CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jesse (Ethan Hawke) explains the idea for his next book, and gets flustered when he sees Celine (Julie Delpy) in attendance.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Richard Linklater directs the romantic drama Before Sunset, a sequel to Before Sunrise (1995). Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) were strangers who spent a loquacious night together in Vienna. Nine years later, Jesse has written a book about the encounter. During his accelerated European book tour, he reunites with Celine in Paris. Before Jesse's flight home, he joins Celine for a picturesque walk around Paris peppered with intimate conversation: at first, about the minutiae of their day-to-day lives and their relationships, and then about their lingering feelings for one another. Before Sunset was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Ethan Hawke is an Academy Award nominated actor who has been in over 100 films. But that slight pause when he saw Celine will always be his best work.

I read that the trilogy was inspired by Linklater's time he spent with a woman named Amy Lehrhaupt. Linklater had hoped she would show up at a screening one day, but unbeknownst to him she had died in an accident in 1994. Jesse and Celine's reunion must have been what Linklater had hoped for.

In real life Ethan Hawke is a great writer as well, while he has a natural knack for dialogue (evidenced by many of the brilliant and fascinating verbal exchanges that take place in this movie). The man is quite versatile, this generally superb actor, writer, director, this pretty good athlete, this outstanding and articulate conversationalist, and a real handsome ladies man (and a real good and entertaining dude as well). Much respect and admiration for Ethan Hawke!

Actually the third one is not that good. The big move of Linklater was to create this, second movie. The first one was just a very sweet piece of playful art, but the second movie was elevating the whole concept. The characters became real humans with very deep interactions. The second movie does not exist without the first one, the first one got a huge extra meaning by the second one.
@anujoseph_10
@anujoseph_10 Месяц назад
@@karamcsandwhy do u think the third one ain't good? Because it shows the harsh reality of life and not some cinematic bullcrap?
@karamcsand
@karamcsand Месяц назад
@@anujoseph_10 Because it could not decide what to do. You are right, some parts were about real life - those were great. But at some point the characters started to actively hurt each other, so instead of an interesing dynamic it was just awful. Before Sunset has actually great scenes for comparison: in the car and on the boat the two characters also show some not-so-nice, realistic manner, they lash out a bit. But it works, they are just human, they have a micro character development in this intense day, in this film. In Before Midnight it went far behind. Especially Celine went very far on hurting her husband. Jesse's opening monologue about his actual writing was just lame. For me Before Midnight is about bad writing. It is not all bad. It is just not good. I started to watch it like two actors doing something, not to people living their lives in an interesting way.

@rocketbird1
@rocketbird1 2 года назад
It's a symbol of innocence and purity and youth. The character doesn't have a daughter, he has a son, here he's just making associations of ideas. It's quite bold to put the two things together, but I would say it manages to not be creepy

I've always preferred the sequel over the original, i still love the original of course but the sequel felt more mature because, well, they're 9 years older. It feels nostalgic too, It's like reconnecting with an old friend, the conversations were more interesting here too and i really liked their growth and how can we possibly forget the ending? I love this film with all my heart and I don't think anyone can replicate what linklater did. The chemistry between julie and ethan was incredible
