This was so informative. I really like how she starts with clients -- getting to know how they want to feel in the kitchen, then go from there. Great video!
I love this! That colour combo with the gold handles made the space look classy yet comfortable. Great interview and colour tips! Amazing transformation - well done!
I loved the points she mentioned. I love to see natural wood in most furniture but with kitchen cabinets I feel paint is better. It is great to be able to change your cabinet colors without having to buy all new cabinets. Personally I like slabs for cabinet doors because they are timeless. You can be a bit more “daring” with painted kitchen cabinets.
I really like both a white kitchen and a natural woods one, separately or combination of both. I guess it depends on the style of home, and the natural lighting you are working with. Mountain home, definitely natural woods, farmhouse, definitely white traditional kitchen, IMO. To each their own, it's whatever you feel comfortable with, I guess.
Painting condo Revere Pewter with White Dove trims throughout. Stuck on what color to paint cabinets and fireplace mantle. Floors are hardwood, medium brown with a slightly reddish color. I love neutrals. Love your videos. So informative. Thank you for what you do.
I much prefer a more creamy and/or warm white vs cool whites- it just gives more depth to a room than a cool white. As for actual color- I feel it’s what each individual feels good about when they walk into a room or kitchen- not the trendy stuff but what one feels- if it puts a smile on your face, a hug around your heart and being happy even when you have to clean the surfaces, then that’s the right color for you.
agree! Elsinore was leaning towards the warmer Cloud White and the homeowner was apparently stuck on the cool temperature Decorator white. It turned out pretty okay in this kitchen because of the very light flooring and the window-heavy, modern living room (open plan), but this choice really does not work for most kitchen cabinets in most kitchens. Plus, in this kitchen, the addition of the Navy gave the kitchen a fresh, almost preppy look (like a navy and white striped shirt) which gave the kitchen some classic-style personality.
What a delightful young lady, it would be amazing to work with her on renovating a kitchen. I really do like what she did for this client's kitchen; Hale Navy and Decorator's White works well with the cabinet jewellery. Thanks for sharing.
I get that Benjamin Moore is a super popular paint, but is the paint itself superior to Behr? or is it just personal preference? Where I live, it's easier for me to get to Home Depot than it is to the Benjamin Moore paint store. I liked a lot of her tips, and the fact that she let her client use the white the client picked out. Not many designers would do that.
LOVE these videos! Curious on her take using ye ole White Dove with the HN as I completely relate to the leaning traditional warm vibe. Also, any chance to post the counters and flooring? I'm at the overwhelmed stage : )
Hi Gabriela, you have a lot of options. Obviously, whites and browns are popular choices. I might pull a color from the granite like a charcoal, but if you are going to get into the grey/greiges, I'd recommend looking for warmer colors to keep it cohesive. You could also do top/bottom cabinets in different colors and use the counter as a bridge. Like maybe a darker color on the bottom, lighter on top?
I have baltic brown countertops. I decided to sand and stain with Minwax espresso ebony blend. The cabinets are almost black and they look great with brass cabinet pulls and knobs. Also, it’s easy to touch-up a section should an area need it. My cabinets were builder grade honey color oak before updating the look.
What do you think about white cabinets if floor and trim is still stained wood tone? I feel overwhelmed when I think about my kitchen because then it feels like I have to change everything else in my house too? We have a lovey medium toned stain on everything else.
SW Pure White but if you want an even more pure white, SW High Reflective White. I have both in my house on walls but Pure White would be similar to the Decorator's White.
i found a beautiful color by sherwin williams called still water i would love you to do a color combo with this color i would like to know what purple color could be used for an accent wall with this color
Hi there Janice! For purple, you could have a look at something like a SW Autumn Orchid, or for something a little lighter, have a look at SW Beguiling Mauve.
Where I appreciate the designer's familiarity with a color; "I like xxxx, I've used it before..." that has absolutely no bearing on how that color will look in the client's home. There are too many lighting/exposure variables. Please, designers, stop assuming something works because you've used it somewhere else before. As a client, it can be a very frustrating waste of time. She proved my point in this video. She made suggestions to her client, based on previous jobs. Ultimately her client did her own homework. That sort of defeats the purpose of hiring a designer. Take your paint decks, and your samples into your clients room in question, and THEN make your suggestions.
The failure of this vid is that it does not address how the white cabinet relates to walls and ceilings or how one goes about matching whites. So is the wall the same as the cabinet?
