There is no death, destruction or dire consequences from anything you see in this video. The bees are fine. This is pretty much par for the course in the commercial beekeeping world. The occasional bee transport gone wrong or commercial beekeeping fail is just part of the price of doing business on a large scale in this industry. Equipment breaks, people foul up and sometimes nature just gets out of hand due to the situation "nature" is put in.
I think I did five gas station jobs this year which is about an average year for me on these types of calls. I typically get about another four or five calls from truck stops or gas stations who think they are doing me a favor just to let me come get bees off their awnings that are 14 to 18 feet in the air and have scattered old forage bees all over them. Those kind don't think they should pay for our service even though they are losing money all the time they have this "situation". Many times by the time I arrive they've had to shut down half their fuel pumps and are loosing thousands in sales due to bees being all over the pumps or columns next to the pumps. They'd rather put their customers at risk while they try to find someone with the time, knowledge and equipment to come do a job for free. One Loves Truck stop I collected bees at waited for two days to see if the bees would leave before they decided to come off the paltry sum it was going to take to rectify their problem. None of this irritates me if that's how I'm coming across. I'm just telling you how it is.
The hives that are losing these bees are typically just fine in the end. The amount of bees we are collecting here seems like a lot, and it is for the typical beekeeper, but it's just a drop in the bucket to the amount of bees that remain in the hives on the trucks. Once the trucks get rolling again after fueling the hives cool back down and the bees cluster due to the wind on them They don't abandon the boxes in large numbers while they are going down the highway. I'm sure there are exceptions to that as I've been told of trucks leaving bees on stop signs at ever corner in the mid west but on the interstate the bees pretty much stay in the boxes.

"now we're talking about snakes" hahahaha! I work in healthcare and encounter many people every day who like to "share." To some it's a bother, but i personally enjoy it. Have to think about it this way- it makes everyone feel good to share and for the person they're sharing with to get something out of it. Remember that the next time you're telling stories to the electrician, plumber, doctor, mechanic, whatever. How do you feel when the person is like, "yep," "uh huh," "okay," etc. It's insulting when someone blows you off and it's obvious they're only interested in doing their job and moving on. It doesn't take that much time to listen, and you can even do your job while doing so. anyway, just something i noticed here :) Randy doesn't cut the gentleman off, doesn't give short and "i'm not interested" answers/comments. Give respect, get respect

On that, I notice people have a hard time listening for more than 5 seconds without saying something. Whether talking for them out of impatience or turning the conversation back on themselves. Rarely really listening and commenting or asking further questions. I myself don't get to talk about myself much because I'm a listener and I'm curious. Most people are not. So you know who truly care when they take a moment to listen.
@Dargonhuman
@Dargonhuman 4 года назад
Ehh, I hear what you're saying, but that goes both ways. If you're going into their space like this, yea, show them respect by actively listening to them. On the other hand, if they're coming into your space and bothering you, you don't owe them the same courtesy, especially if you need to concentrate on your job with as few distractions as possible. For example, I work the front desk at a hotel and we have one long term guest who doesn't seem to understand that I'm there to work, not socialize, but when he gets bored, he'll come down to the lobby to talk, but if I'm in the middle of doing paperwork or doing a security walkaround of the property or something else where I don't need to be distracted, I'll tune him out and do the monosyllabic automatic responses so I can focus on the job I'm supposed to be doing.

People don't realize how much time we actually give away. The time it took you to find the owner of those bees is a very good example. You get 0 pay for that. Often it even get's you into an argument(just because you are the bearer of bad news) with the person you are trying to help.Thank you for your honesty and work ethic. We have drivers that know (all they do is haul bees and hay) the 2 rules while transporting bees. You fuel up before or after daylight. You NEVER STOP during the day. Most of the time at truck stops and such, those swarms don't have a queen. They are mostly sraglers that end up grouping up. One other observation I found; when the sraglers clump up, they seem to really like stop signs..

@@628DirtRooster I thought when they transport bees they couldn`t get out of the hives because the entrance was blocked?
@joerowland607
@joerowland607 5 лет назад
@@tomjones239 Because of the time it takes to transport they don't close the hives. There has to be ventilation and there are a lot of bees (hives) on a full trailer. Pollination companies don't take the time to close up the hives. Besides they NEED to lose bees there is no second box, and they most likely have just pulled them off of a field their numbers should be high, unless the hive is suffering from pesticides on the fields. There is not a lot of time for hive management at transport time, they are off to another field. So to prevent swarming they hope to lose numbers before they hit the next pollination gig. Once they hit the next gig the hive should recover.

Read the description. Exactly what I thought. Bee keepers don't do the work for free. My brother owns an orchard, he has a bee problem right now and expected the work to be done for free. I told him he's a fool and the bee keeper has a right to keep the honey. Well, he tried doing it himself and got stung. He deserved it. I only think that it's a common thing for bee keepers to keep the honey because that's what I see on 628dirtrooster.

His say "LARGE SCALE BEE REMOVAL - ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK" and he said it is *GREAT* for deterring "eejits and lookeyloos". Seeing the honey running down the wires makes me wonder if the bees normally send a few workers down to clean it up regularly. Kind of an irregular duty shift. Given how hard they work to make it, it would sort of make sense.
@joerowland607
@joerowland607 5 лет назад
Bees if left undisturbed won't make that mess. They are very tidy. They will clean up any honey in the hive. They generally don't poop in the hive and will removed dead bees or others from the hive. If you dump powdered sugar on them they really go into clean up mode.

They leave a big problem someone ELSE has to pay to take care of. Seems it shouldn't be that difficult to look around before leaving where you parked your commercial truck. They are SUPPOSED to do a full walk around of the trucks anyway! If you see a bunch of bees clustered in the area, you KNOW YOU caused it. Glad you're willing to go get them

ANTS. And yes that will cause problems if you leave them to long, hive beetles and wax moths too. Ants will wreak havoc on a hive, they will chase the bees off too. Hi mate another excellent video and i love the way you are so relaxed around the bees ,anyway a question could i send you a very short video by email and get your opinion on if the bee traffic around my bee wardrobe is normal coming and going or is it robbing and if so would robbing go on for over a month when the swarm that moved into the wardrobe only resides in one top draw no where else and thank you for your time cheers

I'm making a solar wax still. In your zone, it's worth the investment of time and materials. You can make them out of an old cooler or start from scratch. You can put a glob of wax inside of a pantyhose and perfectly clean wax comes out while you work. The honey separates from it without water, so you're good to make mead or feed it back to the girls...

@@628DirtRooster I talked to a pollinator, and he told me they are glad to shed the numbers. After being on a field the hives have lots of numbers and could swarm. By losing bees they prevent swarms. They leave the truck stop fast cause they have already heard all the complaints and don't want to hear them again. He said lost bees are just a fact of pollination.
