Love this! Joel Salatin's concepts are amazing & also what triggered me enough to get up & quit waiting to start our life as new farmers at 46yrs old. We are literally just beginning & want to become self-sustaining. We have the land, just studying & studying to take the leap into the animals. Thank you for sharing & for your 7step plan video. Look forward to following your adventure
Thank you very much! Congratulations on starting your own journey to small farming. Keep me updated on how it goes for you! Also, I want to invite you to my next Live Small Farmer meet. Here is a link for more info: harmonyfarms.blog/meet-farmers/ -the Shepherdess
Your videos are very encouraging to our family of 7 right now, just starting out on our homestead with 13 chickens and 8 rabbits. But when I saw the scripture you had posted in your “about” page: “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” II Corinthians 9:8 NKJV … I nearly did a backwards somersault!! This is the exact scripture the Lord gave me the other night when I was asking Him for confirmation and about why He brought us to this farm and how to move forward with little income and no certainty. I have some sure direction now!! God bless you, from Nova Scotia Canada!!!!
No way!! We just moved our young family into a camper onto 28 acres and started farming from scratch! We've stored everything in a shipping container, but one of 8 books I insisted on keeping on hand was Salad Bar Beef! I'm happy to have found a soul sister on this crazy journey!
Country view acres sent me over! Cant wait to watch your channel and see you grow over time. If/whenever you do get your first tractor I hope she’s a red one 😝. Best of luck and I’ll be tuning in!
Your channel is so encouraging! We started breeding sheep when we could not get our freeder rams processed due to COVID. Joel Salatin writes very compelling books.
THANK YOU. Your comment means so much! Agreed on the Salatin books, he convinced this marketer that she could farm. Keep me updated on your sheep journey! -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
Love hearing the lessons that you learned, makes it so we don't have to learn them ourselves! Thanks for taking the leap and sharing and teaching us. :)
Incredible video!!! Inspiring story!!! 🙌🏻 Keep up the FABULOUS work!!!! "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:17
Have you looked up the TAMU extension? They have classes on grasses and forages, along with many other classes. Your spot on with grass being your resource and livestock as your end product. Run out of resource and your final product will not be finished.
An impressive accomplishment in such a short time with no experience! Looking forward to seeing more. Evan from Country View Acres recommended your channel. :)
The dorpers are nice but u should throw some finn ewes in there, they produce 4 lambs at a time. And u can breed the wool out of them in a few generations and still retain the 4 lambs per ewe reproduction. Really a game changer
CARBON IS THE KEY TO ANY LAND.!!!! This is my opinion and i am sticking to it.!!!!!!!!!! Watch Carbon Cowboys on Utube. You may learn something that some generations overlooked.. Hope this goes well for you..
Your content is so informative and I really align with what you're saying. I'm from a big city but moved to Memphis 7 years ago and with the ways everything is going I would like to start a small farm to teach my kids work and give them a life I wasn't given. What would be the best book you'd recommend to learn about ranching/farming?
Hi Alex! Thank you for your message. I have the 6 books that influenced me as a beginner right here: harmonyfarms.blog/product-category/the-shepherdess-merch/
Hey. Looks like a very interesting channel. Evan from Country View Acres sent me! I think what you are doing is great. If I had found Joel Salatin when I was younger, my life would have probably gone on a different trajectory. Check out Just A Few Acres Farm if you haven't. Pete is great.,
Thank you so much for commenting! I have been enjoying Pete’s videos for several months. 🙌🏻 He gave me some courage when I found out he also went from desk job to farming. He’s a gold mine of info. -the Shepherdess🐑🌱
I have a video coming in that! While I gained bits from each I showed here, I didn’t read all of them cover to cover. Salad Bar Beef is my top recommendation! It’s available to purchase at www.HarmonyFarms.blog if you are interested 👍🏻 -the Shepherdess
Personally. Cows were never attractive to me in terms of raising etc. I prefer smaller animals like sheep, goats, pigs etc. What drew you to the type sheep breed you have now compared to others? Thanks 🙏🏾
I have heard you can milk pretty much any sheep, so long as she isn’t overly taxed with the offspring she is nursing. That said, I have not researched the topic extensively, so I’d recommend asking professor Google 😄. -the Shepherdess
I wanted to ask would it be doable to lease or rent land? I do not have the funds at the moment for a home with land in Covington Ga. Space has become pretty limited anyway. Godbless Shepherdess
Yes! I am running on lease land right now and do not own anything. Use the app "onX Hunt" to find contact info for land owners in your area. I think you'll find the land you need quickly enough!
