When using a Vulcan stone like this one should the stone/motor be adjusted up to extend over the top angle ? I know it says in the Foley book it should extend over top by half inch
200-250 foot pounds?? Did you mean 200-250 inch pounds for the bed knife screws?, big difference. Lol. By the way like your nice clean shop. Tells a lot about a person, and how they are passionate about doing there job.
I grind the top face first @ around 3 to 5 degrees and front face second @ 13 degrees grinding this way eliminates burr also I clean the bed bar by hand no power tools eventually that’s going to create valleys in my opinion also chase threads with tap and no need for never seize torque screws @ 23 ft pounds working out from center, service tech 15 years on turf equipment 15 years private golf club.
Nice video. I was, however, hoping to see more on how the grinding stone gets trued to the bedknife. There is so little detailed information about that on the internet for those of us superintendents without mechanics and need to do this ourselves.
I'm six months late, but it's getting to be that time of the year, so hopefully I can help. I can't believe he skipped over the most important part! So here's how I was taught and how I do it. First, I always start with the top face. I'm not sure it really matters which face you do first. I don't think it does (maybe this winter I'll try one the other way around and see what happens). Basically, with the machine off and the stone free so you can slide it by hand, I start spinning the stone with my finger and bring it up to the bedknife until it just touches. Then you slide the stone to the other corner and do the same thing. You don't want to feel a consistent grind. Its going to be lighter than that. As soon as the stone just starts to whisper on the bedknife I stop and go to the other side. Back and forth and back and forth until you can slide the stone from one end of the bedknife to the other and have equal contact on each end without having to adjust. Once I get to that point, I just back the stone out a few thousandths, lock everything down, and start grinding. I do the same thing for the front face, and I set reels up basically the same way, but I'm spinning the reel by hand instead of the stone. It seems a lot more daunting and difficult than it is. It just takes patience and some practice. Hope this helps.
@@MrWigg1es22 well said so on a foley do you adjust it out of parrell by moving the handwheel on the tooling bar adjuster ? I was told to unlock the tee handle and move tooling till it touching the same on both sides. Not sure if this right?
On the Foley, do you set up the Bedknife and then adjust the stone on left edge and right edge by using the right dial or do you leave the dial at 0.500 and grind parallel?
Same question I have i believe the book says leave at . 500 that way you know your grinding it straight. But every mechanic is different. I'm fairly new just started as mechanic
