Automotive body and glass repairers restore, refinish, and replace vehicle bodies and frames, windshields, and window glass.
Auto body technicians can’t wipe away the memory of a fender bender, but they can make your car look better. They are responsible for repairing the vehicle body. They work in auto body repair shops at dealerships, independent repair centers or fleet workshops and carry out a range of repairs, from hammering out minor dents to windshield replacement and complete rebuilds. When not repairing collision damage, technicians work on body customization or minor repairs, such as buffing out scratches or refurbishing corrosion damage. Auto body technicians often work directly with customers, reviewing damage reports and preparing cost estimates.

Okay as a body tech who is ase/Icar gold certified. I wanna thank you for posting this video. Also as a tech I'd like to point somethings out form my point of view. I work for the 3rd biggest body shop in the nation. there is a heavy demand for techs at all times. People like to crash cars. 2nd the pay, I've been hourly/salary and I've been flat rate (commission) you make WAY more on commission than the numbers you have in the video. 3rd your don't need trade school. For this trade you are better off joining the work force as Detailer at a body shop, from there you can ask to become a painters helper or a body man helper. The trade shools don't prepare you for the beast that is insurance body work. You got a 4 hour dent? Fix it in 2. Got a 16 hour job? Try to do it in 8hours, you still make 16 hours. Trade schools don't teach this as it's what most shops want out of a tech. 80-100 book hours a week. I've seen most people out of tech schools fail around 90% of them. Just my 2 penny's any questions I'm more than willing to answer

I don’t know which trade school have you gone through but in Canada you better be a little bit hands on or else you won’t make it past 2nd year apprentice. I work in the private world in my first 4 years til I became a journeyman. That was 15 years ago now I work for the government maintaining buses.

@@gunsandsilver I used to work flat rate too so I get what yoyr saying but on the other side flat rate isn't good since too many people hack the sh!t ton of jobs lol. I I were tohire someone it better have atleast a ticket or he wont make it.Too many wannabes this time even a bodyman can't mix putty right making hard for preppers to fix their pinholes. @Agustaf4 yes sirrr!! Got me upset that I didn't choose Auto Body and paint instead of getting my CDL over 21 years ago. But he explained that it depends on how the pay structure is setup. He also said that a lot of dealerships won't pay you like that in the beginning, because of experience. It can be done. Bit it depends on the painter. Because his coworker was a bullshitter and probably didn't make half of that. Luckily their dealership is layed back.

@@jamfd3s788 In this industry you don’t have to go to school. You can work somewhere as an apprentice and work your way up but I see it differently. I think guys should go to school for this because you’ll get paid more if you have certain certifications. Like I-Car and ASE certifications. While in school I think guys should do an apprenticeship if they can though. It makes your resume look better and you can demand more pay if you have experience to go along with the certifications. You are way off on pay, and ill explain why. While some shops are hourly, many pay 'flat rate'. That means we get paid by the job. If a job pays 10 hours but we finish it in 5, we get paid 10 hours. Therefore, top guys with lots of experience and drive can make over 100k a year. Id guess average pay is 70 to 80k, with a huge difference between new techs and top techs. The downside is that flatrate gets no ovetime.

I spent 50 years in that industry it is the most unrewarding and unhealthy job out there you need to know 5 trades condensed into one and the pay doesn't come close to making it worthwhile, the guys you will spend time with usually have no tools and own an old bicycle they expect to use your tools and most are illiterate the customers don't care how well you fix their car because now it is not a virgin anymore what you do get is negative feedback from the boss who is always pushing you. Do yourself a favour and get a job as a waiter or anything else, the only advantage I can think of is you can always find work because no intelligent individual would work in these places..

Your info is off tech can make well over a 100k a year. Tech mostly work flat rate commission .i good tech will invest from 15k to 50k in (( their )) own tools and will be up dating yearly as needed and as the industry changes. Average age of a first class tech in the collision repair trade is 50+years old their is a huge demand for young people to get in the trade .it take about 3 to 5 years if you work under a average tech to get where they cane start to brake the 50k mark and if they get into a true apprenticeship program they can get to 50+ in that 2 year mark if they have drive and good work ethic.just some insight.35+ years in the industry and have worked in all fascists in the trade and was blessed with a awesome Dad an several of his friends that taught me the trade .
