"Wow! Those detonations were absolutely awesome! You've got more energy than I do in a week. Much respect." I worked as a mechanic for a company decades ago that did seismic work in the oil field industry, and other things. One time they hired out to drill shot-holes in the floor of a rock pit so they could loosen up more rock to excavate. The floor of the pit was 100 feet below grade. I had to go out there and replace the starter on the shot-hole rig so they could get it started and drive it out of the pit. While I was doing that they got all the holes they had drilled packed with explosives and as the shot-hole rig was driven out of the pit they ran the wire that connected all the holes together up to the top out of the pit. So I hung around to watch what happened. When they set off the explosives you really could not hear it but felt it through your feet. I stood there and watched the floor of the pit, about the size of a football field, rise up into the air with part of it going about 300 feet into the air. I quickly rolled under my pickup to avoid being hit by rocks that flew over to where we had stationed ourselves at the rim of the pit. I think they used a little too much ammonia nitrate between the sticks of TNT in the holes.

I've watched professional blasters use just enough explosive to break the rock into manageable pieces for an excavator (Hi Dave!), but your method is much more fun and there's almost nothing left to clear up 😁

HI Jay!

Dave is very adaptable to situations, when demolishing near structures or people he is careful and uses little explosives. When he's sure he won't do any damage he works like this guy using lots of explosives. Demolishing with dynamite requires adapting to the situation. When you don't have digging machines nearby, the explosive not only breaks the rock but also displaces it

Watching you drill and blast the rock brought back memories of when I was a teenager and I would help my Dad to do the same thing. We used an air operated drill run by a gas compressor and would poke a hole in the end of the dynamite and insert the blasting cap. The cap was detonated by a fuse which we would have about 10 feet long. Light it and run. We were doing this to create a dam on a creek and had federal approval. Can't do that anymore. I still remember the sound as it went off. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.

That last blast was over done, but it was cool. You made what’s called a counterforce charge. Essentially it’s just explosive waves colliding and multiplying inside a hard target. You could’ve had a slightly better effect on the rock if you did not place a charge in the center. Also if you have detcord or blasting cap at the furthest out point. The wave will travel more effectively through the explosive and into the target.

I only recently found your channel and am enjoying them very much! It is very interesting seeing you at work and you are a hard worker. The footage of the rock being blown up was absolutely stunning. Perhaps because of my upbringing on a farm in Wales where certain trees and rocks act as landmarks and often from which the name of the field derives, I always feel a sense of sadness or longing when a large tree gets felled or a rock destroyed. Even though I know it has to be done and have helped to do so. I felt it with that rock too, even though I would do exactly the same thing. I wonder if anyone else feels that way. Perhaps it is a Welsh thing as we have a strong sense of 'hiraeth' (longing) even though we Welsh mined coal and slate in huge amounts!

After seeing just a few videos I wondered why there's only 54k subs when the content/editing, and Bjoernstroem are all great. The videos wouldn't need to be as long, or as finely tuned re: the editing, making it easier to produce more videos which would be more profitable for him. He should have 500k to 750k subs easy, but that's jmo.
