From Coach: "Perfect weekend companion. Inside and outside pockets. Adjustable strap." This is the bigger cousin to the early Compact Pouch. It's a perfect everyday bag with a back pocket and generous space for all the essentials.
And it was like somebody threw up on it! Watch how I restored this beauty using tried-and-true leather restoration and repair techniques.
Here's a list of the products I used in this video.

Hi Lyssa thanks for your wonderful videos. I love them so much. However I’m reading a lot of research online that is saying do not use shoe polish on handbags because it can cause wax buildup and transfer to your clothes. I have already bought the shoe polish. And I was looking forward to using it. Have you had any difficulties with it transferring to your clothes?

@@ronnibryant7863 I use a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the cold water wash to sanitize my clothes. I recently read it also will help dissolve the excess build up of coating from dryer sheets that is not good for clothes so it will probably do the same for wax .

Saddle soap, the glycerin kind don't use Dawn detergent please she is so wrong on this and if a bag is really dry like that you can use some linseed oil soak a rag get the rag on the leather to let it soak in take your hair dryer heat the leather up it opens the pores on the leather the oil will soak in then coat it with a saddle soap and then a light brushing with a soft shoe shine brush should have been done you don't soak a leather bag in water there is no need to do that unless it's absolutely disgusting and stinks

Great job restoring this classic shoulder bag. The point is to restore the bag, not necessarily make it look brand new. My late father was in the US Cavalry at the start of WWII and would tell me how they would care for the saddles - a bit of wear only makes it look better - he would say. He always took time out to preserve all of our leather goods growing up and I continue this practice today. I have Coach and Lara bags that are 40 years old and still look great - not showroom perfect, but I wouldn't trade them for all the $500 bags in the world. Kudos 😊

I’ve done this! It’s scary the first time (well, every time), but these bags were originally described as “glove leather.” I always thought that meant thin leather like fine ladies’ gloves, so it didn’t make sense to me. Turns out, the original owner of Coach was a baseball fan. “Glove leather” means *baseball* glove leather. They’re definitely worth restoring. If I’d seen this bag for sale I would’ve jumped on it! I bought a $30 leather bag from Penney's about 30 years ago. I kept it cleaned, conditioned, and people I met complimented me on my "Coach" bag! I simply said "thank you". Knowing how to care for what you buy, like our Elders did, is thrifty and wise. I ended up giving it away a little while ago to someone who worked on, and sews leather. We agreed on it's a lot to do with what its made of, and how it's done. Burkin, Coach, etc. are expensive and "niche" clientele, but I could never buy something that just sits around...just to say I own one! Beautiful job!!! Hope it gets loved and used often.

I use saddle soap to clean leather. I like the brush work, it spares produce. To finish it off I use a more oily leather wax for protection, but that will make it shine for a while. I use a cloth to put on the leather conditioner but I like how you do it so gently and sparsely. I do think it is a waste to not keep a good leather bag - or shoes and coats for that matter - in a good state. Thankfully there is still hope for neglected leather products. Love the result!

I recently pulled out an old Agner bag from the late 80's that's been hanging in a coat closet. It's in excellent condition. Almost like new. And it's the same style as that coach bag. My one weakness. Designer bags. Mink oil does wonders on old or new leather.

Just stumbled upon your channel and this video. Wow, super job you did, on a beautiful purse that needed some TLC! I was petrified, to tell you the truth, when you soaked the bag in the Dawn and water solution! I never even did this for my English horse bridles, and they could get so gungy......so you are super brave! I use a German saddle soap and then a leather conditioner for my vintage Coach purse, and it works, just like it does on my saddles, bridles and girths. But you truly did a great job on that purse and it will last many more decades.

I have purchased used purse after used purse on Poshmark and these girls somehow have fake pictures that look like the purse is gently used but by the time I receive it it looks like it was already several years after the photos were taken 😂😡 I want to restore for myself but after having so many collections of purses that I can’t really use, I will probably have to learn how to restore them and resell 🤦🏼‍♀️

This video is informative, but the gratuitous ASMR aspects makes me want to flip tables. I dont need to see you putting gloves on for 5 mins. The inbetween bits are uunnecessarily drawn out. If it's the ASMR that you're trying to garner to get more likes fine. But that might be added to the title. Bag restoration with ASMR.

How to clean black stains on the hook of a leather bag
@starbrow7
@starbrow7 3 года назад
Dishwashing detergent is the worst thing to use on leather. It strips out oil, which is why your bag is already starting to look dried out at the end of the video. Use saddle soap instead. You can find it at any store, and it's not very expensive. You did use very good products in the second half of the video, but as another commenter mentioned you used them in the wrong order. Your bag looks much better than it did when you got it, but it would have looked much better had you used the correct products correctly, and it would continue looking good for years to come.
@mt.shasta6097
@mt.shasta6097 2 года назад
Starbrow7, As a saddle owner (English saddles) from 60 years onward, I can say that saddle soap is also SOAP, and it, too, is drying. Back in the day, we used a bit of linseed oil to nourish the leather. Of course, that got on the tan riding pants! Later we learned to use more lightweight, waterbased creams. Technology is wonderful. BTW, my wife used to wash her kidskin riding gloves on her own hands, then blot them dry and rub Jergens lotion into them. They were always soft, clean and ready to go for next time.

I just bought a Legacy Coach purse at a consignment shop in much better condition than yours but I also just did a rejuvenation to it. It is a navy blue in color. I don't soak my bags but I use a saddlesoap and the smaller round horsehair brush to work the saddlesoap into a lather all over the bag. I take it one section at a time and then gently wipe each section off with a moist micro-fiber towel. I also use Bartender's Friend powder to shine up the brass with a soft toothbrush. Again wiping off after a couple of minutes. It really brings out the shine of the brass. Then, as you did, I stuff the bag and allow it to dry for a day or two, then apply a light "spritz" of leather conditioner (I use Tuff Stuff, which is what people use on their car leather seats) and buff with into a nice final shine with a horsehair brush, same as you use. It does work wonders on these bags, and they are made so well that they just take to this rejuvenation treatment very well. I wish more people would get training on how to take care of these beautiful bags.

Iv had 7 or 8 leather Coach purses 3 of them I found @ yard sales 1 I bought used from a friend 2 wer bought by my boyfriend those wer new. The problem with a Coach is the older 1s r not designed with enough pockets. I have a small brown & a beautiful black leather purse that had no pockets at all. That's the only thing I don't like about a Coach but I do love the feel & smell of a good leather purse new or old. 🦋
