As a woman i have carried a 2 inch revolver since 1970. Currently and for the last 20 + years i have carried the Ruger SP101 in 357 magnum with Hoge grips. I shoot revolvers (Ruger GP100 and red Hawk) in completion at least once a month. I have never had finger or hand priblems. I was surprised that you didn't mention a belly band holster of some kind. I have used them for years and are my go to holster. I feel about semi auto like you do about revolvers. I hate clearing malfunction in an auto. I will occasionally have a bad primer lice you mentioned. The number of rounds is the problem in a revilver. I'm supprised that you only .mentione speed loaders. Moon clips are much faster. I will never give up my revolver. I really enjoy my Ruger SP 101 loaded with loe recoil 357's.

Instead of low recoil 357 have you ever tried +P 38's? Just wondering. I like my full load 357's but I've been liking the +p in my K6 3" as it is so much lighter then my GP ( which really isn't a conceal carry yet at the right times in the year (with the right jacket) it works.

I my Ruger SP101 I have carried Remington 110 gr +p hallow points and Federal 110 gr hollow points. In my Ruger GP100 I carry Federal Hydro Shock. My Red Hawk is an 8 round compilation gun that is way to heavy to carry except to shoot USPSA matches.

@larzakalazerath6655 5 месяцев назад
@@cathy308308 I haven't tried any of those lighter 110 loads. I'll have to take a look at them. I'm mostly using Winchester Defender 130 grain and I have a bunch of 125 Remington Semi-Jacket Hollow Point that I got a really good deal on in bulk. I use it for mostly training. The 125 is also really fun out of my wife's Marlin 336, 357 is just to expensive for just plinking with the lever gun. I'd love a chance to shoot one of those Red Hawks. My riding rig is the GP 6" 7 round and the 3" birds head set as a cross draw, really comfy when in the saddle with the 6" holstered hanging off the horn.

My issued revolver saved my life more than once over the course of a 30 yr career. In retirement my EDC is a 442 or 340PD w/a speedstrip in an off pocket. One thing that helps tame the J Frame is changing the grips to something that fits your hand better.

The ultimate carry revolver in both 32 and 38 were pleasurable to shoot... The 32 was AMAZING... I was fortunate to be able to shoot them both, while they were in development... I think either makes a great carry... And the 32 with magnum ammo, is VERY viable.

I own a Charter Arms .32 H & R Magnum, 5 shot and a Taurus 327, 6 shot. The Charter Arms has an easy trigger pull, the Taurus is somewhat stiffer. I am 84 years of age and my hand strength is not what it should be so I use both my right and left trigger finger simultaneously to double action fire the Taurus. I am also working to strengthen my right hand trigger finger. The .327 Federal Magnum has some really good ballistics and I do carry it when I am out and about.

Hi I’ve been carrying a S&W 42 and now a 642 since starting in law enforcement in the late 1970s. I’ve found them to be excellent backup and UC weapons. I’ve always been able to qualify with them both in the State Police course and now in LEOSA. I suppose that sights and smaller calibers are ok but remember this is a close contact weapon and I don’t think I’d be engaging at more than 20 ft. I think the J frames are good choices but practice is a must. Nice job on the video. Keep up the good work.

When shooting one handed with a revolver turn your body slightly to a straight 180 degree angle. Two hands you’re 90 degrees with a stance. By turning more to 180 degrees your kinesthetic placement of your shoulder and arm allows for more hand strength.

Welcome to the magnificent .32 cal world! So glad you could make it here! .32 S&W Longs are great for training and familiarization with your weapon. They are also relatively available and somewhat inexpensive. And as you mentioned, the recoil is almost nonexistent. Unfortunately, the .32 H&R Mag cartridges are not so inexpensive, they are not so readily available, and basically only available in Personal Defense style rounds. And while the H&R Mag does offer more "punch" the recoil difference is not significantly different than the Longs. I carry a 3" SP in .327 Fed Mag and I have found that .327 ammo, while not cheap ($40 or so for box of 50) is far more available especially "on-line". And it is really a step up from the H&R Mag's. I hope you stick with it, and become a revolver fan! Living my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona

Nice video. Good discussion. My recommendation for new shooters and most ladies is the Ruger LCR in 327 Federal (and has been since it's introduction). It's light enough that it's likely to be carried instead of left at home. It has six shots instead of the five for 38 snubs. It's easy to shoot for most newcomers and ladies. AND, the reason it's so advantageous for new shooters is that it can use 32 S&W short - a pipsqueak round for newbies to learn with. It can use 32 S&W long - a highly accurate round as attested to by thousands of bullseye shooters - for development of accuracy. It can use 32 H&R which is a decent EDC cartridge in its own right, and readily controllable by ladies and those with less grip strength. And, when ready, it can use 327 Federal which closely approaches 357 mag performance with less recoil and less controllability issues. The S&W 632 you've shown isn't one I've handled, but it looks good and most of the things mentioned for the Ruger LCR will apply to it. The Smiths will usually weigh a bit more and have a slightly heavier DA pull, but all in all it would be a good choice also.

@@dreamfury2351 - My brother is hard-core right handed and finds it difficult to fill the cylinder in the same way most of us do. He opens the cylinder with his right hand and then transfers it to his left hand with the open cylinder pointed to the right (kind of like rolling it upside down into his left hand). He then loads the cylinder with his right hand - closes it with his left - and then transfers back to his right. He has gotten pretty quick with his technique. If your aunt has a similar issue with hand dominance, you might see if something like this would work. Also, it might help to lightly chamfer the chambers to remove any sharp edges (a little bit goes a long way).

Enjoyed the review. The Ruger LCR has a lighter trigger pull, while the LCRx variant has an external hammer so you can also thumb cock it for a much shorter and lighter trigger pull. The Rugers are chambered for the .327 Fed Mag round which allow you to use the less powerful .32 H&R Mag rounds. I like the .327 Fed Mag loads but the recoil sensitive would likely prefer the less powerful .32 H&R Mag rounds. The external hammer also allows you to do a cylinder rotation check after loading it without having to pull the trigger back enough to unlock the cylinder, and allows you to keep you thumb on the hammer when drawing it or reholstering it to stop the hammer coming back if something catches on the trigger. The hammer also facilitates the use of a gun retention strap. You really only need an internal hammer if you plan on carrying it in a pocket and want to be able to shoot through the pocket in an emergency.

Hey carl thank you for your 30yrs of service. I have heard plenty of horror stories about the 32 ACP the mass State Police used to use it as their undercover firearms and there's all sorts of stories about how ineffective and terrible it was.... This particular firearm is in 32 H&R Magnum....soo its a step up.... 32acp is 60-85gr bullet traveling from 725 to 1,100 ft per second... 32 H&R is 60-115gr bullet traveling 850 to 1300 ft per second..... So I'm not saying it's the end all be all greatest caliber ever but I do think it's much more comparable to a 380 than a 32long or acp. We love the Glock 42 btw. Thank you for your comment...mac

Might add that the 32 automatics are nice shooters, too. Beretta Tomcat, for example, has the tilt up barrel for ease of loading and shoots well like all Berettas.

Another great revolver series is the Ruger SP101. I bought one for my first wife and trained her to use it. She didn't us it much but kept it in as part of the divorce settlement. She eventually handed it down to my daughter-in-law, who uses it to this day. Another great option would be the LCR or LCRX revolvers.

32 Smith & Wesson Long cartridge comes in a Wadcutter load. The Wadcutter is a flat nose bullet. It looks like a little soup can. The bullet penetrates well and cuts a full caliber wound deeply. Some expert consider the wadcutter the best load for a revolver.

1 more thought on the strength of your hand. You can dry fire that thing, or one similar, a lot. It will build strength if you pull as fast as you can till you can't anymore in 3 sets twice per day.

The ultimate carry revolver is the 8 shot Smith and Wesson 43C in 22 LR loaded with federal punch ammo. There are you tube videos showing it penetrating 16" of ballistic gel. I have 6 different J frames and believe me the 43C is the one you want.

Think about a 640 in .357 and then you can use anything from a .38 wadcutter to a hot .357 mag round. Very versatile

Suggestion - Force your trigger finger to the end of the trigger. It isn't ergonomic but it does increase the leverage brought to bear in the hammer spring.

Although I Generally carry my Springfield Armory Hellcat 9 mm or my Glock 19 9 mm as my EDC, after watching this video I “may” consider test firing this weapon and if I like it enough I would consider carrying it as a secondary EDC. I also periodically carry my CZ 75 P01 9 mm as the added weight of the weapon seems to give added stability at the range that I like a lot and I’ve learned to like the hammer over the striker fire At 69 years old unfortunately I’ve begun to develop some bothersome arthritis in two fingers of my shooting fingers so this may just be the answer. Damn it suck’s aging, I realize I sound wishy washy but I’ve enjoyed getting to know some of the ins and outs of the different weapons and becoming somewhat proficient with different models. The Sig 365 Macro is the last one I’ll test out prior to being decisive about my EDC, but I like the Sig 365 Macro, the way it fits my hand, the 17 rnd magazine. I believe the Sig may win my heart, anyone agree or have concern?

Now you're on the right track! DAO _hammer fired_ revolver (or semi auto). My wife has been carrying a S&W Model 332 Airlight for more than 20 years! Same revolver, .32 H&R Magnum, with a Titanium cylinder. They were discontinued many years ago. The sights and trigger job of this Lipsey's offering are fairly useless for close range self defense...but it is the only way to get a S&W .32 H&R Magnum currently. And it's cheaper than trying to find a used Model 332. Most people who have a Modell 332 aren't selling it. For good reason! S&W J Frames have been my go-to off duty and concealed carry handguns since 1973, both as a police officer and now, as a retired police officer. The .32 H&R magnum is every bit as good for _close range self defense_ as the .38 Special, and more pleasant to shoot. I will not carry anything that is not DA/SA or DAO, _hammer fired._ Revolver or semi auto. Period.

It's a nice gun, lighter recoil than a 38, and much more manageable for smaller framed people. Mom even liked it with her permanent nerve damage. But, the big drawback is ammo availability and price. When we rented it, the ammo we bought was the most expensive handgun ammo in the store.

It’s all about ammo selection. If you’re willing to go to the .32, you can also shoot .38 short or long colts in the .38 and achieve the same decrease in recoil for comfort. Good video.

Revolvers are more reliable then semi's due to a much simpler design. The trade off is less ammo. This is why the 32's are coming back into popularity as they give you 6 shots in the smaller frames rather then 5 shots in the 38 cals. I'm a fan of the 327. Fed mag more than the 32 h&r personally. Never could figure out why they chambered these in a less powerful round. Chamber them in the most powerful round and then carry the less powerful if you desire. Just saying. Great vid.😉

I'm getting older so maybe if I carry a revolver the .32 H&R mag is an option. Thanks to RU-vid I haven't been getting notifications. I missed you guys and your quality content.
