As a fifty year old ex hobbyist looking at the day when I'll have the time and space to get back into painting figurines , I'd like to say thank you to all the RU-vid creators who produces these sort of tutorials and other ''how to'' presentations. Paint technology and technics have moved on greatly in the last couple of decades , that much is clear. I watch as many as I have time for and they are often full of useful tips and pointers that would otherwise take years of costly mistakes to learn by myself. Thank you broadsword .

One trick for the airbrush method that I love is to add a bit of additional color to the shadows. So instead of simply using a darker blue I shift down hues on the color wheel, so to speak, to a dark purple instead. It really adds a bigger pop of contrast and interest. I do the same with all colors, more or less. For green I use blue shadows, for red I use brown shadows, for yellow I use orange shadows, etc.
@BroadswordWargaming

That's a great idea! I used a nice purple in this one, and I 100% agree with you. I love purple for red paints too!

Five ways to make blueberries! I know the Warhammer painting videos are the usual first way for most people to learn, you are absolutely right that it's not very time effective. Easy, but very time consuming. Airbrush All-In is my go to as well. Oils just make the airbrush work pop so much.

This video made me realise that we all have our own style, right!? There is no "right way" to paint. Just find what works for you. I'm with you, though. Airbrush is a rather useful tool.

I used to collect about 25ish years ago. I wasn’t particularly creative and the painting was really hard for me. Approaching 40 now and I’m considering getting back into the hobby and these vids are invaluable! I wish they were available when I was younger but I’m sure they will help a ton of new and old hobbyists.

drybrushing fenrissian grey right after the macragge does the highlights for me a lot faster, and ends up with a bit more of a blend, gets slightly closer to the eavy metal look

Firstly, I'd like to say thanks for the video - it's great to see a comparison of the different methods using the same kind of paints but different techniques to see the variation they achieve. Secondly, I would say that for the slap chop, the initial base coating was unfortunately quite blocky and chalky looking and subsequently the whole model has that grainy effect base coat once the blue is applied. Also, on this front, I would say that more dry brushing would have to be done to build and smooth blend those layer tones - but still good to see your results. Thirdly, and this is no reflection on your painting skills (you're both very adept), but I personally really dislike that gunky oil method you showed us on the first miniature. I don't think it adds much to the mini that a subtle or careful wash (or recess wash) couldn't achieve. Lastly, my favourite look out of all them is the standard Games Workshop method with the edge highlighting. But I do like the smoothness of the airbrushing used also. I think if you apply multiple methods you'd have the perfect mini, some airbrushing to base coat, dry brushing to build layers and then standard painting other layers or small details, with the edge highlighting.
