This is the last episode of the becoming wild in wabakimi series.
I paddle out to the pick up point after 12 days solo in the wilderness.
I encounter thunderstorms, see a plane crash, hear the story of that airplane crash and reflect on an amazing trip.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen and to everyone who watched.
A new series starts next.

@@jethrobodine8563 same bro, the survival ones I like too. Canoeing trips are good for scenery and things to see, so I guess it makes better videos overall, but portage/paddle/sleep/chill/repeat can get repetitive a bit if he is not lucky. This series was amazing don't get me wrong, so many good things to see, especially day9-10 with the cliffs and the first blue wall eye. But I think I prefer when he picks a spot and pretends he just landed there and has to build a shelter, and improve it over the days, and not rely on dehydrated food. But please Joe if you see this don't you dare think I did not like this series ! Just do both kind of trips !

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. Wendell Berry - The Peace of Wild Things

Hi Joe, I'm an old lady in Oregon and I've been watching your videos for quite a few years under various accounts. Lately I've been binge watching your content because as a sufferer or severe panic and anxiety I sometimes just need to get lost in something that takes my mind elsewhere. This particular series has been a Godsend to me as I'm having a particularly rough time. Anyway I just want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for being so genuine and devoted to what you do. I so wish I was young enough to go do things like this, but as I am not I live vicariously through you! So thank you and thank Lil for her encouragement. Much love from me to your precious family., Jolene Stephen

I have to say that Joe makes this the best channel! You can watch this and not even be into backcountry camping. Their just great videos with lessons, and humor, and actual proof that things like this can be done. For me, it's an opportunity to get away from the pressure of $40m projects constantly going wrong. But I also know that Joe would be a good friend who's fun to hang out with on the camp. We could sing cheesy wrap songs like "awnaw" all day. Lol This was a great series Joe!

I cut the cable TV cord a few years ago, so RU-vid is my TV now. Joe has been one of my favorite "programs" for years and this might be his best series yet, although there are so many great ones to choose from. I have to say that as much as I love the beautiful scenery and all the vicarious adventuring, I've come to realize that what keeps me coming back is Joe himself. You are just such a real, likeable guy. There doesn't seem to be any phoniness about you. It's not that it's all good (I imagine all the farting gets old for your wife) but the whole package seems to adds up to a really genuine, good hearted guy. You have a combination of actual know-how cockiness, and doofus self amusement that is just impossible not to smile at. I appreciate how you manage to take what you love and turn it into a way to support yourself and your family and also entertain and educate a lot of people along the way. I haven't been camping in years, but watching your videos not only makes me want to get back out there, it makes me feel like I might actually know a little bit more about how to do it properly now. Thanks for what you do Joe! And on a side note, I think you should take up song-writing on the side - that lyric about seeing a caribou but not seeing a bear - not yet I swear - made me laugh out loud.

Watching you with Jon, from Lost Lakes, I knew I had to check out your channel. This was very impressive to watch. Thank you for doing this and being you. I don't camp or canoe, but do hike, fish and just explore the natural world. I have an 8 day trip to northern Minnesota, near the boundary waters coming up next weekend. I know I won't be as secluded as you, but it will be the longest I've ever traveled alone. I have crushing depression and anxiety, and am pushing myself to keep it in check. I'm getting inspired and getting courage from you and Jon. Thanks for living this life, and keeping me fighting for mine.

Really enjoyed this episode - it is indeed a different experience laying back and really leaning in to the environment, as opposed to putting one’s head down and grinding out long distances. Really nice to see you enjoying your surroundings so much!

I lived vicariously through your adventures while recovering from heart surgery and then on later, thanks your videos were a great distraction.

There are many great RU-vid creators on this niche. I can’t say I’ve seen them all, but I’ve seen many and I think this is the best series out there. So much beautiful nature portrayed in such an authentic way. Not even all the hype and RU-vid gimmicks in the world could compare to the solo journey you just brought us along. I can honestly say that this is the most enjoyable content I’ve seen in a long time on any platform. Thank you Joe!

Joe, I noticed you lost that fish and wanted to give you a tip. I've been kayak fishing for years and had to learn this the hard way. When you reel that fish in, keep at least a rods length of line out. Raise your rod and the fish will swing right to you. If you have to little of line out you will put to much pressure on the rod tip and will possibly snap your rod plus to much pressure on the fish and allow him to get off the line. I hope this helps brother! I've been watching you for years and I have learned a ton from you. Thanks for all you do!

These are the best videos Joe! I honestly love these more than some of the shorter stuff you do. Mostly because I've done long trips and every time I see someone else document it, it takes me back to fond memories

I loved this series. You were able to check so many boxes and to see your face light up when telling what all you had seen was very inspiring. You will be telling stories about this trip forever and rightly so! I'm looking forward to the next, as always. Now to go back to the video I quit watching when the notification for yours popped up. Blessings Joe.

Awesome video I'll have to watch the others in the series now! What a treasure Bruce and his stories/knowledge are it's unfortunate that our elders have to go and we lose them and their knowledge forever. I feel blessed to have heard that story about the plane that went down and having Bruce share part of his life with us. It's truly a shame that people don't take time and are in too big of a hurry to stop and listen to our elders more often. You Canadians have some awesome sites and people up north. That man and place is truly a treasure hope he has an under study of sorts to learn from him.

Found your channel through Jim Baird. Binged all his crazy trips a couple times. After finding you I'm even more keen to get out and experience Ontario. I knew it was beautiful but I definitely under appreciated it. I'm not far from Windsor actually, grew up in Simcoe. I got to a really low point for quite a few years and it was going outside and wading the river for smallmouth a couple summers ago that made me realize where I actually want to be. I plan on taking some solo white water canoe classes this summer and then maybe starting with a few short one/two days on the local rivers. Hopefully someday I'll be able to follow your route through Wabakimi and maybe even plop myself in the middle of the Yukon and not die a tragic death. That might be a stretch though. Appreciate you for taking us along brother and I can't wait to see what you have in store for the future. Stay safe out there.

Joe, I have to tell you this series was epic. The camera work and editing look like they belong on Nat Geo. I’m a long time fan and I love the outdoors. Thanks for taking me places I’d never get to see otherwise. Take care, all the best to you and your family. 😊
