There is no death, destruction or dire consequences from anything you see in this video. The bees are fine. This is pretty much par for the course in the commercial beekeeping world. The occasional bee transport gone wrong or commercial beekeeping fail is just part of the price of doing business on a large scale in this industry. Equipment breaks, people foul up and sometimes nature just gets out of hand due to the situation "nature" is put in.
I think I did five gas station jobs this year which is about an average year for me on these types of calls. I typically get about another four or five calls from truck stops or gas stations who think they are doing me a favor just to let me come get bees off their awnings that are 14 to 18 feet in the air and have scattered old forage bees all over them. Those kind don't think they should pay for our service even though they are losing money all the time they have this "situation". Many times by the time I arrive they've had to shut down half their fuel pumps and are loosing thousands in sales due to bees being all over the pumps or columns next to the pumps. They'd rather put their customers at risk while they try to find someone with the time, knowledge and equipment to come do a job for free. One Loves Truck stop I collected bees at waited for two days to see if the bees would leave before they decided to come off the paltry sum it was going to take to rectify their problem. None of this irritates me if that's how I'm coming across. I'm just telling you how it is.
The hives that are losing these bees are typically just fine in the end. The amount of bees we are collecting here seems like a lot, and it is for the typical beekeeper, but it's just a drop in the bucket to the amount of bees that remain in the hives on the trucks. Once the trucks get rolling again after fueling the hives cool back down and the bees cluster due to the wind on them They don't abandon the boxes in large numbers while they are going down the highway. I'm sure there are exceptions to that as I've been told of trucks leaving bees on stop signs at ever corner in the mid west but on the interstate the bees pretty much stay in the boxes.
