Beethoven Wellingtons Sieg oder die Schlacht bei Vittoria op. 91 argovia philharmonic Rekrutenspiel 16-2/2017 Douglas Bostock, conductor Live-Recording - 16. September 2017 Video and Audio: Wolfgang Drechsler Alte Reithalle Aarau
- Tolles Video!
Who knew that a famous melody Beethoven used for this piece (in order to represent the French musically), had been taken from the ever so popular French folk tune _'Malbrough s’en va-t-en guerre'_ back then, which was sung for the first time ever after the Battle of Malplaquet (1709) ? The meant melody is still widely known and often used today, but well known for quite another song: *_"A Jolly Good Fellow"_* . These days Beethoven would probably have received a copyright strike on YT, wouldn't he? 😁
A very commendable performance by an amateur orchestra. Trying to play this correctly as Beethoven intended, is a major challenge for the greatest symphony orchestras. It's extremely difficult.
Interesting: At the begining every thing is very peceful and charming, happy...but sudenly the drums make like a March that transforms into a caos whith the rest of Instruments for almost the rest of the Song... That caos makes me feel the war and makes me want to move a lot. In the middle of all that musical and literal caos, there are some pauses, some sad and some others more likely happier. Its a representation (maybe) of the Napoleonic wars: At first, bethoven says through music that every thing was allrigth and happy but then the soldiers advanced to a caos, a war that sometimes wat better or worse... but fortunely at last: everything came back to normal
Beethoven was euphoric about Wellingtons victory, but Wellington was definitely not, as he wrote the notorious letter to Lord Bathurst in which he gave an unkind name to the British soldiers, especially the Irish inniskillings 😁
So this one one my first encounter with the new ad regime youtube forced on us--right int he middle of listening to this piece some horrible add comes on. I have no idea for what for, but does either RU-vid or whoever was stupid enough to pay for this add, think seeing it would make me do anything but loathe the product advertised? What Geniuses! RU-vid is going to go the way of Twitter. Can't wait for the replacement.
