Welcome to doing some of the master trades work ;) shouldn't be anything put on the threads of those compression joints though, its the olive that makes the seal, not the thread, also if they turn the bath the other way around (which I probably would) the pipes are going to be in the way :) other than those minor things, it's not a bad job for a sparky, you didn't do the ritual properly though, we flush the toilet for sparkling water

Errrrmmmm so why not buy 2 new pipe slices and put your dad's old one somewhere safe before something happens to THAT !!!! And you don't put PTFE tape on a COMPRESSION olive as it seals when you COMPRESS the more malleable olive into the fitting 😉 👍♥️🇨🇮👍♥️🇨🇮👍♥️🇨🇮👍♥️🇨🇮👍

Don’t ever silicone round showers it’s in the installation manual some manufacturers including Triton and Mira it will void the warranty

The olive is the part that creates the seal and the PTFE tape just helps make the seal tighter

you use teflon on an compression fitting? normally that will leak.

What an opener Sir Nick. When I first saw those shower water heaters on your channel I was like WTF. Not a thing in Australia either. We've always been gas hot water heater - I guess "boiler" - or electric off-peak and then instantaneous gas sometimes with storage tanks and of course solar hot water heating. Heat pumps for pool heating for years but more heat pump water heating now.

Great video and only one leak so better than some plumbers I know. We've started fitting Stiebel Eltron electric instant water heaters to small annexes rather than electric showers. That means the same unit can provide hot to sink, shower and kitchen. Plus you can use a regular shower unit which always looks smarter.

A mixer shower would have worked better than electric. Install a shower booster pump if it's low pressure. PTFE on the threads screams DiY. Always on the olive. Liquid PTFE or BossWhite/Blue is better still. You've inadvertandly added deadlegs to the water supply, with those tails and the stop end... can cause legionella, theoretically. The worst place for legionells is the shower, breathing in the fine water particiles (mist) is what causes it. Latest guidance tells us to remove any deadlegs that we find. Other than that, good 🚿 job

12:18 Teflon on a compresssion coupling ?? Totally not needeed . The olive makes it watertight ... it's called a compression fitting .. I used them a lot in the past ..never had one leak on me .. But now we use all Alupex ( plastic with aluminium inside MLC i guess much cheaper then copper tube ) also with compression fitting or crimp ( with tool ). Oh i"m also an electrician .. not a plumper :p

My grandad a retired spark with the hydro aka sse now, HATES! electric showers, so much so he offered to pay to replace mine with a mixer... doesn't trust them even with rcd protection and all the other protection now a days.

PTFE only goes on a thread for BSP taper threads. Compression fittings just need to be clean - no PTFE. You can whack some jointing compound on a compression fitting if you really must - LS-X etc.

My father was a plumber he said the thoughts of leaks used to wake him up

HW literally on tap yet goes for instantaneous shower.. hello poor flow rate and noticeably higher energy bill. Plumbers mate FTW.

It will work fine without PTFE. If u r at all worried then the olive is the only place u need PTFE

I'd have just used pushfit these days, I can easily solder but not much point for stuff like this.

No need for PTFE tape on any part of a compression fitting, especially the thread.

I always wondered so it's a legacy weird standard that just exists now that the UK has water heaters immersion boilers that are sealed and no longer an open issue with having separate hot and cold and water contamination.

That shower head is going to be "ABSOLUTELY WANK" An electric shower isn't suitable at all for that head. It will literally dribble out. That setup is best suited for a mixer shower.😢

Word of advice from an old knacker,when doing plumber crap on showers. done loads when the customer only wanted to pay one person. Take a cat litter tray with you,catches all the water. put the PTFE on olive,that's what seals it,not the thread. Nick can you do one where you add a lift pump to increase the water pressure?

Why on earth did you remove perfectly good plumbing and put that rubbish in. The previous water supply was sufficient to connect a shower mixer to and it would have had way more water pressure than that. I don't understand why on earth you guys are doing this over there. We only install those in remote buildings in the country where you can't plumb the hot water from the cylinder.
