Beethoven “Moonlight Sonata” (2) on Piano for Old Bull Elephant 

This man has a better relationship with this elephant than most people have with each other.

Who knew crickets chirping in the background would fit so harmoniously with the Moonlight Sonata?

My favorite part is that you respectfully caress your old friend before and after you play for him- beautiful really...

Gosh I love the ending, he silently gets up, gently pats the elephant's trunk and then puts his forehead against him like old friends. How touching.

Let's take a moment to remember that bull elephants are big, strong, dangerous animals. The pianist is brave as well as kind.

Two beautiful souls.

After a total of 10 years in college and a total of around 35 years of searching for what #Art truly is, I have found it. Art, is creating beauty, in a moment, using an external expression of your soul, in concert with the universe. Well my friends, this is it. #this

Breaks my heart to think what Mongkol went through earlier in life.

And it is so nice to see the elephant look at him from the side of his eye from time to time. These are very intelligent animals and I am certain he loved the music.

I tell you that the elephant loves you, Mr Barton, and I do too. Thank you.

Mongol periodically looks at you with his left eye, seems to be so relaxed, and smiles. "This human is a good man" he seems to be saying.

Mongkol was swaying to the music.

He’s just chillin, listening to some Beethoven.

My new favorite performance of the Moonlight Sonata is played on an out-of-tune Spinet, with a lovely accompaniment of crickets, for a 61-year-old rescued bull elephant who is enjoying a few moments of perfect peace and joy with his musical friend. As soon as you started playing, he started to flap his ears ever so softly, you could tell he liked the music.. Such a beautiful animal... Every living thing has feelings and is capable of loving.. I am happy he is taken care of now, released from his chains of hard labor, no more pain for him, his body healing as he listens to "his" music... Thank you Mr. Barton for what you do, your heart is golden...

I always tear up at these videos. These animals are so incredible. Intelligent gentle giants who know if you're there to love and care for them, or are there to hurt them. I always think of that video with the wild elephant herd, when a baby fell down into a muddy ditch. The people living nearby hauled out equipment to hurry and rescue it. These wild animals KNEW they were helping, and stood by--within distance of being able to do harm if they thought the humans were hurting the baby--and when the baby was rescued, one even appears to wave with its trunk in thanks as they depart. And these are the animals humanity has exploited and abused like this boy. These animals that learn how to paint real drawings, and dance with music, even sometimes trying to play as a human does (like the one who beats up poor Paul when trying to play the piano LOL). I'm so glad for this sanctuary and all the other ones who rescue and allow them to live peacefully.

I love all the insect noises in the background too!! This one is very special.

Trunk resting on the ground seems to be the height of relaxation. So lovely.

I love Mongkol, I hope he lives another twenty years at least, listening to Paul's beautiful music.

Elephants deserve good music more than humans nowadays

I am getting old. Could not keep tears from running down my face. What a lovely video, Mr. Barton!

Im put in mind of two old friends in a pub , enjoying each others company ..i can almost hear Mongkol say to him "Ahh yes Paul..play me that one...you know its my favorite" as they relax and share a fond friendship ..no words need pass between them . they have the love of music bringing them together .

This happened in our earth - two mortals creating an immortal world of view and sounds ....simply heavenly ...(turning pur earth to heaven for afew minutes ...)

Whenever I see one of these videos, I have one overwhelming thought: angels do walk among us.

If there was ever anything I've seen and wished to have been witness to, it is this.

It would be interesting to set the piano over a solid platform like concrete or something of the sort, Elephants can hear through vibrations on the ground, their feet are specialized to make those vibrations travel up their bodies and into their heads, might be a nice experience since the piano can produce that sort of vibration

I’ve honestly lost hope in humanity. We can’t fix the harm we have done to the environment and we can barely slow it down But moments like these. Enjoying the company of an innocent animal like my pets or feeding the local birds or planting flowers for the bees give me joy and while my hope is still gone it makes me feel like something right was done even if small

I think the elephants find the music so calming and soothing to them that they enjoy it quietly. This one is swaying back and forth really enjoying the sound.

This elephant has great taste in music. See how his ears flap at transitions, his trunk raises with emotion? He GETS Beethoven. Beethoven reached through the ages and touched an elephant.

I am so touched by this beautiful being and your efforts to bring peace tp his life after enduring so much pain. Animals are our brothers and sisters. Humans are far less loving and caring than they are. When I am any place far from humanity I feel complete calm and rest, surrounded by my most precious friends, the animals; those creatures far superior to humans.
