It works as a monitor. If you need to confirm having bed bugs or estimate an amount, then this is useful for the ones that are trying to feed.
@MavrikUSMC
@MavrikUSMC 12 лет назад
Bed bugs can actually go 18 months with out feeding. This does work for some as explained in the video and other sources. It worked for me in locating which areas had the highest concentration of the hungry little vampires.

@purewater0629 Dry ice is compress Corbin dioxide & bed bug's are attracted to Corbin dioxide. It's what we & all animals release when we exhale. That's how they find us. Same thing with mosquitoes.
@KarlBunker
@KarlBunker 11 лет назад
If you know you have bedbugs, you need to get rid of them. You don't need a system for figuring out if you HAVE bed bugs, which is what this trap is.
@MissionaryOnWheels
@MissionaryOnWheels 24 дня назад
Or take a hot iron for ironing clothes over the surface area of the bed - it may be more time consuming though. Yet use of dry ice is pretty brilliant. Bed bugs are actually drawn to carbon dioxide from the body, - dry ice however is super cold solidified Carbon Dioxide and is likely too cold for them to survive on
@BedBugCentralTV
@BedBugCentralTV 11 лет назад
it may work but rubbing alcohol gives off fumes that can be repellent to bed bugs, meaning the bugs may sense the alcohol in the wells and therefore not enter the traps
@theurbanyankee
@theurbanyankee 10 лет назад
you could put dould sided sticky tape at the bottom of the well which should work well.
@JnSavedByTheBell
@JnSavedByTheBell 12 лет назад
You can make your own with a fire extinguisher but if you want to make a bedbug trap, dry ice does not work. It catches some bedbugs and then stops because all the dry ice is gone in 8-10 hours, sometimes less. You need much less Co2 than dry ice produces and that will last longer. Dry ice is used to catch dormant bedbugs and to suffocate and kill bedbugs in the mattress and box spring.

i killed all the bed bugs directly in my bed,i used a product called EARTHBLENDS by raid.It is a powder that is like broken glass to insects,the bed bugs walked on it and their legs got cut off and they died.What i did is i laid a layer of this powder on my matress,i spreaded it evenly and i placed my matress cover over it,i waited a week and all the bed bugs were gone,still i left the powder in place for 2 more months and the bed bugs never came back

Tried this after we were being bitten several nights in a row. Used a small plastic bin, 100% talc powder, a glass bowl. I glued cloth to the outside of the bin, and powdered the interior and the glass bowl. We got dry ice from Smart & Final, and popped some onto a thermos just like the one in the video. TWO WEEKS AGO. Nothing. No bugs. There WAS a shed casing on the cloth one day but my exterminator proclaimed it a carpet beetle shed, and I agree. We have a LOT of carpet beetles.

Another idea, not sure how easy it is to get ahold of- but that liquid nitrogen spray that they use at Doctors office to freeze off warts- that would definitely freeze them into next Thursday

just a thought, a puppy training pad, menstrual pad or diaper would work better to collect condensation, less chance of overflow.

@TheLegion1776

Yes, they leave blood stains, and they leave feces around their nests. You need to get a steamer and check the creases on your mattress and box spring and burn them out, if you haven't already.

Cory, I am looking at using yeasts. Haven't played with it vs dry ice, so I cant tell you definitively that it works. To me the concept is sound, the real question is (and I dont believe that the industry as a whole has answered this), Does it produce enough co2 to attract them? As an operator, we have created our own dry ice trap in which we use in vacant hotel rooms, and it works well.

how about a liquid catcher rather than dust? Water might work, but if it freezes, Acetone will work. One other caution, too much dry ice (or acetone) will poison you. This much probably will do nothing, but a word of caution is still in order. Also another option that might work (and wouldn't be cold) would be to slowly drip water into (new) baking powder. Think "Water clock" for the dripping.

Great advice and very thorough. Might be repetitive for some who've got nothing to do, but for those who might have a problem, or know ppl who have a problem, this is very helpful. Thank you for your time Jeff! (And thanx for taking extra time to carefully explain every little step. Some of us maybe geniuses, but for other folks out there, and some gdmothers who there alone and barely know how to use internet & youtube :) these explanations are potential lifesavers!) Anyways, cheers!

Talc powder drys the waxy layers of their exoskeleton out. Not to take anything away from the bed bug central guys but if anyone actually wants to talk to someone who does 6-10 of these jobs a week feel free to pick our brains, we would be happy to answer questions as education and awareness on this particular subject is key.

Drill a hole in the bottom of the dog bowl place the cooler inside a bowl that would have a drain in the bottom that sends the water into the bowl and it will collect in another bowl under the dog bowl.

When i say blood stains, i mean, do they leave a trail of blood, cause i haven't encountered any bugs on my bed sheets like i use to before. It's the first time since a month that i found blood trail on my bed. I have these *pimple* looking stuff on my skin that leave blood when they burst, i don't know if thats the blood trail i found on my bed. And the pink marking on my arm and back, i don't remember ever having one of those, i don't think my skin reacts to bed bug bites.No feces on mattress.

@TheLegion1776

Oh; I've never seen them leave a trail of blood, no, and it's a good possibility those "pimple" things bursting are the blood stain you found. Don't just check the mattress! Check all around your house within fifteen feet of the bugs; cracks in the wall, plug sockets, whatever is close that would make a good hiding spot.

Cant your technically just put the dry ice on the middle? because isnt dry ice too cold for them to survive on? Also, why does it have to be in a cooler exactly? cant we use a glass or cup?
@BedBugCentralTV
@BedBugCentralTV 9 лет назад
the bugs most likely won't contact the dry ice due to how cold it is and how cold it will make the area it is in, the reason you put it in the cooler is to insulate the ice to make it last longer and keep it away from the area you are trying to trap the bugs

I want to make a comment to the gentleman using raid to solve his bed bug issue. As a professional pest control guy I am not a fan of applying any insecticide on a surface you would have a lot of contact with. My company uses a process of steam, chemical, and mechanical control. To you sir I would highly recommend spending the money on a protecta-bed mattress encasement for BOTH your mattress and box springs. I also would recommend you hire a professional to take care of your issue.

Just put your pets to the neighbors and the plants at the back of the yard as far away from the house as possible then hit the house with 400 Sv/hr Radium 226 source until you cook any bedbug within 1/4 mi of that source friggin' dead. All rooms painted with latex paint will turn brown as will CDs, CD cases and plastic wrap in the kitchen but the bedbugs will be TOAST. Good for mole crickets, ants silverfish fireants rollypolyies but strangely not common roaches.

I used to live in greenpoint bkln and there was this tire repair shop i lived near and i would get tons of flat tires. I had a conspiracy theory that they were going around the neighborhood planting screw on the road so they could get more business. There has been a huge epidemic in NYC recently that I think is another conspiracy by Sleepy's the mattress store to boost mattress sales. think about it. how long will a good mattress last? 10 years? Thats not good for business. anyone?

No because bedbugs can go for a weeks without feeding. Meaning if you put a trap in your house right now, and leave it over night, and didn't catch a single one then you've been ripped off. They can hide, and stay in that spot for god knows how long, and your bite marks wouldn't show until a few days/hours. Trust me, this doesn't work, I tried many methods, and the only one I came up to is to call in a exterminator.
