People are leaving the automotive industry. I'm an auto tech, I was excited to get into this field. Love cars, and went to trade school for it..imo automotive is on the bottom of the trades list, dead last. You have to buy thousands in tools. You either work in a high strung flat rate shop, trying not to lose your ass on jobs, or work at a small independent where they want to pay you 16/hr with no benefits, have certs, do everything, work saturdays, most small shops are janky, lacking equipment, not ran well and you will often find you have to put up with bad management. you are often treated like you are replaceable, even though you are in demand...also if working on cars is your hobby, it wont be anymore. You will not want to work on a project car after a long hard week of working on everyone else's cars. My honest opinion, get into another trade, something else. Do research and find out what seems to be the most rewarding. In the automotive field you will be treated like a peice of equipment. That's just how it is.
This is a bad video, flat rate is the majority of the pay scale, through-out the country. Thiers alot of stress and negative aspects of this job. Please fix this video
let videos like this mislead you! This field sucks! Your brain can figure out the problem. Yes that’s true. You figured it out, now take it apart! Oh! You need a new tool to do it? $100+ dollars, for a set that’s not sold in stores? What about when you cut your self on sheet metal because air tools don’t fit? Don’t forget that bolts get seized up or someone worked on it before you! Acetylene and specialty extraction sets now become necessary. Another $1000 easily!
@@robcrossan6274 How is it going now as a mechanic? I'm actually going to start school soon to become a certified mechanic or auto technician whatever they call it now.
@@thebestofthebestsir47 I'm still a mechanic, but as of 2022 found a much better shop to work at. I like it. Sometimes it can be frustrating or overwhelming. But if you truly enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together, diagnosing things, providing a good service...then you will enjoy it. Plus I love tools...that is another part of it. It's all about environment and how your coworkers attitudes are. Bad attitudes and bad management are the main reasons for unhappiness while at work...sometimes it takes a few shops to find one that fits. And it may not be the highest paying but will be the one the fits.
@@robcrossan6274 okay thank you I appreciate your feedback I don't know why I didn't get a notification about the response but I actually start April 11th and I'm excited.
