I saw Beck in a theatre in Vancouver in like 2008. Midway through the show - which had already been awesome up to that point - he says he's going to do some acoustic numbers and let the band rest. They set up a table and the band sat at it while Beck played some songs solo in a spotlight, with the band eating at the table in the background. A waiter would show up occasionally to fill water glasses and serve food to the band as Beck played. About 3 songs in, it starts to get obvious that there are taps and clinks on water glasses that play into the songs that Beck is playing. It was cool as hell. Then they go full-on into this Clap Hands routine, with Beck on guitar and vocals while the band is rocking at the dinner table behind him. I've been to a LOT of shows. Like, a lot. This was just one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Even to this day, that Vancouver show is one of the best concerts I've ever attended.
this is an old comment lol, but i happened across this and remember having the same sentiment. recently heard in an interview kanye said he had actually never heard beck at the time he pulled that shit, and has since heard him, and liked him a lot, and apologized to him personally... apparently beck thought the whole experience was hilarious lol
It's pretty hard to perfectly play a song live... It's pretty nerve wracking... But all in all, Beck is the most outstanding musician. Thanks for the upload :)

I like the performance just as it is, it's perfect just like that for me! What I said wasn't like a critique, I know nothing about playing a guitar, so I only noticed that note and thought Beck's reaction quite funny. I didn't mean for it to sound like a bad thing... cause I love Beck's music and respect him so much :)
Beck's father is a very important producer and he has produced some of his son's records. While Beck is pretty talented you have to ask if he could be making the music he does with the relative level of fame he has if he hadn't had the family legacy. There is an accidental element to all stories of fame. Harrison Ford was chosen to be Han Solo because he was Lucas' carpenter and personal friend
The guy who gets a close-up at 0:10 is Matt Mahaffey of the band Self. His music is even better than Beck’s. Check out the Self songs “Wednesday Again,” “Cinderblocks for Shoes,” “Kill the Barflies,” “End of it All,” “Ordinaire,” and…actually, just listen to all of it.😄
