Same here -- and I actually enjoy riding out on "weather" days, light rain or light snow -- it's like you and your horse are the only two creatures on earth.
At least in my book this is the most perfect ride I have ever widnessed....such balance...a horse in total harmony with its rider...speed when needed-yet collected when neccesary...one almost thinks both are one creature...
From Huner Jumper News "It is one of the most challenging events in the sport for both horse and rider, with a distance of 1100 metres, 25 jumping efforts and every natural obstacle on the ring standing between them and the finish line. Since the Nexen Cup Derby began in 2007 only one pair has mastered the course, only one pair has cleared the course, Beezie Madden and her great stallion Judgement." It's a 1.60meter class.
I love how careful that horse is, each jump he just tucks his legs under so neatly, and Beezie keeps him together even on the wet ground. Fantastic round.
i Love how well she handles the horse the whole time sending him forward without being mean. she does a great job letting the horse take it's time going down the steep bank toward the middle of the course. and then getting it over the fence at the bottom. WONDERFUL
I think that Beezie is certainly an amazing rider, but in my opinion this video is a testament (sp?) to how incredible this horse is. Granted, she rode it beautifully and made it look effortless, but Judgement was just.... I don't even think words describe.
Love this video more and more every time I watch it. Absolutely flawless. Each jump was so perfectly calculated hitting the center while still holding the eq. every time. What a wonderful rider and a fantastic horse. That isn't even mentioning the rain and the mud. Keeping it cool takes a truly spectacular rider.
He is such an incredible horse and she is an incredible rider! I know the woman who has one of Judgement's offspring and her two horses are the #1 and #2 jumpers in North America!!
horses wear pretty big studs in their shoes so it would be hard for the to slip even if they had jumped badly. Besides, people travel all over the world to come to this event, would be difficult for them to postpone :)
It was not that bad at all and I'm sure the horse had the largest possible studs in. Also, Beezie took great care in guiding her horse through the trip so that there were no slips.
Honestly its not dangerous at all if you take precautions. He purposefully controlled the stride and went at a walk for the hill. The horse also would have been wearing studs to have better grip. You're talking about two world champions. They know what they are doing.
lol 3:08 she was trying desperately for a shorter distance but he's like "No!" And I swear 1:29 looked more like a bounce than a one stride, especially with that oxer in front! What an amazing, bold horse!
I admire Beezie Madden because of multiple reasons. She believes in keeping Judge nice & calm throughout the whole course, doesn't let him gallop out of her hand, but knows how to move him up and hld him back. To me, she is the only rider that really tries to make HERSELF look pretty over the fences & equitate. There are too many riders that just lay down over the jumps just to get over them. She is a REAL rider.
I LOVE Beezie Madden! She is my role motel, and i really hope to jump like that someday 2! I also LOVE her horse ( Coral Reef Via Volo ) Beautiful Warm Blood
I think another thing we don't understand is that no horse is the same, and every horse you ride requires different methods, and different ways of riding. There is no "right way". That's why it is so hard for us to judge a rider without knowing the history and training and type of horse. Some riders are able to pull of EQ, for instance, and some just can't because they have to focus more on what the horse needs for a clear round. That is what is really important.
I definatley agree with that. Exactly, it has to be correct. I know I'm not the prettiest rider, but I do know that I am effective and for the most part, my body is where it needs to be, my heels are down, exc. All I am trying to address is that, nowadays, so many teen riders are so obsessed with making everything about THEM look beautiful, instead of thinking about what the horse needs. Sometimes the rough and ready riders are the best ones. But yes,I agree with you. Just something I've noticed
I do the same with my Equitate, I try to make myself look "pretty" because I believe every rider should have a good equitate because I just feel it's the proper way to ride. But, I agree. Breezie Madden and Judgement are my Inspiration.
wow! that was amazing! i would love to be able to do that. They make a perfect pair! what great talent! who knew a horse could go down that steep of a hill then go right into a canter and jump over a huge wall. great job!
