My favourite part of the dress is the band of trim on the skirt - I love the use of s bias-cut self trim on checked or striped fabrics and it's such a nioce choice of fabric - like a gingham with extra detail woven in to edge the stripes in blue.

This children's librarian is super stoked to hear that you take your pre-school aged child to story time at the library. Reading to children regularly is the single largest factor determining the ease and speed that they learn to read for themselves. And while they wait for the other kids to catch up to them, their reading proficiency will race ahead of their peers- often to such a significance that others who were not exposed to books before schooling will not catch up to them until until their teenage years. Keep it up! Regular visits to story time and frequently reading books at home is the best thing you will ever do for your child's education and development!
I used to work at a library and do their storytimes, which is why getting my little guy there is so important to me. My husband and I are bookworms so our son already has his own bookcase. He can pick out which book he wants just by recognizing the spine. When he has independent playtime, he likes to sit down and flip through a book. He's only nineteen months old, but he recognizes a lot of letters and numbers just from reading. It's not something we push on him. He just already gravitates to books 😁
@@HattoHem That is wonderful to hear! I am also an Early Years Teacher (dual Education/Library Science degrees!). And don't discount the efforts you have made in developing his interests in reading. A present of books in infants lives (particularly in his room, and not just in the house), frequently being read to, as well as watching you and your spouse read for pleasure all have had a major impact. You may not have "pushed" him in to reading, but the constant presence of books in his life and to modelling of reading from his parents have had a direct impact on his early literacy development. It is not that your child is naturally smarter than others (although he may be!)- you have taught him good reading habits, which will impact his entire educational career (and indeed, the rest of his life).

Thank you so much! I used to sew big projects in short timelines all the time. Honestly, I do still do it more than I like. 😅I tend to work better under pressure. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! I like showing the sewing journey more than "I did this, then this." But it doesn't always work out that way. It all depends on how much I can say to the camera, which depends on if my family is in the next room. I felt like I took a risk not including more voiceover, but I think that helped the tone of the video. I might try to do that more often!

Yesterday, I was trimming a flounce, trying to be so careful, and caught the very end in the wide edge in the scissors (it had flipped under) and had to trim the flounce narrower. the dress is gorgeous exactly as it is--i love the fabric, buttons, and ribbon sash. i also love your attitude toward sewing--it's not the end of the world to simplify the design, to make a mistake, to have a happy accident, etc etc. all of this makes me really glad i watched this video, and i think you captured meg's attitude beautifully, too.
Oh, wow, thank you so much! I do my best to roll with the punches. I realized years ago that it doesn't help to sulk over a mistake or change, at least, not for too long. It makes more sense to move on, try to fix it, or take a productive break. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! I have an irrational hatred of making bias tape. There's no good reason for it. Part of why I made a continuous bias tape video was to remind myself that making it isn't that bad 😂

This is the most wholesome and best thing to watch! I love how every decision you made would make sense for Meg too, and also that line matching up was the most perfect thing! My perfectionist brain is SOOOOOO happy!
As annoying as the tear on that buttonhole is, I think it makes it even more fitting for Meg at that time of her life. To me, this reads as little hands playing with the button, holding on too tightly and causing a probably reasonably often worn and cleaned fabric to tear. Remaking the bodice is not in the budget, repairing it is on the never ending to do list, but visits must be paid, so a ribbon belt to hide it is the perfect fix. I love the dress and the thought that went into it.

When your bodice is pieces like that, I have just two words for you: burrito method lol makes it a bit harder to fix mistakes and put a proper collar on, but then your lining is firmly attached to the outside layer and doesn't slide around, and you can still sew in a zipper in the front if you want.
I typically prefer to flatline my fashion fabric to the interlining and treat them as one piece. I usually avoid bag linings because I just don't like them.

As a mom myself I appreciate your practical approach to Meg’s wardrobe. I love the fabric and the contrast buttons. Way to go finishing the dress on such a time crunch! I’m sorry about the rip (I’ve been there!). If you feel up to it in the future I think you could easily lop off the bottom edge of the bodice and replace it with a waist band. In the meantime, the ribbon was a great fix and feels like Meg wanting to make her clothes a little more fancy. ❤

Oh covid, I had it also for 3 weeks and it was brutal. I am glad to see you back and wonder if you have any long lasting effects from covid, anyway welcome back to life.
