In all my years as a motor mechanic i tell you guys some of the common issues when it comes to the Toyota HIlux mostly the KUN26R with the 1KDFTV motor. Which is one of the most popular here in Australia.

My 2006 hilux 1KD ftv euro 3, is very reliable it’s done 600,000kms on the original injectors and the oil pickup is as clean as possible no buildup what So ever, I can 100% recommend a pre 2007 euro 3 1KD hilux, it does not have the cracking piston issue like in the later models and the injectors (while a bit knocky on very cold mornings) are fine in my experience.

Oil pickup is simple maintenance and as long as you change seats every 40k its fine, cracked pistons are caused by towing, chips and tunes and poor injectors, changing the scv from the short body to long body will solve that issue

Had mine since 2013, no problems, never herd of anybody doing a diff, only problems with modified ones, agree early injectors were doggy.

I don't know where this guy is getting all the info but my uncle has a 2010 model and still runs like new so.. I don't know about this guy wherever his getting this

Many many years in the industry fixing them is where im getting the information from so in other words first hand experience. Your uncle’s Hilux is only 0.001% out of the thousands that have been produced. Majority are fine yet there’s a lot that are not either.

If i had to pick a top contender for the Hilux it would have to be the Isuzu Dmax they’re pricey now however I dealt with many companies that used them as work utes which got abused. And they just kept running 450,000+km

I don’t need to own one to know issues with them when I’ve fixed hundreds of them over the years all of which with the problems depicted in the video. I’ve seen that many Hilux’s come through the door I’ve lost count, Not saying they’re a bad car just letting the public know the issues that plague them if they’re thinking of purchasing one. However saying that I don’t know what I’m talking about is a very naive comment to make but you do you.

I agree with DaSpedza especially the 3.0. The 2.5 litre seems more reliable.
