Great video! I was the program manager for the Coors Light Silver Bullet program at Coors back then. Bob is a first class pilot and great guy to work with. I still marvel at his skill and showmanship.
What a great looking little plane. Pity they couldn't figure out the engine problem and make it easier for the homebuilder to fly. We'd see a lot more of them! Thanks for posting. I've never seen a BD-5J do knife edge before.
I first saw Bobby Baker and Corkey Fornof in 1976 in their perfomances as the Acrojets team at the CAF Airshow '76 in Harlingen TX. Then a year later at an airshow in Latrobe PA where a flameout on landing resulted in a runway departure and gear collapse on Bobby's plane.
I fly this plane in the MF Simulator. Brilliant for VFR and highly manouverable and fast. One of my favourites. That said some pilots have said it is both temperamental and can be difficult to fly. There have been a number of fatalaties and the Bede company left a lot to be desired in pre testing, it was also quite difficult to build. All that said it would be great if something similar could be resurected!!
