It’s my first time in Mexico. I came here to gain new perspective on what it means to love, what it means to live, and what it means to die. A day comes and we are born. A day comes and we die. And so much happens in between...
This country-Mexico City in particular, and its people are teaching me how it’s possible to celebrate death as a part of life. Yes there is immense grief and sadness in death but it doesn’t have to be something to fear. Freedom can be found in accepting that death of loved ones and even our own has so much to teach us about life.
The energy of Mexico City in October and November is unlike any other place I’ve ever experienced. I filmed around the city and put together a video to relive the experience and I hope I did it justice.
El Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead is a beautiful holiday celebrated in Mexico on November 1st and 2nd (though actually celebrations go on throughout October into November!) It's like a grand family reunion-except dead ancestors are the guests of honor 🦋

Anna I think you have been Spanish in another life! Who would have thought..you seem to be a completely different person in Mexico..but I am not surprised. The architecture, warmth and earthy nature of the people speaks volumes. You have found your second home. Don't rush out of there.

Well alrighty then! You being you uncharted. And yes, the Day of the Dead is several days of celebration. I once was in a graveyard in Mexico on Day of the Dead. I was attracted to it because the joy and laughter I heard was contagious and matched my own. I went to see. It was all children. Then an adult told me that only children were allowed on that day in the graveyard because they are pure. I knew then that I fit in perfectly. I ran with the kids.

Very well done video! Thanks for sharing your travels and insights with us! I spent a couple of weeks in Honduras 33 years ago and it revived the Spanish I leaned in high school and locked in things I had forgotten. If I'd had just a few more weeks there, I'd have been fluent. Congratulations and doing so well with your Spanish from only a few months of study. I only aspire to that level.

Your music selection is beautiful. Following what would have been a noisy and overstimulating environment for my neurodivergent nervous system, you made the colorful and exquisite journey a feast, especially as the dancers met the beat of your musical choice perfectly. Although I have seen only two or three of your previous videos, you are a different person in this one. You are yourself. It seemed you were trying to be someone other than yourself in the others. And you were in a state of transition, which is often rough. I applaud you reaching the other side with such grace and aplomb. And it is so apropos that your deep transition would be reflected by the Day of the Dead celebration - the most profound transition known to human beings. Thank-you for this lovely piece 🙏💙
