George Duke Band Montreux 1997 Musicians: George Duke - keyboards, vocals Rachelle Ferrell - vocals Jonathan Butler - guitars, vocals Brian Simpson - keyboards Mino Cinelu - percussion Larry Kimpel - bass Lil John Roberts - drums
The industry doesn't matter... She knows where she can get all the props she wants. The quality artist have always been the most talented And often overlooked 🤩😁👍🏿
What I find so disgusting, is that in the past female singers with talent could become famous even if they were unattractive women, like Aretha Franklin. Nowadays with "feminism", they have to be attractive and ready to take off at least most of their clothes. Like before women were held to the same standards as men regarding violence. Now it is only one sided and women are held to a level of responsibility not far from that of children. Shows how we have gone back quite a bit.
To reply to your comment Carletta I am so disappointed in the industry for not giving Rachelle Ferrell her props her the way she sings her range, scatting, pitch, and just still keeping it in the pocket. And to see Uncle George Duke and his niece And the George duke band and in that very band we're referring to his friends, his associates. What a blessing.
Somewhere Rachelle is sitting on her back porch mimicking the sounds of nature.. Birds singing, water running, rocks falling, trees swaying, bees buzzing.. She's just so intrinsic!
This is exactly how she learned her voice as a child. She got her first piano at 10 and was professional by age 12. Child prodigy pianist. In an interview, she said she mimicked birds, wind, trains, horns, church bells.
My number one female artist. OMGoodness her live performance 👏 she took the title in Cleveland when she sang her part and Will Downing's part. Her range is unmatched
Rachelle Ferrell is the 8th wonder of the world. She is the greatest female vocalist of all time, period. Along with Bobby McFerrin being the greatest male vocalist of all time.
Brother I will not disagree with you,, but you forgot the first one,,,, ELLA FITZGERALD.. listen to all of her music,, before you forget about her.. much love
Rachelle Ferrel is one of my Most Favorite vocalist! She has mastered her gift! Whatever her soul hears and feels she can duplicate it with her voice with unmatched precision. The work she has put into her craft has produced an incredible instrument with arms and legs! What a gift from the Most High!
She's so darn emotive! She hits a note or a sound and just goes with it to define the feeling. She's an interpreter. The play she did with that drummer was 🔥
this is exactly how i feel about her aswell, most singers it's like they're going through the motion but i don't really believe what they're singing literally nor emotively but with ferrell it's entirely authentic, honest and conveyed in the expression physically and verbally.
Yes..... this is one of the most awesome trio of performers that I was blessed to see perform live and Al Jarreau shared the stage too. One of the best concerts I've ever attended in my life.
I have a five-octave voice and with complete control and comfort in my whistle register--and I just sat and watched this entire performance with my mouth agape. I can't even know what to say about this lady's instrument. #Dead.
This Artist CHANGED MY LIFE! I was introduced to Her Instrument in a studio at a Friend’s home- the song was: “I Know You Love Me.” She held a note across FOURTEEN bar lines- and still had breath control to ad lib out at the end of it! I was never the same as a Vocal Instrument after witnessing that!😇🙌🏾👊🏾💪🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👑❤️🖤💚☯️💟☮️⚡️
Ive watched this video over and over never tire of it. The performance is so authentic and George and the band are master craftmen. This type of artistry ain't for everyone, and that's okay. Thats what makes us unique. Do love this woman though!!!!
I just gotta say, George, is who he will always be, but the performance by Rachelle, magnificent! The combo of these two musical dynamics, pure genius.
She's George Duke's goddaughter...i think! Met them both backstage at Club Bene in Sayreville, NJ years ago. Still so sad about his passing. Hw was and remains my all time favorite musician. Burn those keys up everytime he touched them. There will never be another!
Yes lord. U can't stay upset over a broken heart for long listening to her. She brings u-on-OUT! Reminds us its going to be alright. That's some healing under 20 mins. Patent Girl. 😅
She makes me love her.....She makes me laugh high sometimes with her amazing mouth.....But OFTEN she makes me cry for her sensibility and virtuosity and beauty and voice and soul for the music. She's THE ONE. The world have amazing singers....But JUST ONE Rachelle Farrel.
When she asked "can we get a little bit funky, up in here, for a minute"??, I about hit the floor! You go girl!! AND OF COURSE, all the other masters too!! RIP Mr George.
No one has mastered circular breathing as astutely as Ms. Rachelle Ferrell. I'm happy to had the opportunity to see her over 15 times starting way back in 1992.
Impeccable..there’s no other words. Her voice is off the charts! Have loved her for decades. Untouchable! And look at those legends paying that bad ass music....Duke, Jonathan...lawd have mercy!
Rachelle just snatched my soul right out of my spirit 🙆 Yeah, I said it and I know it doesn't make sense, but nither does how she works that instrument of a body God has borned her with😊 More than outstanding, exquisite doesn't even come close to this womans ability to create and live inside of music 💕💕
I was fortunate enough to see Rachelle live it was a spiritual experience. She is absolutely the best vocalist. And omg, I just realized Jonathan Butler is playing with George Duke, WOW
Miss you so much GD. Thank GOD for technology, cuz we may not have been there, but the SPIRIT that was up in that place for this!!! Rachele and GD at their freakin best!! And the $hit at 12:00 is stupid cray cray. Like I've said many times before, she ain't from here...
GOOD GOD!!! MY GOD!!!! BLESSED US AND SENT ONE OF THE ANGELS DOWN TO SING!!! You hear George doing his thing on the keyboard!! This brought the sunshine for today!!!
Still praying for the day that I will be blessed to see this great Sistah in concert!! Been loving her music for the last 25 years or so; "inherited" her first cassette from my big sis, the beautiful, late & great Rita Daniels-Brown!! Continue to RIHP Rita & the late & great jazz pianist, Mr.George Duke ( on piano)!! 🙏 🎹
Saw her in concert in Cleveland + have never gotten her out of my system . . Why should I. . She's so smooth + sensual + versatile Truly, a musical genius 🎼🎶🎙❤
Great example of why we love other humans!!! I saw someone say Miss Farrell is in a class of her own....agreed - she occupies her own space in the special-sphere where special people exist....angel vocalist...and yes - i also agree - she crawls all up in your soul ----
This is one of my favorite songs. Im only 39. This is one of those songs that paints mental visuals in the creation of mood setting (not meaning sexual, but it fits as well). There aren't many songs in the times of today where the creative process of sound, melody and lyrical are made to compliment one another, enhancing the feel of the song.
Will never forget when I saw them both at Club Bene in Sayreville, NJ decades ago. Went backstage and met them both. George was such a teddy bear. Told him my sister was a keyboardist too; he told me to send him her tape. I miss him so very much! He is and will always be my all time favorite musician; the baddest keyboardist EVER! And Miss Ferrell...what is there to say about her that her voice will not tell you! AWESOME! She's his goddaughter...I think that's what she told me when I saw her. Don't get me started on the so called artists today, who have all the fame and money and none of the talent!
@@lywnnjohnson6130 WOW! Thanks for your reply! As you can see, I posted this 4 years ago. When George died, I cried like he was a family member! The greatest!! Sorely missed!
You have to appreciate her voice. It's everything that is beautiful, natural and original. Every not that she hits can take to you to a different place. Rachelle can't be compared to anyone else and no other singer can copy that style.
This is Great ! the Master Pianist George Duke, Queen of all voices Rachelle Ferrell and one of the greatest guitarist and vocalist Jonathan, Awesome Trio!!!
There might not be a better singer in America than Rachelle Ferrell. Hearing her sing is like listening to a song played on a Stradivarius violin or a Bösendorfer piano or a Bach trumpet. But the greatness of what you hear resides almost entirely in the magnificence of those perfectly-engineered components in the hands of a brilliant and consummate artist and technician. She lives inside the music she shares and warmly welcomes each listener to visit every single corner of her talent and to revel and rejoice in the experience.
This definitely worth listening to over and over and over and over again. Fulfills the pallet of my ears and reminds of the love I wish to share with a man.
Saw her Al , & George in driving rain storm. In Va. Years ago. They were taking request from the audience. It was a thrill of my lifetime.. RIP Al & George
l like the way she contorts her face so as to make sure that the music outcome reaches all the intended frequencies. Rachelle Ferrel is one of a kind and in this particular stage with George Duke she was very happy, confident and she lets her music hang out. l have watched numerous videos of hers but this one is by far one of her best performances. Will certainly pay $1000 plus easily to be at her stage - if only we could rewind the times.
Good Lawd!! This Woman is Incredible!! These young singers need to listen to her vocal tone, pitch, delivery, passion, range and creative genius. God has truly given this woman a gift!! WOW!!❤
Deep music. Brings goosebumps to my soul.. and George duke on the keys with those chords kills me.. i wish more people could be blessed to understand this music.
This was a outstanding part of this concert series that I truly loved everybody brought their AAA Game to the table. But Rachelle Ferrel took it to the highest level of music in her real red hot vocal skills in a jazz spread of quality greatness. Her Microphone techniques are so great on this showcase. Young artist and producers should take notes from this video and this outstanding artist of excellence. Dunmore Music of Monee IL.
God gave her a unique gift and she uses it to perfection TO my musical brother George Duke rest on my brother you have done marvelous you left us tons of musical memories these two makes you wanta listen because you never know what's next
Ol George. God must be Funkin up there!! And Johnathan Butler is GROOVIN too!! Rachelle Ferrel is the Female version of Al Jarreau. Not that she is not as talented, but since the 50's skatting wasn't part of OUR modern music, BUT she brought that art form to a whole new dimension. Beautiful. Anyone that has never been to the Jazz, or rather Music Mecca, you need to go one time in their live to Montreux. Living in Germany makes things a bit easier, but it is worth the expense. Music is EVERYWHERE to see and hear. Famous people are all around you. I was at the Jam Session and was talking to Joe Sample, and Herbie Hankock was 2 FEET away!! That was CRAZY!! And the after show Jam Session is the SHIT!! They be tearin it up. Thanks for uploading this tasty tidbit. Peace
The INCREDIBLE Ensemble of Musicians aside, Rachel Ferrell is on a whole different level sonically. Her control is something else, captures the audience! Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
