Had one. 8V screamer. 300 horses, pulled like a train. Best cab out there in it's day. Dropped 20 ton of mackerel on the M5 while driving one. e bugger!
Great engine and great truck,it was the fuel consumption that killed them here,in America where fuel was cheap they were brilliant and very clean until someone tinkered with the fueling and then they could belch smoke out with the best of them but overall those engines were near indestructible if treated right and NOT allowed to over speed on downhill roads.
Detroit 2 stroke V8 diesel has a sound sound of its own. The V6 and the V12 and V16’s sound similar because of what I call the multiples of 3, whereas the V8 has multiples of 4 so it sounds to me like a big 4 cylinder motorcycle from the 1970’ and 80’s, but what a great sound.
