1998, the year I was born; happy to relate to this. In all my happiest and saddest moments I come back to this record. Thank you for existing. Rodan too, the best music, the best feelings
I remember seeing them live, and they closed with Living Well, and on the way to the car, I must've heard 10 different people whistling that closing guitar melody. The power of an amazing song!!
He's not even in the same galaxy as the other poeple in the room. I've a good feeling he could have an idea for what he wanted in a musical mood and is able to make or produce it. People find this approach difficult even making sounds on a synth, very forward driven approach. Exactly what he should have been doing. Awesome
I’ve been reading a bit about Tony H Wilson and he’s a true icon. Indeed if he had lived he would be Mayor of Manchester instead of Andy Burnham. I watched 24 Hour Party People with a bit of protest, seeing as Steve Coogan looks and sounds nothing like AHW. I can appreciate where the frequent fourth wall interruptions and lack of continuity (like the driving on the motorway scene with numerous modern vehicles going past) allows for the film’s flavour. I can’t give 100% to the portrayal of Martin Hannet in the film, looking at this, and his skill, it seems a bit much to portray him as a foul mouthed yobbo who was insulting to all - he was massively skilled and this film shows the amount of effort that was needed. MH is saluted massive time from here : )
Paul Haig and Davey Henderson both jacked in their bands when they could have held on a wee bit longer and pulled it back together in an alternative universe.
Lov his joy division productions but not a fan of his style on other artists ,has anyone heard the first stone roses album produced by him ,it sounds fucking awful
I have watched this video dozens of times. Why is Martin Hannett not widely recognized?! He developed tools that we now use, in digital form, literally everyday. The effects that he help develop (now in digital form)... They are priceless!!!!
He was not crazy! (Like many are intent on labeling him) He just had a much greater understanding than they did. Many of the things which he developed, we now take for granted in digital form. Thank you, Martin. You were a genius.
Saw them support Altered Images at Nightmoves in Glasgow around 1981. Still sound incredible and fresh - marvellous and still welcome in my house at any time.
First time hearing this and I must say it's quite original in its dissonance. Elements of so many other bands ive heard ( The Fall, The Vines, The wedding present, John Spenser Blues Explosion) but these guys are not compromising to the formulas of chart success at all, ignoring the rules completly. I'm enjoying it and i'm not sure why. Maybe it's just time for my ears to appreciate dissonance and hear the beauty in raw energy. The drums and bass are solid as a rock that helps the guitar experience room to breath. Singer just sounds manic and mental which is a winner.
Maybe it was less apparent in back in the day but I am hearing Fugazi - Red Medicine all over this record. I know at this time there was a lot of cross-pollination between Touch and Go and Dischord bands. Great band, love June of 44.
