Beef Tri Tip Recipe - How to Cook Tri Tip in the Oven and on the Stove

Hi! Today I will share with you the easiest and tastiest beef tri tip recipe. I will be using the reverse sear method to cook the rti tip - I will first sear it in the oven at 275 degrees F until the internal temperature is 130 degrees F. Then I fill sear the tri tip in a well preheated pan with olive oil for 45 seconds on each bottom and top side. And then I will sear the tri tip sides for about 20 seconds each side.
Remember to take the tri tip out of the refrigerator about 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to cooking.
And after you are done cooking the tri tip, let it rest for about 10 minutes prior to cutting it.
I hope you enjoy my beef tri tip video recipe :)

Three years…I’m a little late to the party. This was the best Tri Tip method I have ever used. After the Kosher salt, I rubbed in some dry thyme and then my coarse black pepper. I was a bit skeptical about such a low oven temp, but my cut of meat hit 135* in about 35 min. The searing was quick and made a wonderful finish to the surface of my roast. This is the best Tri Tip I have ever served. Thank you. I will explore more of your videos.

It's Sept 2022 now. Last Christmas family was here. Had a SCRUMPTIOUS rib roast! This year all will be gone to spouses fsmilies, so just hubs and I to cook for. A few weeks ago I saw vacuum packed tri tip at my grocery store. I've never cooked one. Checked youtube sites and I wanted to do it just like you cooked yours. One little difference. I'm going to finish mine outside on the charcoal grill.

@AnOldSchoolHome
@AnOldSchoolHome Год назад
Just last night, I didn’t want to mess up the stove top so I cooked the tri tip in the oven only. I cooked it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes and it came out perfect. I took it out of the refrigerator 40 minutes before cooking. Just before putting it in the oven, I seasoned it well on all sides with Kosher salt. The tri tip I cooked was 1.5 pounds.

If you think you'd like the flavor try cutting slits into the meet and inserting roasted garlic. When its roasted its almost like butter in consistency. Uncooked garlic slices will work too, but I like the texture and flavor of the roasted.

This is the only way I cook thick steaks now, too. Reverse searing can’t be beat!
@Zyxz
@Zyxz 4 года назад
@@SunshineHB Why? Just curious. I'm not an authority on it.
@SunshineHB
@SunshineHB 4 года назад
@@Zyxz This is my amateur cook's opinion: There is something about bringing the internal temp up slowly that seems to yield a more tender and juicy result in the end. You get a more even cook from edge to edge as well. It is also much easier to control the final internal temperature vs cooking at regular heat (grilling, pan sear etc.) Before I started reverse searing, I would sear in a hot cast iron and put the whole thing in the oven after the flip to finish. Because the pan and oven were heated above the desired cook temperature, you had to time when you removed the steak, or the internal temp would continue to rise past your target. There are only a few degrees difference between medium rare and medium. The biggest problem I see people have with reverse sear is not finishing the meat on a hot enough cook surface. It really needs to be as hot as possible. In a pan I do 1 min per side and then 1 more min per side basting with butter. If you don't have a brown sizzling crust after this, the cooking vessel wasn't hot enough. It helps to have something like thick cast iron that will retain that initial temp after you throw the steak in. When I sear on the grill I pile the coals to one side, so they are an inch under the grill grate, red-hot. The second most important thing is to make sure you REALLY pat the meat dry before searing.
@donnadomingo4818
@donnadomingo4818 3 года назад
I was going to say that. I am not sure it would make a difference. Usually we sear meats first to lock in the juices. Since this is a really low temp cooking it may not matter. I am going to try it out.

@@AnOldSchoolHome it worked out! It was a little more on the rare side than medium rare that I was looking for. So next time I assume leave it in the oven a little longer? Or the pan?
@AnOldSchoolHome
@AnOldSchoolHome 5 лет назад
Hi! Definitely more in the pan. Start with extra 30 seconds on each side. You can always cook it more, but you can’t uncook it.

Looks delicious!! Have you ever broiled your tri tip at the end instead of searing it? If so, how did it turn out? What sides did you prepare with this meal?

Yes, I e done that. At the end in the oven, I switch it to broil on high and broil each side for 2 minutes. Here are my favorite side dishes ru-vid.com/group/PLExtnhBai_NsaWLX-2Zrym_Ea-VU3L7TF Thank you for watching!!

Hello, I am no sure as we never make it well done. If you are near a grocery store, they should have simple $6-&7 meat thermometers. That would be the easiest way to make it well done. I’m sorry I couldn’t help.

Hello Beautiful Lady with the Beautiful Accent xx...This Meat looks to die for so you better run and hide lol. I live in Australia and have never heard of Tri Tip Beef.I was wondering if you knew another name I could look for at the Butcher's. Also speaking of Australia ..Sydney is my Town...and one of the Most Famous Beaches here in Australia and all around the world is called BONDI BEACH..which I noticed on your jumper you are wearing...I thought that was Ironic .Anyway thankyou for sharing your Beautiful Recipe. Sendindind you Warm Regards from Sydney xxx

Thank you Suzy! You are so sweet!!! I really appreciate your comment :). Tri-tip. The tri-tip is a triangular cut of beef from the bottom sirloin sub primal cut, consisting of the tensor fasciae latae muscle :) I hope this helps :) My husband went to Australia in 2016 with his brother for a 2 week vacation. They were in Sidney the whole time. I think his brother won a trip for 2 at work; his wife didn't want to go, so my husband went with him. He bought me the jumper right from the Bondi Beach :) He even took a photo of the stand where he bought it to prove to me that he didn't just grab a present from the airpot on his way home :))) He absolutely loved Sidney and met a great friend there (Josh) who he said is the nicest man alive :) He wants to take me there sometimes, as well :) Thank you again for your wonderful comment and I hope you find tri-tip down under :)))

No worries since tri tip are rarely :) evenly shaped, the lady's one had a pinch in the middle which is common, and they are usually somewhat of a tapered triangle with one end thicker and wider than the other. The result is that there will be some medium rare and some medium well done. And if you put one end of the tri tip off center in the oven that might be rarer than the part in the center of the oven.

Depending on how you trim it everyone can get a piece they like. The outer side will be more cooked then the thicker center parts.
@AnOldSchoolHome
@AnOldSchoolHome 4 года назад
Exactly! We usually use the outer parts for salads and the medium rare inner parts standalone with a veggie side 😊

No, you can start cooking it right away. You might have to cook it just a bit longer in the pan (the final step) because you are starting the meat at a lower temperature. But it’s not a big deal - I’ve done it. Good luck!!
