I had beech for firewood last year. It was well seasoned and made really good heat. It made a light fluffy ash.

A cut and burned a tree that fell that was about 250 years old. beech has to season probably over 7 months to get it to light by itself it has a really good smell when you cut it and if you cut it with an ax you need to cut it on the side and it'll sound like an apple. I know my wood stove glows orange when I burn beech, it's really hot. I save it for the colder months.

Seems like the beech trees grow under big ash not oak on my property but there's big oaks growing over beech in my neighborhood

How long does Beech need to season?

Always, always get this question. The simple truth is that it depends entirely on your overall location, firewood shed location (no don't ever just pile it as only oak and black locust doesn't rot in place) If you have a really good wood shed with excellent coverage from rain, yet good open front/back to let the air flow thru and it's a low humidity summer it will for a fact season in a year. If not and you have a large 7 cord woodshed like myself and you chose to hide it behind the house (yeah I have a lot of land but you don't want to run the big tractor way out back every time you need wood lol) real and proper hardwoods take a full year to 2 years to season proper where modern 2020 EPA regulated stoves burn it hottest-smoothest-with our dampers as low as possible that's ideal. However life is fckn vicious isn't it? If you need high end firewood asap then you find Black birch not white ash. Black birch is the fastest drying top shelf firewood I've ever seen in my entire life. I've burned since a kid and burned everything
