But the point of a cover is that it is different from the original

Nateothegreateo I understand that, but she didn't seem to get into the song and feel the emotion of the lyrics until she was getting through what would usually be the first verse of the song. The part she started with didn't really hit home for me.

Everyone's so caught up with the pronouns they discard a cover before they really experience it. It was smart to start at the chorus where there are no pronouns. It breaks the cycle of focusing on the lyrics instead of the voice.

Tory Rochat I'm glad someone sees where I'm coming from. I love Becky Hill. I was a big fan of her during her time on The Voice, I remember being pleasantly surprised seeing her perform with someone at Glastonbury last year as their vocalist (Chase & Status, or Nero, someone like that at least...). I also love the vocal work she's done on Afterglow and Gecko. This just didn't work as well as it could have. It's such an emotive song, starting from the chorus didn't seem to bring that soul out in her voice. The second time she hits the chorus (after the lead-in from the verse) she really seems to nail it.

Becky was smart to focus on features and songwriting. Otherwise she might've ended up like other contestants.

This song is very anti-church. "That's a fine looking stable, there's a lot of starving faithful". At the same time, "Take me to church" means "lets have sex".

Me too been giving her my support for four years. The album is scheduled for next year as i understand it. :)
