It doesn't meet the criteria to be a Trappist beer, but it's a great beer. The Trappist association are very strict about who can call their beers 'trappist' and Achel recently lost the right because they no longer have any monks brewing their beer! ABT 12 is still a great beer though and alongside Rochefort 10 one of my favourites. Many consider Westvleteren to be the best and if you can get your hands on one try that as well, but it's hard to get hold of.
The more I research "Trappist" beers, it seems that it is better that they protect the name. Maintaining the strict criteria to be called "trappist" keeps the name from being used frivolously. Thanks for the suggestion of Westvleteren. I was looking for it a few months ago, but now I will have to increase my efforts to try and get my hands on them.
Good review Dino! I had a great IPA last weekend you should give a taste if you can get your hands on some…Ghost in the Machine by Parish Brewing…super hazy!
@@grumpyvetgarage they do sell it down here at the big alcohol stores. My buddy that brought it over lives in Lugoff and said it can be tough to find up there but he’s been able to snag some here and there.
