Adam is a better dad to her in the beginning of the musical than her actual dad was, but in Home her dad talks to her and they have a better relationship.

The lyric is, "I burned all my bridges and came." It is referring to the fact that Lydia came to the afterlife to find her mother. She is pleading with her mother to respond to her after she came all this way. I know this because we purchased the official sheet music for my daughter, who is working on this song in voice lessons.
My friend sings this in her performance and I cried so much her voice is like an angel singing exactly like her. I recorded her voice, I’ll listen to it when I’m really mad or sad sometimes, and it makes me so happy to hear her warm voice singing this song. I can’t express how beautiful her voice while she sings this
UPDATE: I was keeping specifics about the audition fairly quiet until it happened because it was for American Idol, but now that it’s happened I thought I’d update y’all: unfortunately I didn’t plan for the fact many ppl camp overnight to audition so it turns out the slots had filled up by the time I got there... I’m still planning to sing this at a karaoke event though, so I’ll keep everyone posted on that! Part of me really wants to sing this for an upcoming audition, because it’s a beautiful song + it’s in my voice range, but I don’t know if I can deal with the emotional associations This September 1 will be the one-year anniversary of my grandmother’s passing. She and I were very close, and she supported me in my passions when the rest of my family scoffed or dismissed me. I called her Mama. This song is so beautiful onstage it made me cry so hard. Lydia sings it all alone and then all of a sudden Charles runs in and sees her. They talk about Lydia's mom (Elizabeth) and everything that has happened. Charles reveals that he does not talk about Elizabeth because it is too painful for him. He also explains that he dates Delia because 1) He loves her and 2) He wants to fill the gaping whole in his heart left by Elizabeth. Charles wasn't being cruel, he was just broken, like Lydia. Everyone grieves in different ways, and he struggles with emotions so he just suppresses them because they are too painful. It is so beautiful and so moving I love it.

As someone who's gone through the death of a parent who I was very close with, this song hits like a truck going full speed at an Isekai character. I love it so much yet everytime I listen to it, I'm on the floor in a puddle of my own tears-

I haven't seen the musical so maybe they discuss this but I have 2 theories of why she can't see her mom- 1. Her mom is purposely ignoring her because she realized Lydia is too attached to her, and wants Lydia to become indepent and her own person instead of clinging to her for answers. 2. This is dark but: What if Ortho exorcised her? Ortho almost does it to Adam and Barbara on accident in the movie, and he would've succeeded if Betelguese hadn't stepped in- what if he wanted to test out his ghost calling powers and decided Lydia's mom was the only dead person he could think of and he "called" for her and ended up killing her for good-

This song kinda hits me despite it being my dad and not mom. When I first listened to the soundtrack I cried a tiny bit to this song because I heard it right after my dad was put either into hospice or had already passed.

the way i hit the "i dont know which way's home" in chorus is I add a bit of head voice in the beginning of the word home and the for the "ome" part I switch to chest voice. i hope this is helpful
