I don’t understand: if you only cage for 7 days, all the mites will jump into the soon to be capped brood. If you cage longer you won’t have open brood and treatment choices are easier to pick.

Why does killing the queen give you a 30 day brood break? The workers will use an existing egg to raise a new queen, so it might take two weeks (5+8 days) before she emerges? Plus there is the danger of her not returning or not finding drones to mate with them getting pushed out of the hives already?

45 years and master bee keeper I don’t use smoke and I do not teach to use smoke.not saying you don’t have to but I find it makes bee more agitated..and sugar water will not calm the bees but in my findings they are not as agitated..I also run single deeps and teach this method but do not teach you can’t..

I agree that newspaper are Hard to find in these days but a use them last week and work it perfect.

Thank you so much for this video David. I like the push in cage method and am leaning towards that technique. I only have 2 hives and tested my largest one last week using alcohol. I had zero mites out of 313 bees. I will test again in September.

I have a rookie question.... I've noticed in my 3 hives that I don't have drones nor drone comb... is this ok? I did have drone in March when I placed into hives from swarms caught.

Thanks for all the info. I am not sure if it is my bees, or equipment, but I get an incredible amount of propolis where my frame ends sit in the box. I don't have gaps between boxes, but also am relatively new and have equipment from a few different providers. I would be grateful for any suggestions you might be willing to share. Yours just looks so clean, it made me envious. :^)

Yes, sounds like there is just enough gaps for the bees to add propolis. However, some colonies are more propolis gathers than others.

How come only a week? Wouldn't 2 weeks be more effective? Perhaps you could coordinate a two-week mite treatment with a 2-week brood break

Hey David, I put your nutrients in upside down pint jar feeders on top of the inner cover inside an empty honey super for the dearth. I’m a little concerned about the exposed gap on the inner cover, meaning open to robbing. Considering a screen over notch. What do you think? Appreciate feedback, take care

Best paper to use for an add is the grocery store advertisements. They are the exact size of a hive body.

Can’t you put the queen in the frame cage with a brand new frame then the queen couldn’t lay any eggs or she does lay eggs but she had the bees draw out another frame Right. Maybe a win win

David, GREAT VIDEO on all the options to break the mite cycle. No dearth here in ORANGEVILLE NY, lots of rain , 75 to 85 degrees, bees are loaded with pollen. Hive inspection tomorrow, hopefully not too many surprises.

New subscriber David your videos thanks for sharing your knowledge. Is 2 year bee keeper this month. Started with a nuke I’m currently with 6 double deep 10 frame strong colonies with 70 % capped honey. I Also have 4 weak hives I’m feeding using you formula just moved a frame with capped brood and 5 swarm cells capped. Will the honey be safe to eat extra spring after fall feeding and vapor mite treatment.

David, remember several weeks ago, I placed a drawn 10 frame super on a bottom board with 3 super boxes full of bees and your comment was I should have placed the super on top, well today I inspected the hive, found that the bees had cleaned up, fixed comb, and I found the queen laying eggs with 1000's of busy bees working on both sides of the middle frame. Also, a massive amount of bees in all the supers working away . No SHB nor mites found. Best Day weather 72 degrees, very low humidity and tons of pollen on the foragers. HAVE A GREAT DAY AND SEE YOU THURSDAY - LIVE 👍

I’m a new beekeeper. I used the isolation cage with a frame with only honey, no open cells for her to lay in. I’m planning on keeping her in there maybe a month or less. The bees will probably clean out some honey a so she can lay, but it will take a while. I took out the drone comb to make room for the cage.

Hi David, If I see eggs on the frame (worker brood frames), can I safely assume that they are worker bee brood? I think I may have drone laying queen, but she is laying them in the normal frames

Do the crop dusters not affect your bees? I am told even a little Sevin dust can be carried back into the hive and cause the whole hive to die out.

Could you isolate her to a frame that is full of capped brood (so not much space for her to lay), but still give her room to roam? Also, doesn't the chance of a queen being mated go down significantly late in the summer and early fall?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us I just have a question if you have time give us the answer or point me to where I could get it .first I had last year 2 nucs 1 he didn't pass the winter I didn't feed them anything or give them the verroa mite treatment I was just beginner and I still until now but I learned a lot from your channel and from most of beekeeper in RU-vid last May survival nuc swarmed I lost my old queen but during my checking I found that they are 3 queen cups and some queen cups are already open one off the queen cups had a emerging queen I thought that I should split the hive but without weakening the old hive so I took 1 frame of brood and 1frame of honey and moved the old hive a few meters away from it location and I replaced with new hive and add the Virgin queen that just emerge everything was good But the issue that I was facing the old hive didn't build enough comb it still stopping in 10 frames the new one build 6 frames I didn't help them with anything my question is how I could get them to build more comb because I am still planning to split one next year if they both passed winter .I already give them apivar because I found a verroa mite when I was checking the old one is verry strong

If you feed while supers are still on, bees can treat their food as if it's nectar and store the syrup in the super frames, aside the actual nectar/honey.

Vaporizers are too expensive for me and OA does NOT kill mites below the caps, and I live in a cooler climate where I can use formic pro when needed, and my other IPM methods work well enough so I rarely have to use formic.

Question if I feed 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 sugar syrup is it possible to get them to draw some comb before winter I have 3 hives and I've not pulled honey of like to get the comb drawn out is it possible

I can't win the honey bound battle in my hives..... they won't build the honey supers and keep wanting to swarm. Wish I had drawn frames..... lessons of a newbie I guess
