I have two horizontal hives. I keep seeing you next to yours. How are you getting them ready for winter?
@beek
@beek 3 дня назад
I'm not optimistic. I live on the prairie and it's very cold and windy and horizontal hives do not do well up here in the north. In the south, I think they would do better.

"better to ask for forgiveness than permission." really? I planted a couple Pawpaw trees in the yard almost 10 years ago now and my wife has never let me live it down. Even though everyone enjoys the fruit the trees produce. Just fyi there was no one place I could plant them.

It was minus 40 here for three weeks last winter (zone 3). Wrapping can be a great idea for us Northerners. My hive loss is 10 percent whereas most is at least 50. Obviously it’s hard to say it’s all about the wrapping but it certainly helps us with the survival formula. I really love your videos. You and your team are a blessing to beekeepers.

Why do you take the queen extruder off? Idk
@beek
@beek 2 дня назад
If we overwinter with a queen excluder below a honey super, during winter, the cluster could move up into the honey super for warmth and food but the queen cannot. She might be deserted and perish from the cold.

Thank you for your video big fat like to this video!! I completely agree about heat in the hive it is completely unnecessary. The bees will have short life. If it’s warm during the winter especially if it’s a north part it’s been proven by scientists long time ago. It’s already been done. There has been reports in Washington state that honeybees are dying because it’s got too warm during the winter .People should read books and not completely rely on RU-vid videos. They’re fun to watch though and see what all the great beekeepers up to get the wisdom from old times 😊 I will do wrap my hive from strong wings. Can’t move them .

Good morning, I did a combine a few weeks ago. The bees are doing fine. I got broods at this point so I know they are doing well. However, I now have 2 queens. Both of them are moving around in the hive. Is that possible?

Yes, not all that uncommon as people think.
