the beaver's dam will be congratulated. But there are three more drains to unclog. Difficult but not impossible.

Dad tells me we will have one on the farm soon. Personally, I would rather all culvert cleaning be done manually with the rake. The ditches definitely need some work the a backhoe will be a great help with.
