I really, truly, don't even think we know, not the black community, not the music community, not the United States, and certainly not the world as a whole, just who & how much we lost when we lost George Duke! The level of musical commitment and the genius of this man CANNOT be overstated! Whenever I hear him doing what he so passionately loved to do, I feel like God is near...and smiling! Brother, You are missed by so many!
Such a beautiful comment and eloquently said. He played with such understated elegance and could be @ home in any musical setting. We miss his music but thank The Good Lord that he allowed Mr. Duke to leave us with so many great albums, collaborations, (such as this stellar one with the irrepressible Kirk Whalum) and interviews! God bless the Duke family. Thank you and God bless you & all!
What a blessing. What a Blessing. What A Blessing! Thank you so much, George! Thank you. Thank you. I hope you are resting well in the arms of our loving Savior who loved you... Thank you for perfecting and offering life through your gift. With such humility... What greatness! Love you forever. Thank you also to Kirk Whalum for setting this up, and to all the precious musicians for making this unforgettable experience possible! Love you all!
History will forever remember you this way, Mr. Duke. Thank you for truly touching lives with your playing. Over all my years of playing keyboards, seeing people come and go, going through the different stages of life, this work of art remains one I continue to come back to. And I always, always leave teary-eyed and inspired to keep going. Thank you. Just thank you. 🤍
After having gone through a very painful separation last year in which my daughter was temporarily taken away from me -- which undeniably was a life-changing year for many -- hearing this song makes me realize that one of the best moments in my life was when I was able to make her love George Duke's music and songs when we were still together. You're in the Good Lord's kingdom now, Mr. Duke, and keep playing those lovely piano tunes with the angels.
George Duke is TRULY one of the greatest musicians of all time. I can't stop crying. That composition was so beautiful and touching. I have a feeling that it was dedicated to his wife, who died of cancer not long ago.
Amazing how this talented pianist can make a grown man weep......sending Holy Ghost chills....still in 2020..... R.I.P. George Duke....you're so loved beyond words, brother.....
On this day the preacher was George Duke on the piano. I miss him so, what a loss to the Jazz world. This is what real jazz sounds like, it stirs your soul and thank God for having the ability to hear it.
@Mr Armstrong, hearing George Duke play like that brought me to tears. He stirred my soul. Felt as though I was in church all through music. Thankful to have heard this today. Serious Love.
I'm a grown adult man. Stong. Director of people. I give strength and encouragement to as many as I see. But I weep as baby, listening to this soul-moving music. I cry. Not for George, because he did his job ! I cry for the spiritual connection I feel to God, when I hear this gripping soulful spirit touching communion with God Almighty, Almighty God. Thank you George.
@ John, thank you for echoing my thoughts. This composition went beyond what man could bring to the table. The message is for every heart, God doesn't love us because of how much we have or how much we can give Him. His love for you and I are without price. George did what he was called to do that day; His heart and focus was towards God, its like being privy to a personal conversation and the people were more than blessed.
The incomparable George Duke! You can sense his heart as he turned this love song into a worship expression to God. What these fellas did together on Kirk’s records cannot be replicated. They brought jazz back to church and then showed the world something different
This is the very reason why I am a Musician today. George Duke's artistry is GOD Made. This is just Beautiful! Play for Our Father In Heaven Face to Face George!!
I find myself always coming back to this video and every time I watch this I end up crying. Every single time. When musicians work on their craft and surrender it back to God, the impact they leave on earth is unimaginable.
George Duke getting all classical on us. And so soulful at the same time. I listen to this again and again each time, in tears at the second or third hearing.
I cry everytime I watch this video; the genius, the mastery, the team, the combined gifts necessary to even make this happen! Then I'm overcomed with gratitude, because I know that it's a tribute to the Lord, and He makes miracles happen! You are so missed George Duke.
257 dislikes???? Clearly, your ears and eyes are malfunctioning. George went in so deep, even he was in tears... George, your music will be forever impactful... #Salute
Fantastic Music ministry,Of Jazz Being EXALTED AMONG THOSE WHO ?FELLS THE GRACE OF GOD'S GLORY, EVERYONE CAN'T RELATE TO THE SPIRIT OF GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT, THAT'S UNKNOWN to Some And A Blessing To Other, Through Out the Whole world 🌎 With faithfulness Obeadance And Truth In the Will of Gods "grace"Amen.
One of my favorite songwriters wrote this song. Diane Warren. It is amazing how you can write a song and can turn out to have more than one meaning. She said in a interview, that she wrote this song about her father. Her father told her to follow her dream on being a songwriter. Her mother on the other hand was thinking about her career in more of a practical way. You know, playing it safe when it comes to making a living. Celine Dion was the first one to record the song back in 1996. I wonder if Miss Warren ever dream that a master musician like Mr. George Duke would take her song and take it to a level beyond this universe. He was telling God with his fingers that he is everything he is because he loved him. Amen Amen and Amen. R.I.P. Mr. Duke.
Roger Cook thank you soooooo much for this message, education about Ms. Warren, reminder to do what makes your heart sing and confirmation about the immeasurable depth and breath of Love.
George Duke connects to an audience in an incredibly powerful way, yet it's never the cheap victory, he wins them with pure musicality. He showed them something in music they didn't know was there, not by showboating, but finding the purest notes that connect straight to the heart. It's nice to hear him on piano here, he's usually the funk master of the Rhodes. RIP great one
TO GOD BE THE GLORY , MR. DUKE TRULY HAD AND WAS A GIFT FROM GOD. I too can listen to this over and over and truly communicate with God and worship in spirit and truth. For those who cannot relate to the song, Accept and get to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you will learn what true un-condtional love is.Thanks E. Neves for posting this performance.
C'est magnifiquement jouė avec une telle émotion que la mėlodie vous transporte dans des cieux fėérique , on est au paradis!!!!! Quelle émotion!!!! C'est magique et superbe! Merci pour ce moment !!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷😘
August 6, 2013 we lost a Great one. Mr. George Duke. I am listing to this song he covered for the very first time. One of my favorite songwriters, Diane Warren, wrote this song. I know she probably never dreamed someone as Great as George Duke could make it sound so beautiful as a instrumental. Thank you Miss Warren and thank you Mr. Duke
Watching Kirk Whalum at the beginning, while George Duke is speaking through his piano solo... I would stand there for hours until George finished talking, happily. It is really a special gift to anyone to see a soul such as his through music.
Whoever tuned that piano needs a medal. Classical pianos get even tempered but this is tuned to a key centre - George and the audience know it and he's truly inspired to his greatest recorded performance. I cried tears of joy and pain throughout. I praise your lord, and know that I will find mine again. I will spread kindness because of your music today. Thank you Mr. Duke and all the musicians and that beautiful audience for their pure joy and love that they gave part to me. Peace, and bravery to my father and everyone in a dark place today.. Sincere love for posting, amen.
MY GOD!!!!!!! WE HAVE JUST WITNESSED A ONE OF LIFETIME EXPERIENCE! The Absolute Master, The INCOMPARABLE GEORGE DUKE! You will never witness this level of MUSICIANSHIP EVER AGAIN! RIP my friend! !
I am not much but I am every thing every little thing I am because ....only because you loved me💯🤍 Mr George Duke every body.....THE DUKE HIMSELF....Round of applause!......RIP now that you are the Duke of Angels! Much love....
I had the chance to see George at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Never have I meet a kinder man. He has been such an inspiration for me and I love him dearly.
On August 6, 2013 we lost a Great One. I was fortunate to grow up in the era of George Duke. I remember the projects he used to do with Stanley Clark. The way he plays that piano, you can not teach that. Need I say that again? THE WAY HE PLAYS THAT PIANO, YOU CAN NOT TEACH THAT. That is a God giving talent. One of my all time favorite songwriters wrote this song. (Diane Warren}. I know when she wrote it, she had no idea a legend like Mr. Duke would take it to heights she couldn't have even imagine. My Lord My Lord My Lord. R. I. P. my brother in Christ.
Viewed this upon hearing of the passing of George Duke today. This beautiful tune, as well as all of his musical contributions, will be his lasting legacy. God bless you, George, and rest in peace.
I just saw this video for the first time 2 days ago. George Duke was "preaching" through the Keys!!! What an anointed, "out-of-this-world" talent George Duke was. I love seeing and hearing world class musicians worshipping God with their talents that He gave them!!!!! Praise God
Having followed George throughout his career I was always amazed by his diversity and how he recognized quality in everything that he touched. Although he is sorely missed and gone way too soon, he has left us with the blessing of his touch forever.
I believe this was just after George's wife had passed.. he played it for her. One of my fave keyboard players George was such a sweet player, such feel and touch. Greatly missed. Fly free George.
The music tells God what we can't put into words...I'm so grateful to Him...all I can do is cry out of gratitude...God was speaking through George's piano that night...thank you God for experiencing your power through all of them.
This song speaks to the heart and soul of those who have ears to hear, hear the seer spiritual content of its message. Indeed no vocals are necessary; for the Lord is the lyrics! Thank you Abba Father for sharing this "Divine Gift" (if only for a short time) which we have come to know as George Duke...and thank you George Duke for legacy of great music that you left us...Rest in the Perfect Peace of the one who gifted you...Because He Loved You.......Selah
+bladejms If I had a replay button in my soul, I would continue to push it all day long just to hear this song play over and over again. Oh Lord, indeed I am everything that I am...Because You Loved Me, in spite of my failings...Hallelujah!
As I watch this at the brink of tears and see those people in the audience I can't help but think those lucky souls who were so blessed to be able to be there in person on that day to hear the live performance. Life- changing I'm sure!
i was so blessed to have been in the balcony of this show and so blessed to have found that someone posted it online to remember. of all the duke's shows, clubs, concerts, arenas, etc. i may have been at, nothing was like the moment george gave props to the "one" at the end of this beautiful piece.. thank you elielson neves for making this available online!!!
I do not want regrets in my life, but not seeing George Duke live in concert has to be one of them. This man was so special in so many ways. RIP George
It's the love of God that shine in his music George D you are truly going to be missed Rest now your journey has ended.. God bless your children as they miss both you ant their mother
This was an absolute masterpiece by true masters at work... .im a musician myself ...always listening with eyes and ears open to new chord progressions ...and ...and ..and This was the only time my eyes were opened for a different reason than it useally is ...This time because it was crying ..😪😪😪😪 This masterpiece by the late George Duke , is God' s poetry to mankind ...In and through it , God is ETERNALLY saying to mankind ...I LOVE YOU 🌹🙏🙏😪😪😪
I echo all of those positive comments on this magnificent playing by all, but certainly and most importantly, George Duke. George was clearly inspired by the Holy Spirit in his playing. I love how Kirk Whalum just watches and marvels at the crazy great playing by George. Thank you George for your amazing talent, but thank you most of all that on this day, YOU immersed your playing with the Holy Spirit, and the results were a once in a lifetime performance with an audience completely tuned in to what God was saying and doing! May God truly rest your soul. For those of you that chose to respond negatively to this performance, I can only say that one day, I truly hope you will come to understand and revere what was really going on in this video.
The passing of the late George Duke was a huge loss to music. He will always be forever in my heart on that keyboard along with my late father xx RIP to you both.
THIS VERSION OF BECAUSE YOU LOVE ME.... TOTALLY GREAT THIS IS THE MUSIC I GREW UP ON, LIVING WITH MY GRANDPARENTS I EXPERIENCED THE WHOLE JAZZ EFFECT OF MUSIC,FROM GREATS LIKE COUNT BASSIE,GROVER WASHINGTON, ETC TIMELESS MUSIC ALWAYS.......
I had the huge chance to see him live in Paris in 1984 playing with Stanley Clarke and Philip Bailey (last song with Ray Parker Jr.). I was 15. I will never forget it.
I have listened to this so many times over the years. And now, on a Sunday morning, I find myself listening to this on repeat as I prepare to preach in a little while. What a blessing! Thank you for uploading.
I feel so blessed that I had a chance to met him... to drink a glass of wine and spoke with him about music and life.. many many years ago when I was young musician and heard his music for the first time he became a major figure in my evolution as musician... R I P maestro!
Oh...I will cry . May be he is god of music ,what a Marvelous sound ,makes me happy,I am so impressed. My heart was filled happiness.I am just a Japanese old man.But lucky to could know him.

Rest in peace to the Legendary George Duke. This was tear jerking. That guy was such a great and soulful player. Great job by Kirk Whalum on saxophone.
