This was not about any of them. They get ideas off TV , books and observing people. Mo said they needed a woman's name, as initially when they had finished the song there was none. The house they were renting had a cleaning lady... Her name was Fanny. She cried when she heard they used her name, she was so happy. Barry likes writing ballads and love songs.
I agree. This what this song's Wiki page stated: "We had a housecleaner named Fanny when we stayed at 461 Ocean Blvd. [in North Miami Beach] during the making of Main Course. We were sitting in the lounge at Criteria [Studios] writing the song with the lyric idea, 'Be tender with my love'. Maurice turned round and saw Fanny and said, 'Wouldn't it be a better song if it was a woman's name in there, and you're asking her to be tender?".[5]
Fanny was the housekeeper employed by the BeeGees management for the house they rented as working (the band) and living space when they first relocated to Miami. Maurice suggested a woman's name would add to the song's plea to be "tender with my love." So they thought "Fanny" would work well with the tone of the song. Fanny was delighted and honored!
...to the point of tears! ❤ (Devin, Fanny was an older black lady who was an excellent cook and housekeeper! Maurice had to watch his weight while she took care of them! 😊 * BTW, RSO records got the house for Eric Clapton first and she was there as he was first out of rehab and getting his career back on track! He's been sober all these years since!! ❤ )
@@janicetrimmell6897 Hey you, back - What a cool surprise!! 😎 I agree. He even said he could eat just about whatever he wanted and "stay at 140". I love The couple times he started to say, "Just knock off the horns, wipe it's ass, and put it on the plate!" LOL
Maurice also took the high harmonies at times, before and after Barry went falsetto. They were all so very talented! Thank you for bringing back a memory. God bless you too.
Except in this case all the high falsetto is Barry as well as the low. This is why this song was never performed live because its way too complex. This video is poor because they are all just miming to all the parts. In fact most of it was Barry but he cant do everything at once live. Sorry
@@Coowallsky this song has NEVER been performed live so you were not watching a live performance. The one you are thinking about is not live, just a mimed performance for a video.
They were incredibly talented, they all had the vocal range. Mo did falsettos on "Nights On Broadway" live on the Midnight Special for one example. All were very adaptable vocally, who sang what in the studio was not necessarily performed that way live.
In my top 3 BeeGee songs unfortunatley when released the BeeGees weren't getting much playtime so it didn't reach the charts as it should have....it is a beautiful song and their voices are unmatchable !
I know that you freakin out, 😆 because this is their stunning masterpiece from the 1975 main course album, with Barry Robins and Maurice perfect high pitched falsetto harmonies and amazing blended in 16 audio tracks😱 perfectly mixed by Karl Richardson & Legendary Arif Mardin. As Barry told their instrumentally most complex and difficult song, but it is for sure one of their best jewels and praised in two interviews as the best RnB ballad they ever heard from Paul McCartney & the Goat Quincy Jones 🍾
Almost 64, fell in love with this song the moment I first heard it on the radio in 1975. Ran out and bought the Main Course lp! It became my all time favorite song and I always thought something would come along and knock it off my top spot, but nothing ever did!!!! You should research to see who Fanny was. It was a love song but they needed a name and they got the inspiration to use their maids name while they were recording at 461 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. She was a Jamaican woman and when they finished the song, they played it for her and she broke down in tears. She just passed away recently but always cherished the fact that the Brothers Gibb honored her in such away! There is a live version of this on RU-vid but it really isn’t live, just a dubbing of the studio version. So watching it is useless to try and pick out who is singing what…I am glad you just showed the lyrics. There is another reason why you won’t find a true live version of this song-they never performed it. This was a miracle of layering all their voices over and over in the studio and they simply could not replicate it live. I would also add that it is refreshing to see the explosion of RU-vid song reactors reacting to this song. The Bee Gees have had so much success in so many eras that this song has largely been forgotten. I don’t understand why it didn’t hit Number 1 in 1975 and I swear, if you ask 100 different people what their favorite Bee Gees song is, you will get 100 different answers and NO ONE will mention this one!!! A shame, it is their best song by far and I am so glad you enjoyed it! You could listen to this ten times a day over the next fifty years and never get tired of it. Trust me, I never did! Love your channel, preach! Proverbs 3:5,6 9:21
Wow Devin! We are having church in the house! This is hands down my favorite Bee Gees song ever! This Christian rocker gets it! Love your reaction and word bro! God bless and rock on in the Faith! The Bee Gees were something else! Wow!
Hey Devin! I love your reactions to The Bee Gees, they always seem to surprise you when the song starts. 😁 "Closer than Close " (the 1997 live in Las Vegas) version is great. Maurice has the lead vocal on this song. This will give you a chance to hear what a beautiful voice he has. From what I understand he always liked to stay in the background, but he showed us his soft, smooth voice on this song. Another favorite from them is "Love so right " an absolutely beautiful song. ❤💕🎶
Funnily enough, that live performance of 'Closer Than Close' in Las Vegas isn't actually live per se - that is, Maurice actually lip-syncs to the studio recording of the song for all of the verses, with some actual harmonizing and ad-libbing going on by all three during the chorus. I wonder if there's actually a live version of Closer out there where Maurice actually sings, because that would be nice to hear - it's a very sexy song!
@@Erizedd Wow, who knew? Despite all of that, the song is still his and there are other versions that Devin can look into that aren't live, they just have the Bee Gees singing without any audience, just the song by itself. Regardless, however they chose to present it, Maurice and his brothers never disappoint. The song still sounds awesome whichever way they did it. 🔥🔥🎼
I once read Fanny was their Mother"s favorite. You may have reacted to "You should be dancing" from the movie Saturday Night Fever (1976) but havent done the song from the (spirit tour concert) live 1979. Brother Andy performed along with them and they killed it! "You stepped into my life" and "Love so right" are great songs by the Bee Gees.
❤❤❤❤you have the best show!! You make me laugh and run a great show. I love your reactions and so happy you love the Bee Gees. Keep their music coming and keep those reactions coming.
This is my absolute favorite Bee Gee song! There will never be another group like them. They said that they rarely sang this live because it was very difficult to do so. I believe that Fanny was their housekeeper. This also was their Mum's favorite song.
After the brothers wrote the song as "Be Tender With My Love," they thought it might have more impact if they added a name to it. Fanny is the name of the housekeeper working with them when they recorded this in Miami. The layers and harmonies are the best!!
My favorite Bee Gees is “I’ve Just Gotta Get A Message To You”. So sad, so melancholy, hauntingly beautiful ☮️🌺 Thanks for another smile from this old hippie 😁😎💋
I love this song ❤️ PLEASE do Bee Gees "Closer than close" reaction. That's the song where Maurice is a lead singer ❤️ Wish you all the best form Poland 🇵🇱❤️
as far as i can remember i have been listening to these guys. in fact all o my life. it never gets old. i was born in the sixties. i never thought about that till now.
I love watching you react !! (makes me want to dance in my kitchen)That song particularly..gives me goose bumps ! Keep up the great work & keep looking up..🙏 After all these yrs..still love me some BeeGees..❤
I was a teenager in the 70s and I LOVE them so much! I can listen to bee gee songs over and over again, headset on and volume up, their songs are like therapy to me ❤️❤️❤️
This song gets me all emotional I love love and their music brings back so much memories the BeeGees wrote the most romantic music that I know of. Now if you will excuse me I have some tears to wipe ❤
My mom was really into disco. Listening to this kind of music really brings me back to Friday nights, my mom drinking and listening to her favorite songs.
You need to watch the video of them singing the one where it shows that silly looking carpet at the beginning, you get the full affect sometimes in this song you can’t tell who is singing and win.
This was one of the first songs the Bee Gees recorded after they discovered their Falsettos in Nights on Broadway. Barry was reluctant to keep singing with the Falsetto but Robin and Maurice told him the Fans and Producers loved it. So he agreed to continue it. All the Bee gees had the Falsetto but Barry could hold it the Longest!
That's falsetto is legendary and brought their career back to life . Can you react to All In Your Name by Barry Gibb and Michael Jackson? Great reactions!!!
My blue-eyed soul brothers will forever be loved!….’Fanny’ is my all-time favorite BG song and Robin’s voice is unmatched! ❤….so glad I grew up loving these guys and still listen to them today (their greatest hits CD along with Queens greatest hits CD stays in my car and is played each and every time)! Barry❤Robin❤Maurice❤Andy❤
Don’t worry,Devin, nobody was unfaithful. She was the housekeeper,in their Miami home, when they first moved over. They had no name, for the song, then decided to name it after her.
This song was heavily produced, and has a lot of layers dubbed over to add fullness, depth and complexity to the song, particular instances where one brother's line overlaps with another he sings, making it impossible to be replicated live with only the three of them singing. So yeah, what you said is spot on. :)
How they wrote their songs, they did the music first, then the title and then the lyrics. What I have read and seen in an interview was that the name was Be Tender With My Love and they decided to add a woman's name to the title. Maurice saw the cleaning lady at the studio where they were recording walking down the hall, who's name was Fanny, and suggested using her name. They voted and agreed her name went with the title and lyrics. Hence the title.
It was written by Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. In a 2001 Billboard magazine interview with the Bee Gees, Barry claimed that: "We had a housecleaner named Fanny when we stayed at 461 Ocean Blvd. [in North Miami Beach] during the making of Main Course.
Hey Devin , Bee Gees are the best ever and so addictive. Love your reactions. A another brilliant hit from them is 'I started a Joke' so sad, Robin as lead singer
