This is the 1st video in my tutorial series for the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. To see the full performance, click on the Performance Video link below. In this video, I split the piece up into sections and go through each hand separately, then put the hands together. You are such a great teacher, you make it easy to understand and learn. I have just retired and decided to learn a new language....music. Have not played the piano in over 50 years and after 2 weeks of practicing 20 minutes a day, I surprised my wife by playing the first 9 bars...she was shocked! Talk about feeling proud. My goal is to learn the whole first movement by Christmas. Thanks again!
This is by far the best video tutorial. Really depics the music bar by bar and doesn't make me feel incompetent. Love your modifications and how you make sense out of it all. For me as a visual learner, this is amazing. Thank you
I learnt this awhile back. I have not been practicing and I felt like I had forgotten everything I learnt here. I was freaking out because I could not find you for a minute. Thank goodness I found you again to refresh my memory and jump to part II of this amazing tutorial. Gracias.
You are an amazing teacher in whole of youtube. it was a futile chase to follow many preachers here. i was so desparate to learn it, and now you have solved the problem of LH & RH fingering separately and then synchronised. Best teacher I recommend in youtube. im gonna follow all you lessons. GOD BLESS U alway
The best tutorial ever. Very understandable. I’ve played piano when i was 7 yo. Now i’m almost 40 and having very difficult time in my life, and this just gives me hope, time for myself and stress free time. THANK YOU 🌹🌹🌹
It honestly saved me studying piano and drums Kristina...after losing my mum..aunty and 5 of my friends...helped me to take my mind away from the whole situation
Best Tutorial, thank you. I learn by watching you play it slowly and rewinding 1000 times and watching the section through again and getting a little farther each time. Thank you for going slowly.
@@ThePianoKeys maestra casese conmigo y asi me enseña piano y a hablar ingles y yo le enseño a hablar español . y lo voy a amar toda mi vida y a cantarle miles de canciones hy fron mexico
This is my favorite song of all time. My mom used to play a record (Arthur Rubenstein) of the first movement to get me to sleep when I was a baby. This song can stir up more emotion in me than any other song. I swore to myself that I would learn tp play this before I die. Well...time is now a factor. I'm 65 and have COPD. Up until recently, I only had a 48 key keyboard and it made it diffivult. Now I have a full 88 keys to work with. I think I just might be able to keep my promise to myself. Thank you! I think the best advice you give (that no one else gives) is to learn left and right hands seperately. That makes a big difference! Thank you again!
Thank God for you! I have learned all of Mozart’s Turkish March from you and now I am starting this one! These are trying times of the world and I was supposed to start a new job today with Catholic Charities, but because of Corona virus, it’s being delayed. I will thankfully be able to spend more time in learning some beautiful piano pieces thanks to you! Stay healthy, mentally and physically and may God bless you and keep you.
I was 3/4 through learning this entire song..but I no longer have access to a piano. Once I regain access..I'm coming back to conquer this. Thank you for sharing your gift!
I may have thanked you before but you deserve it again for taking your time teaching in a very easy to understand way, not getting overly technical , really just covering all the bases where at then end, I really feel I've made progress after each lesson.
What I found very helpful is although this piece calls for pedal, you played it without the pedal while demonstrating. That made it a lot easier to hear the notes distinctly. Thank you
also, there a bunch of us who don't understand "middle C" or "G" and can't read music but just want to play so seeing the left hand reference is going to help. My son reads music and is a musical genius but I'm sort of limited in that way, can't read music but I can play by remembering the song and mimicing the sounds.
I just from your turkish march video. And find it very helpful! I could literally play any song I want just by watching your videos😃. Best tutorial ever!!!
Thank you dear teacher. The lady is very friendly and explains very well. I am not a beginner but it is as if it were, because I stopped playing a long time ago. I have the score for this piece, and I'm starting to train. Your lesson helped a lot. Thank you so much.
The one day I was struggling holding the top note, the next day I was excelling at it effortlessly. Amazing how fast the brain learns over the night. But Beethoven really was a meanie by demanding to press a and b over an octave. This is something I won't be able to get done so easily. Thanks for your alternative on this part.
You're welcome! Beethoven demanded a lot from musicians. Just be glad you're not a vocalist singing his music. :) But, to be fair, the pianos of Beethoven's time were very different from the ones we use today, so it may have not been as difficult to do it as it is now.
this is so beautiful! I am from Argentina and I am trying to learn this, first, it was too hard for me, but then it was easy because you have the ability to explain how to play this piece with a lot of patience, you make it slow and that is the perfect way to learn, thank you very much.
I was waiting for this piece! Everyone is paying attention only for the 3ed movement! But you are friends with the beginners too! I like your style of teaching, because the fingering is the most problematic obstacle to me. But you take away this obstacle. Thank you from the heart!
The Piano Keys hey , please can u give us a tutorial of felitsa by yanni plz the way you teach is so wonderful. my eng is not so gud by plz felitsa is 1 song i want to learn but i dont know how to read 9/8 time sign
I started playing 2 weeks ago, and this is the song lol i picked to learn, but now Im doing beginners lesson to actually learn piano, but Moonlight Sonata is my go to just having fun and I got most of 1st movement done, just need a lot of practice still for consistency, finally got the transition down, ...this part just breaks my heart and speaks to me that I had to learn it... you teach very well and a good pace instead of just rushing the chords
@@ThePianoKeys I'm struggling, I don't know if i'm not capable of reacting to the sheet music or it comes with practice, I know the notes on the keys but applying it has been a task, im taking it slowly but maybe my mind just doesn't process it fast, (i can memorize the keys no problem) it's just reading the sheet, I feel like I'm a 1st grader trying to figure out 12 grade homework
Wow, thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this. I’ve dusted off my keyboard after years of dormancy and I’ve been learning things again…it’s so rewarding to be able to make music myself once more. I’ve taught myself the opening of Pathetique and Fur Elise over the past few months and I’ve always wanted to play this one, too. Your breakdown into sections is perfect and I am so grateful 😁
@@ThePianoKeys I managed to play the first two/thirds of this tutorial. Thank you so much. The last third with the AB stretch is tough. Kept hitting additional keys while trying the stretch. Maybe with practice, even that will work out someday. Thank you so much, Ma'am. 🙏🙏😊
This is such a helpful tutorial. I've played guitar for years off and on (once almost 30 years off) and just bought a piano less than a week ago. I can mostly read the Treble Clef but struggling yet with the Base Clef. This is one of my favorite classical pieces ( I grew up playing classical on guitar) and your tutorial makes it possible for me to actually learn this as one of my first ever pieces learned. With my lack of experience I'm sure it's a lot more of an uphill battle for me than some here but without such a well done lesson it wouldn't have even been possible! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your kinds words, Steve! If you can read treble clef, you can learn to read bass clef, it's just a matter of disciplining yourself to do it. If you're on Facebook, join my private community, Piano Practice Tips, and we'll support you on your piano journey. Also, check out thepianokeys.com for lots of resources to help you achieve your goals faster while having lots of fun! 😁
You are an amazing teacher who knows how to communicate music to your students so well. I will not only subscribe to your RU-vid channel, but will definitely subscribe to your online teachings! Thank you for making this lesson available for us!
I really love your tutorial videos! I am a beginners for 7 months, your videos help me to learn this piece a lot. Great piano tutorial videos! Amazing teacher :)
Thousands of thanks for you! I do enjoy your videos a lot! Could you please consider doing a series tutorial videos of Beethoven Pathetique 2nd Movement? I would be very grateful :) Best wishes to you!
Thank you for making this tutorial! I'm a violinist teaching myself piano, and learning to read and play bass clef is kicking my butt! 😅 Such a big help! Thanks again!
YOU ARE AMAZING, I NEVER THOUGHT I CAN DO IT.................. just study this video 4 hours and practice for 1 day and its done fully performance and amazing alternatives ...... thank you so much ..... soon i will paypal you i promise just when i fix my balance ..... you deserve..... keep going .... much love :)
Very much appreciated 🙏🏽, i havent actually took the time to sit and learn a new piece in a while. and its crazy this is only the first MINUTE of the song 😂😂😭😭 *my hands are cramped* 🥴
You're very welcome! Cramped hands are not a good sign - this shows that you are playing with a lot of tension. Please watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wAasK3nLY_E.html

im a beginner, jus bought a keyboard and im trying to to play, I got the first part, im struggling with the second but i think i can do it, thank you for this tutorial
You're very welcome! Make sure you're also working on your technique. It's really hard to play pieces without the foundation of teaching your hands how to move at the piano. 😊
This piece has been on my queue for quite some time and I’m finally getting around to it (so many great pieces, so little time😅). I knew you had a tutorial for this so immediately clicked on this because I knew I would learn it best with your great instruction. Thank you so much Marina. Love your channel.
Thank you for your tutorials! I have done a few and just wanted to let you know it helps a lot on the ones where you play the whole part before starting the tutorial so it’s easy to go back and hear both hands together and the speed WHILE learning the part and not after learning the part. Thank you again!
Really great tutorial video! This is the best one on RU-vid for me. It’s easier to follow than some other tutorials and has been making the process of learning this song very easy! Thanks :)
I love your teaching style. Very clear and easy to understand. Purchased your piano keys course for my wife and she is absolutely loving it and learning a lot. Thanks for what you do and please keep them coming :)
