reminds me riding the L train from the jefferson avenue stop into manhattan, then running to the A train to whatever building I was doing work in that day/week. trying to be mindful of my tool bag in the mornings, of my sweaty filthy person in the evenings. this was maybe 2014, and I made $12.50 an hour and rented a 5'x8'x4' box above a friends equal sized but slightly taller box. listened to bedhead on my broken ipod touch non-stop. as well as june of 44, slint, this town needs guns, we were skeletons, red house painters, and buffalo tom to name a few. thanks for reading.

I started university (kind-of), was maybe 19y old, living at my aunts place during thr week, and my place via my brother driving me around (he was seeying a girl really close to that) I would get up a 6am, go to school, fail my classes, sleep at the school anywhere on the ground or some shit, go back to my aunts place, stay up until 2am watching animes on my cellphone For 2 years. Man having a depression nearly killed me. On the breaking point i stopped existing. In 6 weeks, i went outside 4days, took 2 shower, and loose 35 pounds not eating. I played skyrim, while drinking water and nothing else. Listening to bedhead in repeat. Im now 27years old and honestly, im think im doing better, not by much, but ive grown a hell lot and its a great thing. And i still listen to bedhead ^^ Things go better :)

I was told they recorded this and had a practice space in their local church. That was part of what shaped the drum sound, because he couldn't hit them very hard. It was against the rules of the space. He had to figure out a different way to make it sound cacophonous. Made for a very odd sound for the time, and ended up being influential. At least I think it was. A lot of later famous bands copied the style.

Thank you for posting this. I heard "The Present" on WFMU/WXHD out of East Orange and Mount Hope in 1999, recorded it on a cassette, loved it , just found the cassette and a tape player that still works, and heard the dj tell us it was Bedhead, then looked this up.

My favorite kind of re-discoveries! It's how I found stabbing Westward as a teenager. I'd recorded a copy of Save Yourself on cassette while my family and I were camping. Low and behold many years later they become one of my angst-era staples. :) I just typed in full album 1994 while looking for something to enjoy during work. This sounds interesting - depressive kinda proto indi I guess? Let's give it a spin! Also much love to WFMU for getting good music out there!

To be crushed is not to be Hit and then left to recover It's to be left untouched Unable to pass from one place to another. To be crushed is not to be Held down by some minor influence It's to be left alone with nothing to understand To be drowning is not to be Suffered as some cruel fate It should be taken as a blessing And maybe even a gift from god. But i've never seen Him give anything away And i've never known Him to have anything to say Which is why i've never felt Any real need to pray
